About the Book
""Whip-smart, creepy as hell, and masterfully plotted, Hidden Pictures is the best new thriller novel I've read in years. Destined to be a classic of the genre." -Ransom Riggs, bestselling author of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children From Jason Rekulak, Edgar-nominated author of The Impossible Fortress, comes a wildly inventive spin on the classic horror story in Hidden Pictures, a creepy and warm-hearted mystery about a woman working as a nanny for a young boy with strange and disturbing secrets. Fresh out of rehab, Mallory Quinn takes a job in the affluent suburb of Spring Brook, New Jersey as a babysitter for Ted and Caroline Maxwell. She is to look after their five-year-old son, Teddy. Mallory immediately loves this new job. She lives in the Maxwell's pool house, goes out for nightly runs, and has the stability she craves. And she sincerely bonds with Teddy, a sweet, shy boy who is never without his sketchbook and pencil. His drawings are the usual fare: trees, rabbits, balloons. But one day, he draws something different: a man in a forest, dragging a woman's lifeless body. As the days pass, Teddy's artwork becomes more and more sinister, and his stick figures steadily evolve into more detailed, complex, and lifelike sketches well beyond the ability of any five-year-old. Mallory begins to suspect these are glimpses of an unsolved murder from long ago, perhaps relayed by a supernatural force lingering in the forest behind the Maxwell's house. With help from a handsome landscaper and an eccentric neighbor, Mallory sets out to decipher the images and save Teddy-while coming to terms with a tragedy in her own past-before it's too late"--Book Synopsis

From Jason Rekulak, Edgar-nominated author of The Impossible Fortress, comes a wildly inventive spin on the classic horror story in Hidden Pictures, a supernatural thriller about a woman working as a nanny for a young boy with strange and disturbing secrets. Fresh out of rehab, Mallory Quinn takes a job as a babysitter for Ted and Caroline Maxwell. She is to look after their five-year-old son, Teddy. Mallory immediately loves it. She has her own living space, goes out for nightly runs, and has the stability she craves. And she sincerely bonds with Teddy, a sweet, shy boy who is never without his sketchbook and pencil. Then, Teddy's artwork becomes increasingly sinister, and his stick figures quickly evolve into lifelike sketches well beyond the ability of any five-year-old. Mallory begins to wonder if these are glimpses of a long-unsolved murder, perhaps relayed by a supernatural force. Knowing just how crazy it all sounds, Mallory nevertheless sets out to decipher the images and save Teddy before it's too late.Review Quotes
"Beautiful, terrifying, and surprisingly kind."--CrimeReads
I read Hidden Pictures and loved it. The language is straightforward, the surprises really surprise, and it has that hard-to-achieve propulsiveness that won't let you put it down. And the pictures are terrific! --Stephen King "Whip-smart, creepy as hell, and masterfully plotted, Hidden Pictures is the best new thriller novel I've read in years. Destined to be a classic of the genre." --Ransom Riggs, bestselling author of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children "Hidden Pictures is one of those rare gems that's aware of the rules of the genre even as it breaks them and invents new ones. It's a gas to read, full of wonderful new ideas, both literary and visual. This is one of those books you leave out long after finishing, just so your friends might see it and give you the chance to share it! Jason Rekulak is going to be telling us all stories for a good long while." --Scott Frank, Academy Award-nominated screenwriter and Emmy-winning director of The Queen's Gambit For a few days, my life was completely hijacked by Jason Rekulak's Hidden Pictures, one of the best and most inventive ghost stories I've read in years. The damaged but still fighting Mallory Quinn stole my heart and her plunge into supernatural wonder gripped my imagination. It's a beautiful dark rush of a novel. I'm already excited to read it again. --Joe Hill "Hidden Pictures isn't a ghost story, it's a scalpel that slices into our smug sense of self-satisfaction so deeply it hits bone. A perfect summer thriller complete with vengeful spirits, class warfare, and it even has pictures. What more could you want?" --Grady Hendrix, bestselling author of The Final Girl Support GroupAbout the Author

I was leary about reading a book written so recently as everything is woke and garbage now. But this? I loved it! Not woke, paints the libs as the nuts they are. The characters are great, the plot is full of twists you don't see coming. It's a page turner for sure! I haven't finished a book in one day in a very long time, I couldn't put this down! I HAD to know what happened next, I'm just glad I started this on a Saturday morning lol I stayed up well into the early morning hours reading! I'm telling everyone to read this book!
A story you cannot predict.

Loved this story and so many twists!!! Easy read and often gives you chills. Loved it ..I bought this book in store, the last copy. Some of the pages looked a little dented but it was so minor..it was only after I got home and started reading that it looks like the book was kicked or dropped opened. I tried to exchange it but the other targets near me didn't have any in stock even though online said they did. Can't really complain Because the rest of it is fine and I can still read that page just sucks to get a damaged book. Check your books!
So freakin' good!!!

1st Person POV, Addict MC, Check CW/Triggers Holy freakin’ cow! This book was soooo good. It was nothing like what I had excepted it to be, but it was so much better! The majority of the story had an eerie & spooky feel, until you get hit with the massive twist. While the twist was shocking and unexpected, it didn’t feel at all unrealistic. Important Note: This book contains some AMAZING artwork/images, that really elevate the experience of this story. Due to this, it’s not a book I’d recommend listening to on audiobook, due to the loss of these pictures throughout the story.
I couldn't stop reading.

ARE YOU HERE FROM TIKTOK? If so- please read. I feel bamboozeled that this book was described as scary. It is not. It’s an easy read, you don’t need to get your thesaurus out, you don’t have to force yourself to keep reading. It’s a nice read that keeps you interested. It feels like a few episodes of a show. Mystery would be a better genre for this book. At no point in time did I feel scared. Or creeped out. Some of the ending was predictable, some was not. Is this the scariest book you’ll ever read? Absolutely 100% not even close. But it’s still fun to read and the author did a great job.
