Q: Is the folate in this prenatal methylfolate?

submitted by BB - 2 years ago
  • A: Our Science Team has confirmed that our mykind Organics Prenatal products contain Folate, not Folic Acid. The Folate in our mykind Organics formulas is in a whole food form and is it coming directly from the Organic Lemon (peel) in the ingredients. It is the same as you eating foods and getting folate from them. The Folate in our products is not labeled as methyl-Folate; therefore, we cannot make this claim since we have not specifically tested for this form.

Q: What is the difference between Prenatal and Prenatal Once Daily? I compared the supplement facts, which differ in a couple of vitamins percentages. Otherwise, they have pretty much the same composition. So why is the latter much more expensive?

submitted by Viana - 3 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your review. While both of our mykind Organic Prenatal Formulas are nutritionally sound, the mykind Organic Prenatal Multi is more comprehensive and has more of some of the nutrients than what is in the mykind Once Daily Prenatal. Mykind Organic Prenatal Multi is a serving of 3 tablets. Mykind Prenatal Multi contains 167% Daily Value of Vitamin D3 (1,000 IU), 133% Daily Value of Folate (800 mcg) and 500% Daily value Vitamin B12 (14mcg). The Mykind Organic Prenatal also has a Certified Organic Stomach Soothing Blend that is not in the Once Daily Prenatal. Mykind Prenatal Once Daily is the first and only Certified USDA Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, Nutritionally Sound, Prenatal ONE-A-DAY. The prenatal nutrients are still complete in the convenient once daily tablet. It contains 125% Daily Value of Vitamin D3 (900 IU), 100% Daily Value of Folate (600 mcg) and 107% Daily value Vitamin B12 (3mcg). The Once Daily formula is generally intended for those already taking a one-a-day that would like to switch to a whole food vegan one-a-day, or for those who need traveling convenience.

New formula? Hives breakout

2 out of 5 stars
Thumbs down graphic, would not recommend
Jnguyen7 - 3 months ago, Verified purchaser
I want to first start by saying I’ve taken this prenatal for about 3 years (pregnant, breastfeeding, and now pregnant again). I like that it’s organic and only 1 pill/day. However, I’m giving a poor rating and only now writing a review to hopefully help someone else if this happens to them as I’m unsure if they changed the formula for this recently. I purchased 2 bottles when they were on a sale recently. I started one of the new bottles last Thursday. On Friday, I broke out in hives all over my body. I didn’t change anything else, eat new foods, or any allergen triggers. This was completely uncommon for me. I continued taking the vitamin because it didn’t occur to me until 3 days later (when the hives still persisted) that it was the only change. The hives improved the next day. Now, it could be coincidental, but it’s not something I’m willing to risk and try again due to how uncomfortable it was. 2 stars for it being good for so many years. However, the unopened box is getting returned. I switched to another organic prenatal that’s 2 pills per day. Garden of Life, if you did switch the formula recently, please switch it back.

Used this my first pregnancy. Some days the pill was hard to swallow or I would have a bad after taste. One time I threw up immediately after taking it. Using for my second pregnancy and this time no issues. 4 stars for the aftertaste

I absolutely love these! I have been looking forever for a good prenatal or vitamin in general but the issue I always face is the size.. I have issues swallowing anything larger than Tylenol.. & it seems like most adult vitamins & especially prenatals, are so large!!! I love these Vitamins bc so far they aren’t making me sick like prenatal have done me in the past! they really don’t taste that bad at all neither! & I can chew these!!! That makes me so happy bc of my issues with pills! I get a strong raspberry flavor while chewing an yess a kinda nasty iron taste but if I drink with a sip of something flavored I can’t tell the difference! I love the cleanliness of these vitamins being vegan and organic, I also admire the fact of all the greens, veggies and fruits that they have, I love that!! I’ve been taking these about two months now with no skipped days & my hair has grown about 2 1/2 inches longer since I’ve started! I’ve been having thinning issues and I truly see these are helping!! Along with my nails being harder! I will take these forever

The easiest way to swallow this huge/smelly pills

4 out of 5 stars
Thumbs up graphic, would recommend
N - 4 months ago
I chose this brand because i like that they all organic and vegan ingredients. I would loudly say I wish the size of pills are smaller and taste better. I had straggled taking it for the first 2 days because of size and taste but I figured out if I put water in my mouth first, and pinch my nose (so that way you don’t taste or smell it) and then look upward at an angle and then finally put the pill in my mouth and swallow it, it goes down super smooth. I take additional 2,3 sips of water after swallowing the pill to make sure the disgusting smell/taste doesn’t stay in my mouse also. I tried to cut it in the half before trying this way but it was actually worse bc I tasted/smelled even more lol I am so glad that I figured this out. If you are like me, believe me this would make it at least better!

I like that it’s organic and has a lot of great things in it. My only negative that I can tell so far is that it smells and has a taste. I tried to swallow fast after seeing other reviews. To me it smells like playdoh. Other than that’s it’s great overall

Not enough mg of IRON for pregnancy.

3 out of 5 stars
Thumbs down graphic, would not recommend
HCI - 4 months ago
I really like this brand, but I would not suggest taking this before or during pregnancy, without adding an ADDITIONAL SEPARATE 13.5 mg Iron pill. The daily recommended amount of iron in early pregnancy is 27 mg, and the recommended amount of Folic Acid is 600 mcg. This vitamin does have 600 mcg of Folic Acid, but it ONLY HAS 13.5 mg OF IRON, so you would need to find an additional Iron supplement to make up for the remaining 13.5 mg. Taking two of these pills would be a terrible idea, as the mcg intake of Folic Acid would then be WAY too high, as well as the intake of those other vitamins and minerals. You’re better off finding an organic supplement that has the CORRECT PROPORTIONS/amounts of Iron, Folic Acid, Vitamin B12, etc in one pill.

I bought this because it was a glass jar, and looked official and safe. I am trying to conceive so I thought taking a prenatal vitamin that isn’t generic would be much better. However since it was in a box I didn’t see how small the amount of vitamins they had inside. 1) These pills are HUGE 2) Leaves a disgusting taste in your mouth, it almost lingers and I don’t think that would be any food if pregnant either 3) I counted how many pills I had, it stated 30, and received 29. For the amount of money I spent, I think I prefer another brand or maybe just go back to the generic brands…

These are my favorite prenatals! I've used this brand for 2/3 pregnancies and it's great. I still continue to take it while breastfeeding and I don't have any negative side effects. With other prenatal I always brake out in ance maybe due to high potency. But this one is doesn't break me out! Yes the pills are huge but you get used to it after a while. I would highly recommend these!

These gave me really strong GERD and acid reflux issues. They also caused stomach discomfort. The pill is huge and very difficult to swallow which will make your nausea worse, if you have it. Only plus was that they don’t smell horrible and don’t have a weird after taste.

I’m 7 weeks into my 5th pregnancy and I’ve never been great at consistently taking prenatals because of extreme nausea/vomiting. As soon as I found out I was pregnant this time I searched high and low for something trustworthy and affordable and landed on these. I started taking them the day after I missed my period and tested positive. My past pregnancies have immediately began with extreme nausea and fatigue to the point I am bed-ridden. This is the FIRST TIME I feel actually GREAT in the first trimester! My energy levels are high and I have experienced zero nausea/vomiting so far. I am able to still keep up with my other children and feel even better than before I was pregnant. I believe it’s because of these and I’m so grateful. The pill is quite large but I don’t mind it. The taste is not horrible by any means. 100% recommend these.

I was concerned that this item contained folic acid instead of folate, so I reached out to the company. This was the answer I recieved, "Thank you for your interest in Garden of Life's products. Our Science Team has confirmed that our Organics products contain Folate and not Folic Acid. The Folate in our Organics formulas is in a whole-food form and is coming directly from the Organic Lemon (peel) in the ingredients." I've recently switched to this brand from another brand and am so far pleased with no aftertaste and no nausea. The supplement seems to be a similar size to most prenatal vitamins I've encountered.
