Q: Is the new orange scent from an essential oil or is in synthetic?

submitted by Aubs - 1 year ago
  • A: The orange scent comes from a sachet that holds food-grade fragrant beads and helps neutralize undesirable odors. In this product it is used to help mask the fishy odor that the DHA in the product may produce. The benefits of Nature Made Prenatal softgels are not impacted and will continue to support baby's development and mom's overall health.† † These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Q: Why was there a small container with carbon inside my prenatal pill bottle?

submitted by - 6 years ago
  • A: The carbon canister is a desiccant. The canister retains moisture from the inside of the pill bottle and absorbs the odor from the pills. In this product it is used to help control the fishy odor that the DHA in the product may produce. The benefits of Nature Made Prenatal softgels are not impacted and will continue to support baby's development and mom's overall health.† † These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Q: Why does this have both iron and calcium when calcium literally blocks the absorption of iron? I had to get an iron infusion last pregnancy meanwhile thought I was getting iron daily with my prenatal!

submitted by Dryhair - 12 days ago
  • A: Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Nature Made Prenatal + DHA product. We understand your concern and appreciate the opportunity to clarify. While it’s true that calcium can inhibit iron absorption when taken in large amounts at the same time, our formulation is carefully designed to balance both nutrients in a way that supports the unique needs of pregnancy. Iron is essential for supporting increased blood volume and preventing anemia, while calcium plays a critical role in the development of your baby’s bones, teeth, and muscles.

Awful flavor🤢

The unscented version of these prenatals was my go to for months. I, like many, didn’t realize that the product was changed to include a citrus flavoring until I opened the bottle and gagged. I’ve been looking everywhere for the unscented version. Please bring it back.

I am so unbelievable happy that they are orange scented. Prenatals smell awful and are hard to take, especially when you’re experiencing morning sickness. Game changer.

Class-action lawsuit filed citing this product

Only after reading so many reviews and doing more research did I discover there was a class action lawsuit filed in the Spring of 2025 citing this specific product. The lawsuit is still active but I’d rather not wait to find out if the allegations of “cancer, birth defects, and other reproductive harm” are in fact true. Unfortunately, I’ve been taking these vitamins throughout my first trimester and came to this website to find more information about ingredients only to stumble on this.

I actually love the taste and smell of the citrus everyone seems to complain about. It’s so much better than most of the other prenatals that leave the most awful fishy taste in your mouth.. yall are something else though lol just drink it with something flavored and follow it with water - that’s what I did when I hated the taste of a pill.

Scent dissipates

Anonymous - 2 months ago, Verified purchaser
I was worried about the scent but ended up getting them anyway - I barely notice it. I usually set it out on my desk for 15-30 minutes before I get around to taking it, so maybe the scent dissipates by then? If you use a pill minder then I think there would be no scent left at all, by the time you take it...

I was not thrilled with the orange scent when I first bought the product. After a few weeks, I went to take another vitamin and the bottle smelled rancid, like rotten fish. The vitamin left a horrible taste in my mouth. Really sad considering I spent a decent amount of money, and Nature Made had always been my gold standard supplement brand.

I’ve been using Nature Made prenatals for a while and was really happy with the original formulation, but unfortunately, I’m not a fan of this new version. The orange smell and taste are pretty unpleasant, it’s hard to get past it. I’m not sure why they felt the need to change a formula that was already working so well. Sadly, I’ll have to switch to a different brand now. Really disappointed with this update.

The new orange flavor is awful. I can barely take the pills without gagging. Not only that, but I seemed to get stomach cramping after taking them. I originally thought that something was wrong with my bottle since a foul smell came from it, but then I saw that it had changed to orange flavor. Really hope the unflavored version comes back because it was easy to ingest during my first pregnancy.

I spent a lot of time researching different prenatals and ultimately landed on this one because: it checks the most boxes for nutrients (versus having to supplement with 5-6 other nutrients/minerals) and the dosage is just 1 pill per day. I only have to remember to take it once and that's it. Also I see a lot of people don't like the orange scent, but I love it! The orange scent is the only thing saving me from nausea.

Scent = hormone issues

I have taken these vitamins for years, and now have to switch due to the new orange scent. I don’t mind the smell itself but I am worried about the potential hormone disruption impacts from ingredients used to create the scent (which is not clear). As a woman looking to have more children, this addition is deeply concerning from an health perspective considering hormones play an huge factor in fertility, and this just seems unnecessary for a prenatal. Please bring back the unscented version.
