Q: What is the top of the desk made out of? Is it wood or wood veneer? The description says metal construction but is that just the base or the whole desk?
A: It’s particle board. Not durable at all.
submitted byKc - 3 years agoA: Be VERY careful about putting anything wet on the surface. It was start to buckle. I put a damp glass on the surface and it left a raised ring on the surface.
submitted bydonnapierpont - 5 years agoA: The veneer top is durable as long as you take care of it appropriately. It wipes up easily and I make sure to keep it dry, as it is a veneer. Overall I love this desk!

Q: Does this desk have a chemical smell? Or does it arrive with little or no smell?
A: I purchased one last week and it has a very stong chemical smell to it. After a week no improvement. I will return it for sure. Smells awful!!

Q: How much assembly is required? How much skill is needed?
A: It's very easy to assemble. You attach the metal legs and stand part to the already assembled desk/drawer area. Probably took me less than 10 minutes to fully assemble.
submitted bymillermom - 7 years agoA: Very little skill necessary. The entire top/wood part comes already assembled, all you have to do is attach the legs with the screws included. You can do this manually with a screwdriver, but I used a power drill and it was much faster!

submitted byMark - 4 years agoTarget staff supportA: The desk body itself is pre-built, even the drawers. You only need to assemble the metal frame and place the desk on top. Took us 15 minutes start to finish and that includes cleaning up the packing materials. We used a drill instead of the allen key.

Q: Can you hide the attached cord when it isn't being used? It doesn't show up in any of the photos.
A: Hi Cheryl – Thanks for viewing our home office furniture! This writing desk has 2 outlets and 2 USP ports in a cubby along the back of the desk. This will allow you to plug in an electric cord or use the port for charging your phone or laptop. Once you plug in your cord, you won’t be able to hide it. Thanks for dropping by. – Anita
submitted byAnita - 4 years agoTarget staff supportA: No. Once you place the receptacle end of the extension into the desk the plug end hangs out the bottom. There is no way to store it or put it back into the extension cubby.
