A: Standard hard-mesh colanders (even those with small holes) have gaps that allow tiny grains like rice and unsoaked quinoa to slip through. For rice, you can successfully rinse it in this 5-quart colander, but you may lose a few grains. However, for quinoa, the grains are much smaller and will likely fall through the mesh holes. For the best results with these grains, you may want to use a dedicated fine mesh sieve or strainer (where the mesh looks like a tight fabric).

Q: Can this item strain quinoa? Please answer yes or no. I’m not sure if 1/8 in. indicates that it can or it won’t.
submitted by Roni - 2 years ago
A: Hello,
The 1/8 in, is the size of the holes on the Mesh Colander, anything smaller than that may pass through.

Q: How fine is this? Could I use it to rinse rice or quinoa? Thank you.
This is a great everyday kitchen essential. It's sturdy, easy to handle and drains pasta and vegetables really well. I like the practical design because it doesn't feel bulky when stored away. I would recommend to others

I love this!!! Perfect for washing vegetables!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The colander has been useful in my kitchen. I’ve been using this for the past few days, and it has worked really well for washing and cleaning vegetables. It is lightweight and easy to handle, but still feel strong and durable. The handles are comfortable to hold, making it simple to carry while using it. I also like that it is dishwasher safe. So far. I’m happy with it and would recommend it.

Great strainer and perfect size
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This hard mesh colander is great. It’s a nice size and seems to be pretty heavy duty. I love taking a strainer out to the garden with me and doing a little prewash outside to get all of the dirt off of the veggies. The size and durability of this is perfect for that. It’s also super easy to clean and had nice handles. It is dishwasher safe as well which is a bonus!

Large Size Ideal for Family Meal Prep
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I try to do our family meal prep for the week every Sunday and before I had this colander, I would have to do multiple batches. This calendar is 5 quarts and now I can wash 2 pounds of strawberries pretty easily! I also like that it goes in the dishwasher — so important for any busy chef. The rubber handles on the sides keep your hands safe after pouring boiling water into it as you drain pasta in the colander. Overall, I’d say this is a sturdy and practical asset for any kitchen.

Perfect size. Lightweight but sturdy.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I needed a new strainer and have been really pleased with this one. It's lightweight but also sturdy enough for an entire box of bow tie pasta. I like that it's wider than it is deep, makes it easy to store in my kitchen cabinet/drawer. The little "legs" on the bottom keep it high enough off the bottom of the sink that water doesn't pool back up into the strainer.

Wide simple and sleek colander
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This colander is great! It holds so much. It is such a slick design. I love how simple it is. I like holding the handles to be able to toss my food around. I use it frequently when cooking pasta and washing fruit. It’s way better than my plastic colander I was previously using. I also like that it matches my other cuisinart products

Big high-quality strainer
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The stainless steel colander is the perfect size for training everything from first actions to pasta. I love the handles on the side of this. They are comfortable as well as protected from any heat that would be inside and heat up the colander overall, I highly recommend this. It is well-made a really nice quality for the price and you can’t be the Cuisinart name.

Good kitchen tool and easy to use
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I really like this colander for use in the kitchen. It is versatile and great for washing fruit or rinsing pasta. I like that it is metal because my previous colander was plastic so when pouring boiling water in with pasta I didn’t feel great about that. This one being metal is what I prefer. It’s a good size as well.

Stainless steel sturdy colander
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This kitchen tool was perfect! The strainer has lots of little holes so small things (like orzo) won’t slip through the cracks. I tried it with ground turkey that I had browned. The strainer did not get too hot for me to handle. I was able to move it from the sink back to the stove without protecting my hands. I was looking to replace my old plastic, cracked colander and am a super pleased with this one. I’m able to run it through the dishwasher and it nests nicely with other kitchen bowls do less storage space is needed

Large metal colander, everyone needs one
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Most colanders seem to be plastic, a really fine mesh, or not entirely perforated. I love that this is basically a giant mesh bowl. The grippy handles are nice too. This is going to be great for draining pasta or washing fruits and veggies- or whatever else you'd use a colander for I guess. I'm happy with it so far.

Nice sized colander with fine mesh
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The mesh portion on this colander has very fine mesh which will be perfect for decreasing smaller food items getting through. It is a very sturdy construction with nice grip handles. It is dishwasher, safe, however, they do recommend handwashing to make it last longer. As it is a large colander, it will take up plenty of room in the dishwasher. It states it is a 5 quart colander and in my photo I have four ponds of strawberries.

Should not be this difficult
Same as someone else said, a huge bit of glue was stuck to the bottom. Took a long time to get it off. Didn’t want to have to drive all the way back to return it. Extremely frustrating.

inappropriate packaging
Product packaging was paper stuck with a glob of glue at the bottom of the collander that was extremely difficult to get out and completely inappropriate for a colander that may be used with hot foods
