This is one of my go to's. I don't follow the box directions. I use applesauce in place of oil, milk in place of water, and add an extra egg and get my eggs to room temperature before adding into the bowl and only add one egg at a time and by adding an extra egg, it rises more and stays risen instead of dipping down. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the regular box recipe, but I find ways to make it healthier. Sometimes I take this box mix and only add a small can of pumpkin, pumpkin pie spices and that is it.. Bake it as normal and it is the most moist cake ever. Duncan Hines is a favorite. Today I am making a caramel apple swirl spice cake with the box of spice cake. Most times with the cake mix, it is fun to just make the mix as is and drizzle with caramel and top with whipped cream. Sooooo good. A Devils food cake is my husband's favorite.

I bake a lot of cakes from scratch and sometimes I feel like cheating when it's for a simple occasion like weekly church Wednesday dinners and Duncan Hines is always a hit, especially the devil's food and red velvet. I get RAVES over it. Now, for all you complainers out there giving Duncan Hines poor reviews. I have Tips for you. #1 NEVER USE COLD EGGS. All ingredients should be room temperature BEFORE starting. #2. Use an extra egg than the recipe calls for (you'll thank me later) #3. Don't cook until the toothpick is clean. You really do need it a tiny bit undercooked. Not runny, but not a clean toothpick either I promise these few adjustments will change the entire outcome. I also use 3 tbsp batter in each cupcake to make them proportional so all cupcakes are cooked evenly. Thanks Duncan for always being a hit for this baker.

Why did you think that less product for the same price was the way to go? We get it, stuff is more expensive. We’re paying more too. But I just opened a box of this mix and it was half empty. I wasn’t planning on half a cake, but it barely covered the bottoms of my 8” pans. Please raise the price if you have to in order to have enough mix in the box to make a real cake. There’s no way the batter I just mixed would come close to making 24 cupcakes, even if I made sad small ones. For the people complaining about dry cake, please don’t bake it for the time on the box. They don’t seem to have adjusted that for the amount they’re selling now. I’m baking my 8” rounds for 18 minutes. If I did the 24 minutes on the box, it would taste like cracker crumbs.

I have been making S'Mores cake from the Devil's Food Cake mix for years and it is alway a hit! I also embellish the box recipe quite a bit, too. I don't use water, only milk. I don't use oil, only butter. I also toss in a box of chocolate pudding, vanilla, and powdered sugar. There are a few other tricks, but I'm not giving away all my secrets! I bake the cake and while it's still semi-warm, I frost it with chocolate frosting (also doctored up), graham crackers, chocolate chips, and top it all off with marshmallows. I stick both cakes (I make 2 round cakes for a double layer) under the broiler and let the marshmallows brown. This is a whole different level of decadence. I've made this for holiday parties, birthday parties, and just to make something special for fun. No one has ever told me "no" to a slice of this cake!

I have no idea what happened to the old Duncan Hines Devils food Cake mix but it’s clearly not the same cake !!!!!! It turned out to be maybe an inch tall if that when it was bake !!!!! I put all the right ingredients and followed the boxes directions perfect . It was also dry as ever, it shouldn’t even say moist on the front of the box !!!! I will definitely be making cakes from scratch and this is the last time I’m ever purchasing a Duncan Hines cake !!!!!

This cake mix used to be sooo moist! Made one yesterday and iced it for today. When I cut it, it was terribly dry! Been researching on the internet and apparently, this is a common issue now with DH cake mixes. That’s all I used to use because my grandson has a milk intolerance and DH mixes are milk free.

The last few times I’ve made this cake it hasn’t tasted the same. This is the only cake I ever make and always gotten great feedback about how moist it is. Not anymore. I want to just throw it out once I take a bite.

I am a 67 year old formerly Duncan Hines brand loyalist. The quality has been declining over the last several years, but it has now hit rock bottom. I made cupcakes last week (19 instead of the former 24), and even the kids didn’t want more than one. The flavor was terrible, and the texture was a weird clumpy mess. They went into the trash, and I will now be baking my cakes from scratch

Bought this cake mix recently for my son's birthday. Usually Duncan Hines is great. It was the white cake mix. It turned out weird and crumbly. I rechecked the ingredients and knew I baked it for the shortest amount of time. I took my fork this morning to go through it and it was just crumbles. Over half of the cake went in the garbage! What a sad birthday disappointment. No more Duncan Hines for me!!!!!
