These refritos are just too soupy and don't resemble the picture on the label.. I almost tossed them out as soon as opened, but thought heating might make a difference. They don't taste bad, but I could do without the additional seasonings. So much for refried beans with my green chile tonight.

I normally don't buy this brand of refried beans, and I never will again! The whole can is thin and watery. Yuck. Really? are they trying to save money by adding all that water to beans??

I love refried beans. As I recall these used to be good. But when I cooked a can today, and licked the spoon, I was immediately repulsed. It tasted like melted plastic. I checked the expiration date, still good until August of 2023. I thought maybe it was just me, had my mother taste it, and she thought the same thing. Something is seriously off. I cooked them and thought..maybe that's just how they taste cold. Nope, still disgusting. As I see in your reviews, literally no one is happy with these changes you made based on so-called customer polls. I guess I haven't had it since you changed recipes? But I guarantee you the majority of the consumers did not request for it to taste like plastic chemicals. Due to overwhelming consumer demands, perhaps change this new recipe. Until then I will no longer be a consumer, and I will let everyone know. Thanks!

Bought a large can last week. So runny ( llike baby ****) had to add rice to even spoon the mix onto anything... Usually think they are pretty bland, but this does it for me. Will make my own beans from now on..

Awful Traditional Refried Beans

We bought Refried Beans to use as a layer on our Nachos. It’s usually thick and has lots of beans. This can was a watery, sloppy mess. I stirred up from the bottom but it made no difference. It was a loose paste with very few beans. I looked online and noticed that El Paso brand had a recall for this product in October 2022 for possible botulism and was concerned we had just eaten contaminated beans. Then I went to the website and noticed many customers complaining about watery new recipe refried beans, so I’m assuming that was the problem. We won’t be buying El Paso Brand again and we have used them for years.

Watered Down

I've been using old El Paso products forever but the last few times I bought the refried beans, they have been disgusting. When you 1st open the can there's like an inch of water on top. I drain the water out and then fry them in a pan and add onion. No matter how long I cook them they stay super runny. The addition of onion doesnt help the flavor as it normally would. I figured if I'd add a small amount of enchilada sauce it may and give it some flavor, but no luck and it didnt help the consistency. I won't buy these again. If i could give zero stars I would. I still have 4 cans, and I'll be donating them. Goya brand it is.

I am a long time purchaser of Old Elpaso traditional refried bean. Lately the beans are watery and do not thicken up. Terrible product now for bean burritos.

Rotten poop smelling refried beans

I just bought 2 cans of old el paso refried beans for toastadas tonight and wow. The whole family about gaged. They smell like poop. The expiration date is Aug2024 so why are they rotten? Did they grind up a rat carcass or something or are their employees actually sh#$ing in the beans??? Apparently there is no quality control of their product despite whatever claims they make. I'll NEVER buy this brand ever again.

Metallic taste

I wasn't sure what the issue was. I thought maybe it was some. But now I am thinking it's these beans. I ate a good amount of a can last night and got super sick within seconds and needed to use the restroom. Later that night and all of today all I can taste is a metallic taste. I am not starting to think it's from these!

The change of recipe failed!

My family has been buying Old El Paso ingredients for taco night for nearly 40 years. I realize things change and I have noticed that change over the years. But never has it been so drastic, aka bad, as it is now! I purchased 6 cans of Traditional Refried Beans and didn't notice the new stamp on the label boasting "Made with Real Spices". It wasn't until I opened the can and noticed the smell was definitely different, then heated it up and ate it on my burrito, that I realized something was WAY off! It tasted like literal poop! At that point, I looked at the can and noticed the new stamp on the label. That's when I realized "great! they've changed it again!" Fortunately, I still had older cans in my pantry to compare it to and sure enough it is different! The new labeled beans have 20 more calories than before, 1g more of fat, and it went from 0g sat. fat to now .5g sat fat! 10mg more sodium, and 3g LESS dietary fiber! The only positive difference is you get 1g more of protein. You also get less iron and the potassium went from 750mg down to 290mg! When you go over to ingredients, one thing I know is that the first 3-5 ingredients are going to be the main ingredients in foods. On both cans, Cooked Pinto Beans and water are the first 2 ingredients, however, the old can then went on with salt, tomato paste, sea salt... the new can lists LARD as the next ingredient! Not once but TWICE! Old El Paso- not sure what you have going on in your kitchens, but this tasted awful and left me with an upset stomach! I don't typically write reviews, but I felt that since you are now losing a lifelong customer, you should know why. Today, I will be returning the 5 remaining cans that I recently purchased back to the store for a refund. I'm aware that this one customer may not make the difference to your bottom line, but I hope that in getting this review you take into consideration that cutbacks should not come at the cost of the quality of your products.

What the heck?! I've been buying Old El Paso Refried Beans for forever. I went to the grocery store yesterday and bought two cans. Both were runny when I opened them. The taste was adequate but not like before. Hard to make beef/bean burritos when the refried beans are like soup. I see by other reviews this has been going on for a long time. Guess I'll buy another brand unless you can up your game and bring back the refried beans like they were before. As info, my cans were marked with 230 and expiration date of 21 Jan 2024
