Sight Words Quiz Wheel was a great idea to help her prepare for kindergarten. It's super portable, perfect for trips or visits to Grandma's. We haven't made it through all the cards yet, but I like how they increase in difficulty. I used to depend on flashcards, but this method allows me to cover many words in a single session.

She can sound out some words, but sight words (let's define them as words that aren't intuitive phonetically—the, who, could, etc.) are another thing entirely. So when BzzAgent offered me the opportunity to try the Skill Builders! Sight Words Quiz Wheel for free, I jumped at the chance. And it's awesome! More than flash cards (boring) or parent instruction (doubly boring), the word wheel makes recognizing sight words fun. The cards are numbered by difficulty and grouped loosely by subject, which makes it easier to learn and memorize. The spinning wheel and window make it easy to isolate a word in the fashion of a flash cards, but my child thinks it's fun because it's round. The back storage compartment closes securely. The front cover is connected, which means you can't lose the most important part. It can be tricky for a child to switch cards, but that might even be a bonus, as it allows the child to focus on the card at hand. My preschooler is a fan, and I am a slightly better parent for having helped her engage with these sight words instead of having them be completely static. I recommend!

My 7-year-old was excited to start using it right away and, to my surprise, wanted to dive in on his own. As a parent, I really appreciate any educational tool that encourages independence, and this one absolutely does. One of the standout features is how easy it is to change out the sight word card wheels. I helped my son swap out the cards the first time, and then he quickly got the hang of it. Now, he's able to change them on his own with a little help when needed. He actually likes being able to use it independently—it gives him a sense of ownership over his learning, which is great to see at this age. He just picks it up at random times throughout the day. I also really love how light and portable it is. We've taken it with us on car rides and it doesn't feel like a bulky or high-maintenance activity, so it's perfect for quick, daily practice without feeling like a chore. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My 5 year old daughter is just starting to learn to read. I was hopefully she would be eager to play with this "toy." Unfortunately, she played with it for just a few minutes before she decided it was time for something else. The idea of it is good, where cards with simple words are presented in the opening, and the child can spin the wheel to view the word to read. However I found that the words on the cards aren't organized by skill/grade lever and some very difficult reading words would be on the same card as some more basic spelling words. That made it discouraging for my daughter. Also, the print is very tiny so it's hard try to teach the spelling by breaking down the words when they are too tiny to work with.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a pre-k child and we are working on getting ready to start kindergarten this year. This is a great tool to have, she is able to change the disc by herself and has willingly been working on sight words independently. I really like that there is a storage box that can attach to the holder and keeps the disc contained. It is very easy to use, you just turn the knobs to get to a new word. The words progressively get more challenging as you move through the numbered disc. The only addition I could possibly suggest is creating add-on packs where we can get additional disc with more words, and possibly some type of disc where we can add our own words. Overall I think this is a great tool to use for kids working on sight words. We can use it together or independently, and it helps that the kid is able to focus on one word at a time.

She really appreciate the design and how easy it was for her to hold the product. Would definitely recommend!
