Description

Sometimes you just need a fresh start. This clarifying shampoo removes mineral deposits, product buildup, excess oils and even silicones that can build up over time. Use this when needed to get a deeper clean.

How to:
1. Depending on the thickness of your hair, squeeze a dime to quarter-sized amount into your palm.
2. Apply to wet hair, massaging into the scalp to create a rich lather. Add more shampoo if desired.
3. Rinse thoroughly and repeat if necessary.
Tip: Always follow a clarifying shampoo with a super moisturizing conditioner or mask.

Contains Zip-Up Technology, our proprietary strengthening complex designed to "zip-up" split ends while targeting weak areas of the hair, smoothing the appearance of damaged cuticles and helping to protect hair from environmental stressors and color fade.

Q: is this good for hair that is frizzy? my hair is also super oily at the roots and dry/frizzy and the ends, I need help! is it okay to use this, do you have any other advice?

submitted by Sunshine - 5 months ago
  • A: Hey Sunshine, The Kristin Ess Deep Clean Clarifying Shampoo is good for an occasional detox, not recommended for daily use. Always follow a clarifying shampoo with a super moisturizing conditioner or mask like the Kristin Ess Strand Strengthening Reconstructive Hair Repair Mask. For daily use, I recommend the Kristin Ess The One Signature Shampoo for you. For real-time answers to all your beauty questions, use the “Chat with a Virtual Beauty Consultant” button on any beauty product page.

Q: Will this remove the pink out of my naturally blonde hair without damaging my natural hair color?

submitted by valvoy - 2 years ago
  • A: Hello! Thanks for your question. Our clarifying shampoo will certainly help expedite the removal process for you. We do recommend following up with a moisture rich conditioner or hair mask after shampooing with the clarifying shampoo to help your hair maintain its moisture levels.

Q: is this safe for highlighted (blonde) hair?

submitted by MaryH - 2 years ago
  • A: Hello! We wouldn't recommend our Deep Clean Clarifying Shampoo for color treated hair. For a nice deep cleansing, we would recommend our color safe "Scalp Purifying Micellar Shampoo" as the best choice for your highlighted hair.

Q: Is this good for every wash use, or is it more of a once a month type shampoo?

submitted by Mia823 - 3 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your question, this is more like a weekly wash use. We don't recommend using it every time you wash your hair.

Q: Is this good for curly hair?

submitted by Abby - 3 years ago
  • A: Thanks for your question! Our Clarifying Shampoo is meant to deep cleanse the hair and strip the hair of any mineral deposits, product buildup, excess oils and even silicones that can build up over time. This product can be used on curly hair types but please keep in mind this is not color safe and can be drying. We suggest to always follow a clarifying shampoo with a super moisturizing conditioner or mask.

Drying

Even when I follow up with a hair mask this shampoo dries my scalp out to the extreme. It is incredibly stripping almost to a fault. If you have oily hair it might not be as bad for you but personally this shampoo is way to drying!

This product is great! I have thin wavy/curly hair and I love this cleansing shampoo. I do use a lot of gel, curl cream, and other products in my hair daily. This shampoo really helps stop build up and add volume to my hair again. I have learned a few things about it though. I think most of the negative reviews are user error and I have learned a few things that may good to know when considering this purchase. I used to use this product every day which I do not recommend. Buy a 2nd shampoo and use this one 1-3 times a month. I often use a deep conditioning curl conditioner after using this and I found out that is the best combination for my hair. Or a hair mask works too. Since I do have thin hair I did notice my hair was more prone to breakage while I was using it everyday. It makes perfect sense because it is deep cleansing which can be drying. As long as you use it only a couple times a month with another hydrating (sulfate free recommend) shampoo and conditioner you should be perfectly fine. I would highly recommend this to a friend because it is a game changer in hair care. I would recommend you reading the information/instructions on the bottle and just find out the combination that works best with your hair. Also I often use this after oil treatment, working out/sweating, excessive hair product use, after purple shampoo (cause those aren’t sulfate free) , and when I feel like my hair is lacking volume.

After researching several clarifying shampoos I decided to give this one try. I wanted a shampoo that would cleanse my scalp and get rid of any buildup that other shampoos had left. Well this was a mistake! My scalp and hair do not feel clean at all even though I shampooed twice and thoroughly rinsed. Total waste of money!

Hair Loss- Be Aware

This shampoo ruined my hair. I have experienced so much hair loss while using this product. I used it once a week and my hair has thinned out significantly. I didn’t realize until a friend of mine said something about how much less hair I had and asked if I used something new. You can see right through to my scalp in multiple areas. It dawned on me in that moment it was this. Please be very cautious. I have to nurse my hair back to health again and it’s going to take time. I checked the reviews for multiple products from this brand and there are too many similar reports of hair loss. Please be careful.

Drying

bendyknee - 22 days ago
I like how it smells, light scent. Just one use (3 hours ago) my hair feels EXTREMELY dry, like straw. I don’t use heating products, I dry my hair with a microfiber towel or even air dry. Sometimes, I don’t put oil or leave in conditioner in my hair cause it’s decently soft (growing the color out). My hair was getting softer but this just ruined all my progress. I have wavy thick hair. This just feels like it fried my hair and scalp, my scalp is so dry and itchy. My hair and scalp wasn’t this bad until I used this product this morning. I don’t even want to attempt another wash with this in fear of my hair and scalp. This product may work for others, but not for me.

10/10! I live with well water and the mineral buildup is horrible. I’ve never had my hair feeling cleaner or looking better than with this shampoo. It also smells really good without being overbearing and smelling overly artificial.

Elle - 1 month ago
I really really wanted to love this but it did not do my hair well. I noticed after a few uses my hair would get extremely oily. Instead of doing a 4-day no Wash, I had to go down to 2 because it felt dull, heavy and oily…even on the bottom hair of my head. Typically it’s only at the top, right? Nope. this made it oily EVERYWHERE. Since I had my suspicions I tested it twice and sure enough this product was to blame. Since I stopped, my hair has gone back to normal and I returned the product.

I adore this shampoo. I’m Indian and I have slightly thick bone straight hair. It used to be super oily, but I have trained it to where I only wash once or twice every two weeks. On wash day, I put the Mielle rosemary oil in my scalp and follow with this shampoo at least four hours later. I always use a deep conditioner after and I love this shampoo. Because I don’t use it too much, it has lasted me a while. As long as you follow the directions, you will be satisfied!

Moisture stripping shampoo

3 out of 5 stars
acdixon - 2 months ago, Verified purchaser
It smells good, and it’s a clarifying shampoo alright, but it stripped my curls a little too well upon first use. It gave my hair that extra “squeaky” clean feeling, which I don’t love. Be sure to follow up with a moisturizing deep conditioner before you’re finished with your wash day!

Honestly, it smells great and it cleans really well I’m only giving it 1 star because over the last 2 months I’ve started realizing that I’m losing a LOT of hair. Im talking fistfuls every time I wash it. The only difference has been that I started using this product. I don’t blow dry, curl or straighten my hair, it air dries naturally and I don’t put it up in a tight ponytail or bun or do anything that could cause the amount of hair loss I’ve been having since switching to this shampoo. I’ve done some review digging across other sites too and it seems to be a recurring thing with people who have naturally darker hair.

I have fine - thick hair (skinny strands and a LOT of it) It definitely does its job and the conditioner to follow up is great. I have well water and the owners yet to look into a water softener. It cleans my scalp well that being said; i do not use it every day, more like twice a week. I use the purple shampoo from this brand in between. The smell everyone talks about is the same as from a salon so not really sure why people hate that.

This shampoo clarifies, but doesn’t seem to completely strip my hair to an unhealthy condition. I have pretty hard water at my house and even with a filter on my shower head I still need a good clarifying shampoo every month or so. This shampoo has helped me get back to only having to wash my hair every 5 days. The smell is subtle and pleasant and it lathers and cleans very well.
