A classic takes about 2 minutes per layer to dry, the Gel Couture takes about 5 minutes per layer to dry. Once you have your layers on, it takes about 15 minutes to dry, but you always want to refrain from busy nails for the first hour or so after your mani.

A: Hi Amanda! Don't use a UV lamp with the Gel Couture nail colors and Top Coat This formula is made for easy home use. No base coat is used. Apply 2 coats of color to bare nails, finish with the top coat and let your nails dry like a normal nail enamel. Remove with your regular polish remover.

A: Hi there AMM! The Gel Couture colors were made to go over a bare nail bed, with not base coat. While base coats help classic nail enamels adhere to the nail bed, we don't think the Gel Couture will work well over a base coat.

It’s sheer but buildable, so if you want that clean, natural look, one coat is perfect — but two or three gives you a really pretty, almost jelly-like finish. It dries pretty fast and the brush makes it easy to apply (even for someone like me who usually makes a mess 😅). I used the Essie Gel Couture top coat with it and it lasted about a week before I saw any chips — which is pretty good for me since I’m constantly washing dishes or chasing kids around. Only thing is, it’s not super opaque, so if you’re looking for a bold color, this isn’t it. But if you love that clean, classy “your nails but better” look — it’s a winner.

You’ll need at least 3 coats to get it to show up properly. The semi small size makes it easy to fit the bottle in a bag for on-the-go touch-ups, and the color is versatile enough for everyday wear if you're going for a super natural look. But if you want bold or vibrant? This ain't it.

I wear my nails natural, and this is the brand I mostly use, due to its longevity, and they usually last three or five days, depending on the shade of nail polish. I constantly get compliments from this nail polish and I love it gel like affect.

Essie always does an amazing job with application, making it very easy to apply with its wide brush. Dry time is very minimal and durability, with it being gel, was longer than 3 weeks for me (I work with my hands all day).
