Q: Can this be used on a glass top range? Thank you :)

submitted by dawnella - 8 months ago
  • A: Hi Dawnella – Thanks for reaching about our Hearth & Hand™ with Magnolia Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven. The item will function perfectly fine on a glass cooktop. However, you’ll need to be careful not to damage your glass cooktop. Cast iron is heavier than other types of cookware so you will need to keep that in mind when setting the item down on the glass. These items are enameled so there is less risk of scratching your glass cooktop like there would be with traditional uncoated rough cast iron, but glass is more susceptible to scratching in general so keep that in mind too. Have an awesome day! – Nate

Exceeding expectations - great little coquettes!

I purchased these 4 half quart coquettes in cream white a year ago. Guests and food blog audiences rave and ask about them after individual serving table presentation and pictures in my posts. They keep French onion soups and pot pies hot. Beautiful browning on food! The neutral color is very attractive with culinary creations and most dinnerware settings. Mine are still in excellent shape, no chips, but I've had a collection of enameled cast iron from many brands for many years - so I don't temperatura shock them (cold to hot too fast and vice versa) or bang metal utensils on them etc. The color has endured as 'sour cream' white with hand washing using dish soap and hot water and a nylon dish brush. 'Sour cream' is a good description for the color. The accents are black and stainless, so they're modern AND farmhouse aesthetic in one. I luv popping the lid on and saving leftovers in the refrigerator with these. I can't wait to do a chilled dish like homestyke sundaes, rice puddings or chilled berries. I guess my expectations were lowered by negative reviews? I'm really impressed with these so far. Half quart, 16 ounce cast iron coquettes at this price point are unheard of. It's an excellent size - neither too small nor too large for individual servings and/or smaller side dishes. Tremendous value and so adorably convenient! I almost deducted 1 star only because they stick slightly more - when unoilied above 425°F, than some other enameled cast iron (that cost a fortune). No worries - I added the star back because they clean up easily with a non scratch sponge - it just takes a brief hot water soak for a pesky baked on protein as all brands usually do. Are you still reading this? Yikes, let's go eat, lol! I'm thinking baked shells and cheese with panko crumb and parmesan crust spiked with roasted red pepper... Or, Mexican street corn tomalito.. Who's with me?! I was thinking I should buy an extra 2 while they're still available - which brought me to this review that you're still reading!? Gracious thanks!

the ceramic coating chips way too easily on all the products from this line. I bought quite a few. some arrive chipped , others chip on first or second usage. very much a case of 'you get what you pay for". Joanna Gaines is no LeCruesat

After reading the reviews first, I thought I would give it a chance. My mistake. I received it with a few chips it already and at that point I should have returned it. But NOPE. After using it a couple of times, I happen to notice the chips are getting bigger and new ones are appearing. And once the chipping happens, you really shouldn't use. It also scratches really easy. Overall, not great for cooking. But pretty to look at.

Wanted to love it but after the first use there are black spots on the lid and outside that won’t wipe off. If I would have known that I would have gotten a different color! I would only recommend it if you’re not wanting it to sit pretty on your oven between uses! Cooking my sourdough in it works!

LOVE magnolia hearth & hand. Would buy each and every single item from them if I could, except for this dutch oven. Should have known what to expect, for the price that it is and to be quite frank, we know they are not equivalent to Le Creuset, Staub, you get the idea. Made homemade meatballs and marinara sauce with my dutch oven and it was just a circus, uneven temperature all over, meatballs splotchy everywhere, so cooking them accordingly was an issue, and talk about how much of it got stuck on the bottom of the pan as well- not talking about the delicious frond that food leaves, but literal sides of my meatballs ripped AND burnt off. Yes, I used appropriate oil levels to ensure non-stickness, so yep, that's my honest review. Don't get me wrong, I will still happily give all my money to Hearth & Hand decor/kitchen tool products (spoons, coasters, containers, aprons, kitchen linen and whatnot), but NOT for their cookware. IF you want to, buy it for aesthetic purporses, and I'm an aesthetic kind of gal too. Lesson learned

Good size and weight for the price. Cleans so easy and I’m finding myself searching for recipes to make in it. I have kept it out on the stove and have done simmer mixes for hours; it’s pretty just sitting there. The cast iron does take a while to heat, but holds temp well. Keep the little bumper tabs for storing with the lid upside down, no sliding lid when you pull out from the cabinet. My mom was so impressed with it, I sent one to her in GA.

After using it for more than six months now, it works as it should. If you bang any heavy metal utensel on it, the enamel could chip, and in turn, there might be some rust.

Why place a difficult to remove sticker on the bottom of cast iron? Also chips easily. Everything sticks. Not like the classic cast iron pots. Was hoping these would work but didn’t. Missed return window. Will probably donate them.

Don’t buy! When I bought it and brought it home I didn’t notice it had a chip. I was disappointed but decided to keep it anyone. Over the past two months the chips have increased around the rim and handles. Not worth it!
