Q: What is the chalky/white powdery substance on this yoga mat? I thought that it was just glue or something on the outside from the label, but when I opened it the inside and much of the rest of the outside were powdery, too
submitted by colins - 2 months ago
A: The white residue could be oxidation from the TPE material. Please wipe the mat down prior to use with 50/50 solution of water and vinegar. This will remove any material or ink residue from the mat. Allow mat to air dry flat.

This mat is downright dangerous. I bought it to replace a $15 Gaia mat I got ages ago & I had trusted the brand. My hands were slipping & sliding & it wasn’t even a hot yoga class. Thanks to Target’s return policy I got my money back & have kept using my old mat.

It smells of chemicals, even after I wiped it down, then brought it in the shower so that the suds could cover it. When using it for the first time, there were these weird white pieces of something on the mat.

I purchased this mat less than two months ago and take one to two hours of yoga classes per week. About two weeks ago, I noticed the color leeching off onto my skin during practice. Unacceptable for the price. The streaks seen in the photo are NOT water or sweat marks.

not worth the price, can easily find one at tjmaxx or ross for half the cost that would be comparable to this

I’ve used this mat for hot yoga for around 6 months now and it’s been great. Very cushy compared to other mats and I haven’t slipped much at all.

Giving this two stars for the thickness and general quality, but can't give it a higher rating for three reasons: - Most importantly, my hands and feet slip whenever I go into poses with horizontal resistance. It's impossible to sink into downward facing dog when your hands are sliding forward and toes sliding back. I would argue it's actually dangerous for some poses. Both sides are bad. - Mat does not lie flat when going from rolled up to rolled out. Either side. I don't even store it rolled up that tightly. - Purple side shows hand and feet prints as some other reviews noted. These don't go away with gentle washing. In all, I've tried this thing for over a year and I'm finally giving in and buying a new, cheaper mat. Stay away from this one if you're using it for yoga.

I have another mat by the same brand also purchased at Target and thought this would be similar. This one cost much more, is thicker and bulkier, and the color bleeds. I'd read in Q&A of one mat that thicker mats might be best - but I like my original mat much better.

We are sorry to hear that the thicker mat does not work for you. Please see our full mat selection at https://getactv.com/collections/yoga-mats

I actually really like the material, but for some reason it has sparkles on it (that easily come off) and it’s chalky or something. Going to return it.

Color wise, it looks cute. It smells strongly of chemicals and the purple side shows spots while working out. It’s not sweat, almost like it shows spots from the oils from your hands.

When they are first unwrapped, yoga mats release a strong (but harmless) odor. Please unroll and air out your mat for 2-3 days before use. Spot clean with our Yoga Mat Wash or damp cloth with cold water and mild detergent. Dry flat. The mat may fade and become brittle and unusable if exposed to the sun for extended periods of time. We recommend storing your mat in a mat bag when not in use.

I've had this mat for atleast 6 years now, still looks like new! I like that it's thick enough to cushion me from the hardness of my floor and yet not bulky, I have never had a mat curling or stretching issue with this one

It's grippier than the mat that I had which is super nice as I'm not sliding around anymore. It says it's two sided but it's really hard to get the mat to stay flat on either side. Maybe I just need more time with it? But overall, the quality is really nice. The grippiness is nice and the colors are really pretty.

This is a decent mat for stretching or floor exercises I do in my basement gym. I don’t think I’d use it for my studio yoga class however. That being said am I the only one that noticed the mat has glitter/shimmer? It easily rubs off on my hands and clothing. I’m hoping a good wipe down will fix the problem, maybe it was a mistake that mine has glitter?? I didn’t even notice until I got it home and unrolled it.

I have had this yoga mat for years - I think I purchased it in 2018-2019. It has held up with constant use throughout the years (my daily mat), and while I'm rather attached to it, I would not buy it again. It never truly lies flat, leaving you with lifted edges at the ends, even after only having been rolled for a few hours. The grip is also mid, I've used this mat for every type of yoga/barre/mat pilates there is and there is always a slip no matter the temperature. The material stains very easily, and despite frequent cleanings the mat looks dingy (but that's to be expected after nearly 5 years, just a problem I've always noticed). I do like the different textures on each side and the thickness. Overall a very comfortable mat, and if you're looking for longevity + can get over the flaws I mentioned, this is a good mat.

I love this mat and have been using it for years now. I love how thick it is, and the different texture on both sides is nice. I personally don’t find it slippery. I’m typically doing yin yoga poses.
