Not for the non-religious peeps

I wish I would have known how rooted this book was in religion. There are at least 20 mentions of god and church in just in the first chapter. Chapter 2 is all about the Bible and god what he intends for us. I tried to just read the message, but as a non religious person, chapter 2 made it clear I was wrong about this entire book’s message. Will not be keeping this purchase.

Misleading, lacking practical tips

Nothing on the back cover suggested this is a Christian/religious book. I found the practical guidance for finding new friends lacking - the author is clearly gregarious with a wide friend group based in her religious communities and there weren’t many helpful tips for someone that doesn’t have that type of background.

Love Jennie Allen!!!

Loved everything about the entire book! And I saw her speak at a church service once and she was phenomenal! I can’t wait to read her other book. And I’ve been listening to her podcast!

Some gems but should be labeled a Christian book

Currently reading this book and there are some gems in here as far as building relationship. I grew up going to church although I’m faithful, I’m not religious. I wasn’t expecting sermons, so if you’re not religious or if you’re an atheist I wouldn’t read this book as it’s heavy with scripture.

Misleading

When i saw this book in the wellness section i wasnt prepared for all the biblical scriptures and refrences. Some sections start off great but then roll right into religion. No thank you!

Don't get it

There was way too much rambling in this book, and I had to return the next day.

Very Good

Some of these comments posted are so irrelevant. I would suggest you researching the author before you invest time or money reading something that is obviously of no interest to you. Your views have nothing to do with the book. It's more reflective of how and where you see your life.

Connectedness does not = religion

This book relies heavily on scripture and no where in the reviews or book description does it state this is a Christian book. Very challenging to sift through the bizarre references to the authors particular brand of religion to get to the core actions of how to build connection.

Wow

Thought provoking, especially since finding your people feels challenging at times. I struggle with opening up and trusting people. So many bad experiences, and yet I still try. Thankful for this book. Many times in this book, I was like omg that is me. I feel like my eyes have been opened. Please read this book friends and family! Sooooooooo Good!

Very Religious

Like the other reviews state, there’s many references to Christianity/Religion. Made it difficult to get through the book as someone with religious trauma. I understand that it may have been an important aspect in the author’s life so the first few mentions of it were nbd to me, but afterwards it was mentioned way too often which made it non-applicable/interesting to me. Respectfully, I’m not looking to be converted. This book just wasn’t for me as much as I wanted to like it.

So good!

Such a good book! The older I get, the harder it is to maintain friendships. This book really speaks to what you should focus on. Love it!

Was not expecting this book to have anything to do with God

Did not realize this was a read that would have so many religious references…. Probably would not have selected this book had that been more clear. Some thought provoking and relatable insights, but could do without all the Bible references.

Life Changing

Another great book by Jennie Allen. God is using you in a mighty way in this crazy world we are living in. This book will change the way you think about all relationships. I have even found myself thinking about my marriage as I am reading this book. Thank you Jennie for caring about loneliness in relationships. We need this book!

You found thw book, now live it!

LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. Jennie takes building community seriously and gives such a great way to do that! She looks at biblical examples of community and uses those to push the reader into a place of walking into biblical community. She thinks ahead of your questions and gives answers to questions you didn’t even think about!! 12/10 recommend!

A Must Read!!

This book is amazing. I didn’t know I needed it until I started reading it. This book helps explain and prepare you for making friends with the right people. It also helps you identify the type of friend you are. I personally, thought I needed a specific group of people around me, but this book helped me realize I was being narrow minded in my thinking. If you have friends, want to learn how to make friends, or simply want to learn more about your role as a friend this book is for you.
