Q: How many ounces is this bottle ??? Why isn't it stated in the product details ?
submitted by Anne - 9 years ago
A: Dr Bronners sells a variety of sizes, mostly in multiples of 2 ounces, from a few ounce travel size to gallons (hard to find these days.) The size is always posted on the product in the label (in the above ad, enlarge the photo and look above the "fair trade" logo.) The website should make clear which size product you are looking at (as this one does in the title) and the prices are pretty standard, with double the quantity usually being just less than double the price (excluding occasional sales by the merchant.) I like to buy one two ounce bottle to keep by the sink, and then buy the biggest size I can and just refill it as needed. The cap will become clogged with gooey "dry bronners", especially if you leave the top up, but this can be swiped out with your finger. Don't worry - its clean gunk!

Q: Can this be used as bubble bath?
submitted by Bt - 10 months ago
A: Hi, thank you for reaching out to us!
While our Pure-Castile Liquid Soap can and will lather very well, please keep in mind that we would consider it to be low-foaming as it does not contain any synthetic foaming. Instead, we rely on the potassium cocoate, palmate, and olivate that are naturally created during the saponification (soap-making) process. All three of which have excellent cleansing properties but do not foam as readily as synthetic foaming detergents do.
It’s important to note that foam isn’t necessary for cleaning surfaces and is not essential to an effective soap or cleaner, though many consumers have been conditioned to expect it. Having a low-foaming cleaning product means that we’ve formulated an effective soap that contains no synthetic foaming detergents.
So, while you can certainly use this product for a bubble bath, please keep in mind that it may not bubble up as much as conventional bubble bath products.
For more information on this subject, we encourage you to check out Lisa Bronner's blog, Going Green with Lisa Bronner. Most notably her post The Science of Lather: Exploring the Fun and Function of Suds (https://www.lisabronner.com/the-science-of-lather-exploring-the-fun-and-function-of-suds/).

Q: Does this come with a pump to dispense the soap?
submitted by LAD - 10 months ago
A: Hi, thank you for contacting Dr. Bronner's!
Due to our Pure-Castile Liquid Soaps being very concentrated, they do not work well in pump dispensers. We have tested a variety of pumps and dilutions over the years with little success. Inevitably, the pumps always clog. Instead, we would recommend keeping the soap in its original bottle and using just a drop or two for each handwashing or whatever use you desire.
While our Pure-Castile Liquid Soap does not work well with pump dispensers, they do work great in foaming dispensers.
Foaming dispensers “thicken” the soap with water and air. If you decide to use a foaming dispenser, make sure to dilute the soap at a ratio of 1 part soap to 3 parts water. This dilution doesn’t create the issues with clogging that undiluted soap would.
Suggested ratio example:
8 oz. bottle = 2 oz. soap and 6 oz. water
12 oz. bottle = 3 oz. soap and 9 oz. water
Just keep in mind that diluting our soap with water does reduce its shelf life as we do not add any harsh preservatives to our products. Generally, diluting with tap or filtered water results in a shelf life of about 2 weeks to a month, while dilutions with distilled water can last up to 6 months. Using distilled water can also reduce natural soap separation that may occur with hard water.
If you prefer not to dilute your soap, we recommend trying our Organic Sugar Soaps. They do not encounter the same pump issues and even come with a pump dispenser. However, they are specifically formulated for bodily use and may not have the versatility that our Pure-Castile soaps do.
Should you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to let us know.

Q: Is this suitable for children?
submitted by Romany - 2 years ago
A: Hi,
Thank you for contacting Dr. Bronner's! We greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns with us as we take the health and safety of our customers very seriously.
Our products have been tested and deemed safe in toxicological assessments, below the safety limits suggested by the governing authorities. However, please note that all fragrance oils are composed of constituents that may cause skin irritation for some, particularly in sensitive areas.
With that in mind, rest assured that our Baby Unscented Pure-Castile Liquid Soap, or any of our milder scents such as Almond or Lavender, are great for young children and kids! When taking a bath, add a capful of soap into the bath water and let them soak.
When bathing babies, we recommend using our Baby Unscented Pure-Castile Liquid Soap as it contains no essential oils and almost double the olive oil, making it perfect for washing your child's face, body, and hair. Just add a few drops (2 – 3) to a damp washcloth to easily maintain control of the soap as no true soap is tear-free, so it's important to keep soap out of the eyes. The “tear-free" characteristic can only be achieved with synthetic non-soap detergents and is not something we're able to do given the all-natural formulation of our soaps. To read more about bathing babies with our Pure-Castile Soap, head over to Lisa Bronner's blog post, Using Castile Baby Mild Soap on Babies.
We do not recommend our Peppermint Pure-Castile Soaps for children under 3 years old as the cooling tingle from the peppermint essential oil is quite strong. Additionally, Eucalyptus Pure-Castile Soaps are only recommended for adults as the eucalyptus essential oil may cause irritation for babies and children.
If you have any health concerns, we always recommend that you consult with your child’s dermatologist or physician to be on the safe side, as they can help determine the products that may be more suitable for their body.
Should you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

Q: What should this be diluted with?
submitted by Cupshe - 2 years ago
A: Hi, thank you for reaching out to Dr. Bronner's!
While you can dilute our Pure-Castile Liquid soap, rest assured that this is not necessary for all uses and mostly comes down to preference. For example, some may prefer just pouring a few drops into their hands for handwashing, and others may prefer to dilute our soap at a 1:3 ratio in a foaming pump. It's truly up to you and your needs.
However, there are a couple of things to keep in mind when first getting started with our Pure-Castile Soap. Firstly, our soap is 2 - 3 times more concentrated than most soaps on the market; therefore, less is definitely more.
Additionally, diluting our soap with water does reduce its shelf life because we do not add any harsh preservatives to our products. Generally, diluting with tap or filtered water results in a shelf life of about 2 weeks to a month, while dilutions with distilled water can last up to 6 months. Using distilled water can also reduce natural soap separation that may occur with hard water.
Please keep in mind that we encourage cleaning your containers out thoroughly before refilling them with diluted soap to promote freshness from batch to batch.
Lastly, it's important to note that our Liquid Soap does not work well with pump dispensers. We have tested a variety of pumps and dilutions over the years with little success. Inevitably, the very concentrated soap clogs the pump. We recommend keeping the soap in its original bottle and using just a drop or two for each handwashing.
On the other hand, our Liquid Soap does works very well in foaming dispensers. Foaming dispensers “thicken” the soap with water and air producing a velvety cloud of soap. If you decide to use a foaming dispenser, make sure to dilute the soap at a ratio of 1 part soap to 3 parts water. Here are some suggested ratio examples:
8 oz. bottle = 2 oz. soap and 6 oz. water
12 oz. bottle = 3 oz. soap and 9 oz. water
For an extensive guide on recipes and applications for our products, we highly recommend checking out Lisa Bronner's blog, Going Green with Lisa Bronner, where she provides incredibly handy dilution cheat sheets. https://www.lisabronner.com/dilutions-cheat-sheet-for-dr-bronners-castile-soap/
We truly hope you enjoy your journey with Dr. Bronner's products! Should you have any further questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out!

Q: is there any shelf life/expiry for these soaps ?
submitted by Kn - 3 years ago
A: Hey,
Great question! The length of time varies, depending on the type of product, how it is used, and how it is stored. Expiration dates and shelf life will be listed on most products. Look for the "open jar" symbol. After opened, you should use a product as directed or within one year. Always throw the product away if it seems discolored, develops a strange odor, or the consistency changes. Q: Can I use this as a spider repellent?
submitted by Jeff B - 4 years ago
A: Our Castile Soaps can also be helpful if you are interested in making your own outdoor insecticidal Spray.
Items you will need are:
A spray bottle
1 Tbsp. (15mL) Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap
1 quart (1 L) water
Combine the soap and water in a spray bottle. Spray plants thoroughly. Be sure to spray stems, and under the leaves where bugs hide. Spray early in the morning or evening so that the heat of the day does not evaporate the spray immediately and is effective longer. You may need to spray plants daily for a while to thwart an intense infestation.
Although we believe that a soap spray will not harm beneficial insects like bees and ladybugs, you can be sure not to bother any by giving the plant a quick shake before spraying.
Rinse your produce after harvesting. You can even add a drop or two more Castile soap, which also makes a great produce wash. Happy plantings!

Q: Why is there a Bible study written on the bottle?
submitted by Scott - 4 years ago
A: In the 1950s, Dr. Bronner lectured primarily in Pershing Square in Los Angeles, a hotbed of activism of all stripes. He saw the need for the world to unite before it destroyed itself, and to this end he exhorted all people to unite as one and to respect each other and the environment. He also encouraged all religions to recognize their universal similarities, inspired by the same divine source. Dr. Bronner saw planetariums as the “All-One!” temples of the future, where humans would see themselves within the celestial majesty of Creation and realize how vanishingly trivial their differences were here on Spaceship Earth.
On the side, he gave away and sold his Peppermint Pure-Castile Soap and offered lectures about his mission statement to anyone that would listen to him. He soon realized that many people were taking the soap and leaving without listening to him speak. In response, Dr. Bronner began to print his philosophy in dense, tiny script on the label of each soap bottle. He also included scriptures and poetry.
His unique style of expression was part prose, part poetry with no superfluous words. It is direct and strident, with copious repetitions of the phrase which summarizes his whole message: “All-One!”

Q: Can this product be used for vaginal cleaning?
submitted by GMA 7 - 6 years ago
A: Our Castile Soap works as a great body wash, and some also use this soap to wash around their feminine or masculine areas. Please keep in mind that this soap was not specifically made for these delicate areas, however we get positive feedback that it works just fine. As we are all different and some may be more sensitive down there than others, we recommend that you do a spot test first. For sensitive skin and sensitive areas of the body, we suggest our Baby Unscented Castile Soap. The Peppermint soap may be a bit strong for the area, as it will really tingle from the Peppermint Oil. If you are still unsure, consult with your preferred medical professional to determine which product is right for you.
This product has garnered a loyal following for its refreshing peppermint scent and effective cleansing properties. Guests appreciate its versatility, using it for everything from body wash to household cleaning. Many have noted its gentle formula that leaves skin feeling clean without drying it out. However, some guests have experienced issues with ingredient changes and allergic reactions. Overall, it remains a beloved choice for those seeking natural and effective soap options.

One and done
We have been using this soap for years. Nothing feels as clean. I have even diluted it to clean our bathroom. If you add a little of their tea tree soap, you can disinfect and clean and everything smells fantastic. We started using it years ago, because my son had eczema, and this was the only thing that did not irritate his skin. I would give it more than five stars if that was available. The Sal Suds also does an exceptional job on our laundry. The website is a fantastic resource for those who want to move away from commercial products that use all kinds of chemicals but irritate the skin and don't completely wash away. I love to buy the gallon jug, because it is so economical. Thank you for continuing to produce such a quality and safe product.

Allergic to hemp seed oil
Even after following directions I experienced skin darkening when using as a body soap, I also broke out in rashes had throat tightening and itching. I just bought it and used it without checking the ingredients thinking it was the formula I always loved as a child. That was my fault I shouldn’t have assumed it was the exact same! The bottle I have in my keepsake closet from 1974 did not have hemp seed oil in the ingredients. I’m allergic to CBD, Hemp, their derivatives, and any plant they are based from (including Mary Jane). I have severe allergic reactions to them inclusive of what I described above in the prior paragraph. Yes I know most of the world isn’t allergic like I am…i have to use free and clear dish and wash detergents so I don’t break out and those things don’t even have cbd or hemp oil in them, let that sink in

This is a favorite of mine for over a decade now since I saw a YouTube for face skin care. The peppermint essential oil is a great part of this product as it adds natural pain relief for all over body health. Smells great too. Who doesn't like smelling like a container of mints.

Unhappy with the scent of the peppermint!
I have been using Dr. Bonner soap for over 17 years now and I love the product. However, this last purchase where I purchased a gallon size peppermint scented soap the soap when it arrived was not the familiar sent. I’m accustomed to the fresh aroma of peppermint. . I was just wondering if the product our ingredients have changed. Very disappointing, especially that I have purchased a whole gallon size of the product and it does not have the same fresh aroma as previous.

Amazing shampoo and dissolves simethicone.
My son has been Using Dr Bronner's products for years, and loves them. I was finally convinced to try when I needed a product that removed simethicone, which is generally impossible to remove except with micellar water. Searching led me to Castile soap. And it works wonderfully. Then I finally decided to use it for my hair. And I have the most amazing shampoo I have had in years. My hair is silky, shiny, scalp is so clean. I rinsed with cider vinegar water, and I was amazed. I will definitely try Dr Bonner's rinse in the future. But as a clean product that can remove simethicone and as a shampoo, Dr Bronner's Castile soap is amazing. I used the unscented baby, as I do not tolerate scents very well. Very pleased. Thank you.

Thank you
I really appreciate that my order was delivered and my shopper did a great job. I know the delays were not the shopper’s fault. The only frustrating part was that my same-day delivery window was pushed back three times before finally arriving. I understand things happen, but the delay seemed more related to the delivery process through Shipt rather than the shopper. Thank you to my shopper for completing the order and being helpful despite the delays.
