It is a good dumbbell. The grip is thin which we wanted. The rubber has some smell that is strong compared to other rubber coated dumbbells we purchased from another store. Unfortunately, the odor does not go away after cleaning with soap and water.

We are sorry for any issues you encountered with your dumbbell. We recommend wiping the weight down with a soft cloth and a solution of 50/50 water and witch hazel to help dissipate the odor. Please leave in an open space and allow the dumbbell to dry completely.

I am 0 for 4 on deliveries of weights. They are always getting lost or damaged. Customer service is also terrible in not providing reimbursement when original and replacement don’t arrive.

I like the proportions. As a 60 yr old woman I can lift with one hand on each weight like I’m bench pressing. However I do not like that the black weights smell. I feel like they might deteriorate rapidly with a little time. Maybe they won’t but they are a bit sticky and smell like tires.

I felt misinformed by the title. I thought, and also double checked this online, that "hex" stands for hexagonal, meaning 6 sides. These dumbbells have 8 sides after counting them and should be advertised as such. I'm really hoping they still work the same as true hex dumbbells... I do movements like renegade rows where I need the dumbbell heads to be stable and flat sides for stability. Since these sides are shorter than true hex dumbbells I'm a little concerned.

Perfect addition to my home gym. They can easily be stacked with other weights. I would suggest to wear gloves because while the handle is easy to grip, it could become slippery if you sweat a lot. I purchased the 40 and 50 lb dumbbells.
