Review Quotes

Have you ever met a know-it all? What if there were two in close proximity to each other? Goose and Moose live opposite each other and are in constant competition. "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better" is their mantra. They yell insults at each other because they both think they are the best at everything. Their competitions lead to disastrous results for them which are comic for the readers. Goose's parents try to encourage the two to make up and get along. Moose and Goose are so indignant about that idea that they decide to show their parents. To that end they compete to see who can build the biggest house. Unfortunately their houses are so big and unwieldy that they fall off the side of the cliff and into the sea. Finally, when they realize they are stuck on the beach below together, they realize they will have to cooperate to get out of the mess they've created. Once they do this, their parents give them tools to rebuild their big houses. Instead, they build one strong bridge so they can visit each other. Unbeknownst to the characters they have similar tastes-houses, tractors, even their parents dress similarly. Good choice for illustrating the theme of cooperation and friendships and excessive competitiveness. Could be useful to read to squabbling siblings. Recommended for use with a social emotional theme or unit. Illustrations have a pastel ethereal quality to them that are inviting to readers.--Children's Literature "Children's Literature" (10/16/2023 12:00:00 AM)
