The mat is 6mm, but doesn't feel 6mm. The material is too soft and compresses very easily - my knees and hands sink completely into the padding and I can feel the hard floor beneath me just as intensely as when I use 3mm or 4mm mats. I have used 6mm mats from other brands that did not give me any knee pain because the mats, while well-padded, remained firm enough under contact points to avoid ""sinking"" into it. I was really hoping one of Gaiam's 6mm mats would offer the same comfort, but unfortunately that's not the case for me. Pattern is lovely; the design allows you to easily check heel and arch alignment. Aired out with no smell after just 12 hours. Very sad to have to return this, because it's a beautiful mat. *review sourced from Gaiam
