"New" Original not the Original

I have always been a big fan and promoter of McCormick's "Original" chili mix. I usually cook from scratch and people used to ask me for my chili recipe, I would always tell them- "no need, it's McCormicks Original". I apparently had enough of the real "Original " left that I only bought the current reformulation a few days ago. It's pretty obvious that like other publicly traded companies in the relentless chase for margin improvement, a simplified ingredient mix means less spices, less taste, less cost and improved margins! Oh well….. The search for a chili mix begins.

Please remove wheat flour from your chili mix and a healthier thickening ingredient like arrow root powder.

The old original was good but I couldnt figure out what was so different about this new original blend but I can tell you this it was not good. I read the ingredients and it just says "other spices" so what that other spice is exactly it could be anything. It tastes like there is cinnamon in there or something which would be gross BAD IDEA. Whatever it is its awful and throws the whole recipe off and you might as well throw the rest out in the trash.

Dont know what went wrong

I made an awesome batch of chili using an older packet of MCormick chili spices and it was awesome- probably two months ago- but the envelope had been in my pantry for a while. My husband asked me to make him a double batch this weekend because it was getting cold and that chili was so darn good. I got two new packets of the spice and purchased 2x the ingredients. Well. I doubled everything and wasted all of my ingredients. I dont know what went wrong. My husband thinks the machine that mixes the spices was off. I think the chili tasted like it had too much cumin in it, but I cant be sure that that was the flavor overload. It tasted bitter and bland at the same time! The chili was darker chocolate color versus the usual color. Please give me the old packets, I have 5 packets of the new stuff and dont like it.

I can't put my finger on it but we, this tasted bad. Bitter, weird...didn't smell good while simmering as it used to. Was worried maybe the meat was off but that wasn't it. I won't buy this again. Disappointed, I usually love McCormick products.

I made shredded chicken in my crock pot to use for Tacon night with my family. I work many hours, so my time is limited. Instead of using all the ingredients listed, I used McCormick original Chili mix with brown sugar, paprika, salt and pepper. My family loved it and could not get enough of it. It was absolutely delicious. It is such a wonderful cooking hack and time saver. Saves on the clean up too!!! Give it a try, you are going to love it!!!!

I have used McCormick mild Chili mix for years. Recently stocked up on some extra. Made a huge pot with several pounds of lean ground beef. It was awful, over done on the strong garlic flavor. Ate some but could stand it and the rest went in the trash. The new packets went in the trash also. Will buy some chili powder and work up a recipe from scratch.

I used the 'original' mix for years and we all loved it. This new 'original' mix is terrible. It is too 'hot' for our palette. Did you ever hear the phrase, 'If it ain't broke, don't fix it"?

WAY to salty

I noticed that all of the more favorable reviews are at least 2 to 3 years old. The unfavorable reviews are all within the last year. This should tell you something. I had won several chili cook-offs with the old recipe but was very disappointed with this packet. It was a salt bomb! Needless to say, I will be looking for another seasoning product for the next cook-off.
