A: Technically not antibacterial. Though, the US FDA found 0 evidence of antibacterial soaps better at preventing illness than plain soap and water. Antibac soap can actually be worse long term.

A: Our Ivory Gentle Bar Soap Original has the original scent. In the beauty care industry, we use two specific terms to help consumers find the right products to use, unscented and fragrance-free. Unscented products may contain a light scent to mask the natural odor of the ingredients in the formula. These ingredients do not have a pleasant smell, which is why it's necessary to add a very small amount of light fragrance to make the product more enjoyable to use. Fragrance-free products do not contain any added fragrance.

Q: The ten bar package I have at home shows 4X MORE/PLUS in the upper left. But in the store I saw a pack of fewer bars with 2.5X and another, I think with 3 or 3.5 X. Explain this on the package!

The bars are very small compared to other brands. They changed the scent - it's now very citrus heavy when it used to smell more musky and clean. The formula feels like a castille soap which leaves residue on EVERYTHING. I think the new Ivory is terrible and will definitely not repurchase.

For 60 years I’ve used Ivory bar soap exclusively. It was my constant in a changing world. But not any more. This new formulation is waxy, smaller, smells weird… It’s an entirely different product and should no longer be called Ivory. Why did the company dupe me into buying a product that was mislabelled as my beloved Ivory? An honest company would change the product name and package design when they so drastically change the product. I am dreading my search for a new soap as I have multiple sensitivities. Please, just call this a failed experiment and go back to the original formula! Zero stars for this product.

My family starting with my grandma, then my mom, and finally me, altogether faithfully used Ivory bar soap for over a century. Sadly, that tradition is over. The original Ivory was always a reliable 5 star product and a daily constant for all of my 67 years of life. My mom and grandma passed away years ago, but they too used Ivory on their babies and throughout their lives. I tried to do the math and came up with roughly 5000 as the number of bars my family has purchased since Ivory soap came on the market. As with all good things, it has come to an end. The new replacement soap needs a new name because there is nothing about it that is the same. I gave the new soap one star only because I do like the smell. That is all, just the smell. It doesn't clean the natural oils off my face in the morning, it gets lost on the bottom of the tub, and it is so soft it melts in the water. It is NOT everything that the old Ivory soap was, it is the opposite. I am looking for something else.

I have been using a 'castile' soap for years now because my husband says no perfumes, dyes etc due to his preferences. The castile brand is/was pretty pricey but now is not being stocked at all at our grocery store. My dad was an M.D., A general physician, and he only brought home Ivory soap. I bought a two bar pack- as I told my husband no more Kirk's. He's very happy with the Ivory bar soap and I Super Happy to be using it again. No perfume. Suds nicely. Cleans! And Rinses so well. The bars are also so much more longer lasting than our former brand. The 10 pack option is a great bargain. Love Ivory Soap

I've been using the Ivory original bar soap for my entire life. Relied on it for over forty years. They changed it, and its terrible now. It smells MUCH stronger than it used to, so much so it gives me a headache if I wash with it. It's clearly a cheaper formula. It doesnt float anymore. A new bar used to have a texture when you unwrapped it, now its smooth like plastic. It has a seem going around the bar that the old bars never had. It degrades very rapidly, and there is more residue leftover. It's NOT the pure product it used to be and calling it "original" should be ILLEGAL. It's beyond disappointing to see a trusted brand turn to garbage in the pursuit of profits. Pathetic and disgusting, like your revolting "soap"

I decided to use wayback machine to look at the ingredient changes, from what i can tell, citronellal is missing, I assume this would cause higher amounts of the other family of citronella extracts and oils to make up for the strongest scent producing product missing. lemongrass and citronella are common allergens for those with contact dermatitis. this used to not cause problems with me now it does. I assume the now larger concentration of citronella derivatives is causing irritation due to the lack of the fragrance producing derivative. please fix this

As a side note, we did update our formula in October 2023 to incorporate plant-based cleansers. This enhancement has made the bars more concentrated, which may explain why they feel a bit firmer. You changed the formula. Best part was that it floated in the bathtub in case it fell in, and i could find it, now i can't. The smell is different, and if it's made in Colombia, why? We need the jobs here. Please go back to the same formula and stop with the greed Ivory. Don't the CEO's have enough money? Start paying US employees better wages. 30 years using the same excellent soap. Then you go and pull a "New Coke" on your customers. This is unacceptable. While the new version isn't bad, it's not as good as the old. Here's your solution: Relaunch "Original" as the old animal-based version. Add a NEW plant-based soap and market it as such. You have a market that will be happy to use a plant-based version and a loyal customer base that wants the original back. Your marketing seems proud of 140 years of the same product, but you are now lying to your customers.

While all of our ingredients are carefully assessed for safety and effectiveness when used as directed, we understand that individual sensitivities can sometimes make certain products difficult to use. We recommend discontinuing the use of this product and encourage you to reach out to us for additional support. It may help to know that our bars have always been scented. We did, however, change our formula to be plant-based, which may have altered the scent. If you are looking for an unscented option, we do offer our Ivory Sensitive Skin - Fragrance Free Body Wash.
