I've had this for a little over a year and thought it was going to be an integral part of my tool kit. In fact, it's the worst nailer I've ever used. Heavy hole for a pin gun, shoots maybe 1-in-10 pins correctly and without jamming. The worst thing is since this is a fine finish gun, those failures are impacting high-end cabinetry and wood projects. I've ditched it entirely. Better to know an 18g will go correctly and have a single hole to correct than to shoot 10 holes and still have no fastener.

I have barely shot 20 nails and it has jammed 10 times with one time breaking the pin. I now have a new pin and same problem. Junk. I own several hitachi guns both air and 18v with not issues. This however has a major design flaw. Stay away.

I recently purchased the Metabo HPT NP18DSALT 18V MultiVolt™ Cordless Compact 23-Gauge Pin Nailer for a project that involved installing 3/4" solid oak, and while the tool has a lot of great features, it didn't quite live up to my expectations of Metabo HPT tools. The brushless motor is efficient, and with the 3.0Ah battery, I was able to drive up a few hundred pins per one charge without any issues, making it ideal for longer sessions. The built-in counterweight helped minimize recoil, and the no-push safety tip ensured a clean finish with minimal marring. I also appreciated the tool-less depth of drive adjustment, which allowed for precise flush drives. The high-luminance LED light was helpful, especially when working in low-light conditions, and the soft grip handle made the tool comfortable to hold during extended use. However, despite these positive features, I’ve encountered some significant issues with this nailer. After using it for several months, I’ve found that it frequently misfires and jams. I’ve only used Metabo HPT’s 23-gauge nails and made sure the rails were clean to avoid any feed issues, but I still faced problems with the nailer jamming and breaking the nail sets after multiple tries. One frustrating issue is the anti-dry-fire safety feature, which stops the tool from firing when there are only about 5 nails left in the magazine. This causes wasted nails since I can’t load a fresh strip behind them without triggering a feed jam. When a jam does occur, clearing it isn’t quick or easy. It requires removing four screws, two plates, and the non-marring tip, which is time-consuming and annoying. I also found the LED light to be nearly useless. It’s so dim that you can barely see it unless you’re working in complete darkness. While the tool is light, compact, and easy to use, the constant misfires and jams make it difficult to rely on for regular, heavy-duty work. For a tool that’s supposed to help with precision tasks like fine carpentry, these reliability issues are a major drawback. On the plus side, the battery life is fantastic. I haven’t needed to recharge the battery after about 200 nails, and it still shows a full charge. The fact that the tool comes with two different non-marring tips is a nice touch, and the built-in 3mm hex key holder is convenient when I need to perform quick maintenance. Overall, when the nailer works, it performs well. But with the frequent jams, misfires, and issues with the anti-dry-fire feature, I can’t recommend it for anyone who needs a reliable tool for professional or frequent use. I’ve struggled with it enough that I’m considering switching to a different brand on this particular tool, especially now that other cordless options are hitting the market. For the price, I expected a tool that wouldn’t give me these headaches, and sadly, I don’t think I’d buy it again. I hope Metabo HPT considers feedback on this tool and re-engineers from the bottom up on this tool.

I had high hopes for this tool when I bought it. Light weight, maneuverable good battery history and I really like the Metabo HPT brand. First couple of times I used it worked really well, but then it started to jam, would clear it and it would jam again. Thought I loaded the tool wrong or had some bad pins. Got new pins and still jams. Became a shoot one and jam on the second, got frustrated and haven't used it again.

This is the worst battery powered pin nailer I have ever used. I only use Metabo brand pin nails in it as recommended, but it double feeds and jams about every third shot. I spend more time clearing jams than actually nailing anything and waste over a quarter of a pack of nails. Save your time, money, and sanity and buy any other brand of cordless pin nailer.

The worst 23g cordless pin nailer I've ever had. Constant misfires, I'm getting around a 90% misfire rate. Can shoot one or two pins before I have to open the nails up and reposition. Will be returning to where I bought it and demanding a full refund. Nothing seems broken, it's a few months old with hardly any use. Can't fire small strips, but putting a full strip of nails in it will break the strip in half after a few shots, thus making both strips useless. Can't fire when there's less than 30 nails in, and can't fire when using multiple small sets of nails, completely worthless

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] bought this for some small work around the house. the nail works great 99% of the time. I did noticed that it wont shot nails sometimes but I am not sure if its the nails of the gun. the kick might be breaking the fragile glued nails in the cartridge and it will stop shooting. might need to try other nails to test. other than that. great gun

I have had this for a few years and it has been constant frustration. For every one good nail I get three jams. To make it worse, there is no quick release to clear the jams. You must unscrew 4 screws to do so and of course screw 4 back in. Meanwhile, glue is drying and wood is shifting while trying to get a nail in to hold it together. Often you will find 3 or more pins jammed together and there is no easy way to tell it is not working as firing the gun leaves a small hole in the wood, regardless if it has fired correctly. I have other Hitachi/Metabo nailers and tools that work flawlessly and I expected the same quality for this pin nailer. I can no longer use this product as makes every project a nightmare.

Not even worthy of the junk pile. Load one stick of metabo 1” 23 ga pin nails. Fired three good nails to adjust the depth. Started jamming every couple nails. So I went and bought 1 3/16” metabo pin nails. Jammed the first nail. I am a professional contractor and this is not acceptable. I spend more time that afternoon clearing double fired nails that jammed than I did installing the baseboards. I wish that day I didn’t decide to bring my air and trusty guns. Only get burned once. Had to go back on my own time and finish the job.

Avoid this product. I bought my first and had to return it because of excessive jams and it finally quit all together. I bought a second because I have other 18v metabo tools that work well. The second one jams constantly requiring disassembly to correct. I use Metabo brand pins. Metabo obviously expects it to jam because they include a 3mm allen wrench housed on the body needed for disassembly. The wrench won't stay attached and I am now on my 3rd replacement wrench. If you purchase make sure you keep a small metal pick handy to remove all of the jammed pins. Better yet, do your self a favor and don't buy.

Great nailer. Way better than my hf air nailer. I was a little worried about the reviews that said it would get gummed up from the glue that held the nails together. To prevent this I just sprayed some super slick stuff in the chamber and have had no issues so far. This nailer works as well as my other 16 and 18 gauge hitachi cordless nailers. It eats whatever pin nails you have in stock. These nailers are the best. I even bought the metabo framing nailer for a future project. If you don't have this in your tool arsenal you are missing out.
