Ghirardelli Premium Baking Chocolate Chips

A: I avoid dairy (cheese, milk, all of it) but I made an exception when the ingredients changed on these chips. Fortunately, they don't seem to impact me, so it must not be much. But that is just my experience. If you really can't eat dairy be careful.

A: According to the list of ingredients on the back of the bag, the chocolate "may contain milk."

A: Guittard chocolate is comparable quality to Ghirardelli & is "Free from 14 allergens & sensitizers" including dairy. I like the Guittard Extra Dark Chocolate, which is 63% cacao.

A: Yes, it is absolutely dairy-free. My husband's lactose intolerant, so I did my homework before making a flourless chocolate cake for him. Some may have dairy from the fat they use, like butter, but this product uses cocoa butter, which is the oil extracted from the cocoa. So no worries!😄

A: These 60% bittersweet chocolate chips contain 6g of sugar per serving, they do not contain sugar alcohol. We are launching 72% Cacao and 100% Cacao (no sugar added) in Fall of 2020.

A: None - until you add some.

A: They do not contain cocoa butter, so are not chocolate; however, they can be melted for candy recipes.

A: These chips can be used in any baking or candy recipe. They can also be melted and used for dipping, the instructions are included on the back of the package,

A: Ghirardelli Bars, Squares and Shapes are made in a facility and on shared equipment with products containing the following tree nuts: almonds, pecans, hazelnuts, cashews, and coconut. Ghirardelli chocolate chips (60% Bittersweet, Semi-Sweet, Mini Semi-Sweet, Non-Dairy, and Milk Chocolate) are not produced on shared equipment that run tree nuts However, our chips are produced in the same facility that produce tree nut containing products. Peanuts are not used in the manufacturing facility for Bar, Squares and the following Chocolate Chips: 60% Bittersweet, Semi-Sweet, Semi-Sweet mini and Milk Chocolate.

A: We recommend using a double boiler method for the best results.

A: While many of our products do list cacao percentages, some do not, like the Semi-Sweet Mini Chips you are referring to. However, what we can share with you is the chocolate used in that product has a cacao content of around 50%.

A: Our classic white chips are produced in a facility that only has Dairy/Milk and Sly.

A: We are pleased to let you know that many of our products are made without gluten-containing ingredients, such as our 60%, 72%, 86%, and 92% cacao bars and squares. In addition, you can feel confident that our baking chips and baking bars are also made without gluten-containing ingredients. Gluten may be found in several premium chocolate products that Ghirardelli Chocolate Company produces; either as a glucose (wheat) or a barley component. It is also possible that a Ghirardelli Chocolate Company product is labeled with a “may contain wheat” precautionary allergen statement. Exact ingredients are listed on the label of each package. For consumers who are sensitive to gluten, we recommend reviewing the ingredient statement on all Ghirardelli products before consuming and to consult with your doctor.

A: Our white chocolate baking bars can be used to make your own chocolate bars. You need to keep in mind the bar needs to be tempered prior to using.

A: As of January 1, 2023, the National Bioengineered Food Disclosure Standard requires disclosure of bioengineered (BE) food ingredients on labels. We are pleased to confirm that Ghirardelli chocolate and cocoa powders (excluding baking mixes and sauces) do not contain bioengineered ingredients and are not required to be labeled as such.
