A: The Cuisinart Espresso Bar Collection Grind & Brew (EM-640), this machine does not have a PID controller in its features. It focuses on 20 bars of pressure, a conical burr grinder, and a 54mm portafilter rather than advanced, user-adjustable temperature PID stability.
The Cuisinart Espresso Bar Grind Brew Espresso Machine impresses with its built-in grinder, allowing guests to enjoy fresh, aromatic espresso at home. Its sleek design and user-friendly features make it a great addition to any kitchen. While some guests noted minor issues with the frother and size, the overall performance, including the ability to brew both hot and cold espresso, has garnered positive feedback. This machine is perfect for coffee enthusiasts looking to elevate their home brewing experience.

Water storage keeps leaking
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The water keeps leaking over and over again even after reinstalling

We're sorry to hear your Espresso Bar™ Grind & Brew Espresso Machine continues to leak even after reinstallation. To help resolve the issue, please ensure the water tank is fully seated, all parts are clean and properly positioned, and that the tank is not filled beyond the maximum fill line, as this can sometimes cause leaking. If the issue persists, please contact our Consumer Assistance Center at 1-800-726-0190 and reference Ticket #8901092948 so we can further troubleshoot and document your experience. Don’t buy this machine
The water reservoir leaked all of it’s water out when filled, took about two minutes to empty.

We're sorry to hear about your experience with the Espresso Bar™ Grind & Brew Espresso Machine. If the water reservoir is leaking immediately after being filled, we recommend ensuring the reservoir is fully seated in place and checking for any visible cracks, damage, or obstructions around the connection points. Since a reservoir should not empty on its own under normal operation, please contact our Consumer Assistance Center at 1-800-726-0190 and reference Ticket #8901044059 so we can provide additional troubleshooting assistance. Thank you for sharing your experience with us—your feedback helps us identify opportunities to improve product quality and enhance future consumer experiences.

Side handle
The big handle on the left side does not do anything it moves freely but seem to have no function
1 reply from Cuisinart team - 2 months ago
Thank you for sharing your feedback. The large handle on the left side of your machine is the assisted tamping lever. Its function is to press and compact the loose coffee grounds inside your portafilter into a flat, even "puck" before you brew, ensuring consistent water flow and preventing channeling. Your comments help us improve future models and enhance the overall consumer experience.

Do no purchase
This is the worst espresso machine you can ever purchase. The only thing that this machine has on the positive side is the looks. Besides that, every single element from the heating unit to the specific dose amount is awful. The machine broke down a few times and final blew up (literally a loud bang) with less than 5 months of usage. Please do not purchase this machine.

Disappointed in purchase
We decided to upgrade from Gevi to this. The coffee foam is lacking and the milk frother is inconsistent.

Yummy AT HOME Espresso!
Okay, so after having this machine for a couple of weeks I’m going to make a Pro / Con list so that my thoughts on the Cuisinart Espresso Bar Grind & Brew Espresso Machine are clear and concise! Pros: -BEAUTIFUL aesthetic machine -Able to grind fresh whole beans, with bean storage at top -Espresso comes out smooth and tasty -Holds A LOT of water in the reservoir -Has a warming plate at the top to keep your cup warm before brewing -Easy to brew/follow instructions -Easy setup and maintenance -Auto shut-off after not being used for 30 minutes -Pieces have their own storage tray within the drip tray which is convenient -Fits nicely on my coffee bar next to my Keurig and coffee accessories -There is a COLD button for ICED DRINKS that actually dispenses your brew at room temperature, it’s amazing Cons: -Reservoir kept leaking into drip tray until I brewed the first cup of espresso (no leak so far after that but I am keeping watch) -Machine is noticeably on (not necessarily loud but you can hear something going on) when heating up and brewing -Using the steaming/hot water wand takes a bit getting used to especially if you have never used one -If you have small children like me, KEEP THIS MACHINE AWAY AT ALL TIMES! It is big, hot, and scary for little ones I don’t even want to imagine if they got a hold of it

Delicious Espresso at home!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is another absolute hit by Cuisinart. This espresso bar and machine is not only easy to use, it makes just about any drink you can imagine. The instruction manual actually has delicious recipes to try, heads up. I love how easy it is to use and there really is nothing better than fresh grind coffee. I personally made myself an iced beverage and my husband made himself a cappuccino. Both were delicious and so much cheaper than going to a coffee shop. I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking for an espresso machine, this is an all in one and it is fairly compact. Another win by Cuisinart!

Great Espresso Bar, BUT...
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Cuisinart Espresso machine is good, but not perfect. Let's start with the positives: delivers a consistent great grind for espresso from the whole bean holder, large water reservoir for multiple brews, solid construction with high-quality materials, and produces excellent foam and steamed water from the frother. However, there are a few drawbacks: frother tends to splash a lot, and the machine has a sizable footprint, taking up more space than many new competitors Pros: Great espresso grind Large water reservoir Solid construction Excellent foam and steamed water Cons: Frother splashes a lot Large footprint compared to new competitors

Turns my home into a cafe!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a great semi automatic espresso machine for people who enjoy making espresso-based drinks at home. The size of the coffee machine is bigger than your usual drip coffee or k-cup machines but it's for good reason. It comes with built in grinder with 16 grinding levels, esspresoo extraction area with stainless steel bottomless portafilter, and a frothing wand for steaming milk or hot water. This is my first time trying an espresso machine with bottomless portafilter so it took a bit to get used to, but the results have been pretty impressive so far. The espresso shots are consistently well extracted. And the steam from the frothing wand is strong and heats up the milk quickly and evenly. One of my favorite features would be the front loaded water reservoir, I love that I can just refill water from the top instead of taking the whole reservoir out. The machine also comes with all the tools you would need, I find the dosing guide and the tamping puck particularly useful.

My favorite thing in my house!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This espresso machine is the main character in my kitchen now! From the built in grinder that you can customize for single or double shots, or the cold brew setting where you can get your shot of espresso COLD, this machine does the most and does it WELL. It’s sleek, easy to use, and makes the most delicious coffee house style coffees without me having to leave my house. The crema is perfection, the steam wand is powerful for frothing, and the aroma when it’s brewing fills my house with pure joy! If you’re an espresso lover who’s serious about their morning (or mid afternoon) coffee, this machine is it. A total upgrade!

An espresso lovers dream
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Such a high quality espresso machine. Set up was a breeze. Large water reservoir and nothing tastes better than freshly ground espresso every morning. The grinder can hold up to a full cup ( 8 oz) of whole beans. We've used both pre ground espresso but have mostly been a fan of grinding our own as nothing compares the the flavor and aroma in my opinion. The milk steamer is the best. Perfectly hot and frothy milk. We've made cappuccinos, latte's, and my daughter has been using the hot water feature for her Matcha's in the morning. Convenient storage under the drip tray for accessories and the machine itself is very aesthetically pleasing. Cannot say enough great things about this machine. It has become our family meeting spot in the mornings and something we all look forward to using. Fantastic quality and I highly recommend.

Great coffee, but takes effort
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I followed the directions carefully. I was a bit overwhelmed at first. There is definitely a learning curve. The coffee was very hot and delicious. You really taste the flavor. I thoroughly enjoyed my cup but it was a lengthy process. I think the more I use it the easier it will be. It is definitely a great machine.

Sadly disappointed
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was so excited to receive this espresso machine, but sadly, it didn't live up to the expectation. I have followed every instruction, read, and reread the manual. The grinding works great. The hot water is definitely HOT! The frother worked great. The major issue is that the pressure builds up in the portafilter, but nothing comes out! The pressure ends up releasing scortching water into the drip tray. I've tried numerous ways and all 16 grind settings. The only time I got a better result was when I used the double shot filter for a single shot service. But even then, it splatted everywhere and hardly made it into the cup. Overall, I think if the filter was a bit different, maybe it would work better.

Amazing quality and user friendly!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Overall, I really enjoyed the espresso grind and brew machine. As a coffee drinker who weighs and grinds their own beans, I was a bit hesitant about accuracy, but it comes out perfect every time. The option for a double or single shot is also so great, and I personally enjoy the option to do a cold espresso shot! This was perfect for my iced lattes, or my favorite every day drink of protein shake with a double shot of espresso. This is so easy to clean and maintain, and the directions are very straight forward which I appreciate.

Dedicated Espresso Bar
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Whoever designed the Cuisinart Espresso Bar must have had home baristas in mind because this machine has just about everything you need to make a great cup of espresso at home. It heats up fast within 30s. The conical burr grinder is quiet with 16 grind settings ranging from coarse to fine. The 75oz water reservoir can be removed or refilled from the top for convenience. The machine also comes with a dual sided leveler, a spring loaded tamping puck, a dosing guide, 54mm bottomless portafilter with single & double shot espresso filters—a pretty complete setup. The accessory storage tray is tucked behind the drip tray, that helps keep things organized. The brew volume is pre-set for a 4oz extraction, but you can adjust it to your preference. Cons: Water drips after extraction stops, and the steam function is slow to heat and warm milk. It has a cold extraction feature but I haven’t used it. It’s also bulky and heavy, so plan for space. Aesthetic: 3/5. Performance: 4.5/5.

Amazing espresso machine!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I absolutely love the Cuisinart Espresso Bar Grind & Brew Espresso Machine! I am so impressed by the ease and quality of the espresso it makes. It came with a stainless steel milk jug, single shot espresso filter, double shot espresso filter, tamping puck, dosing guide and cleaning brush. It also had a little recipe book with a wide variety of espresso drinks. The machine itself looks beautiful! Definitely something that I can have out on the counter. The stainless steel areas do show fingerprints though, so I do a quick wipe down after I use it. As I mentioned, it's very easy and convenient to use. I don't need any other equipment. It grinds the beans, helps with tamping down the grounds and pulls a perfect single or double espresso shot. There's a cold setting if you're making iced drinks. For the hot drinks, you can use the milk frothing wand. I would wholeheartedly recommend this espresso machine. It makes my life so much easier!
