Summary of reviews
The toothbrush has received mixed feedback from guests, with many praising its cleaning ability and comfort, especially for those with sensitive gums. However, the recent design changes, particularly the smaller brush head, have disappointed some users who feel it is less effective. The indicator feature for replacing the brush is a highlight, making it easier for guests to maintain their oral hygiene. Overall, it remains a popular choice for its effectiveness and affordability.

If Oral-B is trying to save money by reducing the head size...please don't. I'll pay you the extra money for a normal size brush that works properly in an adult's mouth. On top of that, the bristles have changed and they are now fraying and getting caught in my teeth. I've never had Oral-B bristles start to fray and bend off of the brush and get stuck in my teeth EVER. I want a good toothbrush and I'll pay for it. I have already started looking elsewhere for other brands. So sad.

JR, we're so sorry to hear the bristles have been falling out, and getting stuck in your teeth, and would like to help. Please know, we have many quality and safety checks in place to ensure our products are safe to use as directed, and that they reach you in top condition. Based on your experience, we recommend you discontinue using this toothbrush, and ask that you hold onto it, in the event our team would like to collect it. We did recently change the amount of tufts of bristles from 40 to 35 in these toothbrushes, however, we do still offer many toothbrushes with 40 tufts. So that we can help you find a new favorite, please give us a call at (800) 566-7252.

I came here to write a review about the smaller head and realize I’m not the first to feel disappointed. The new design is much smaller- feels like a kid’s toothbrush to me. See photo below of the new model on the left and the old model on the right.

Looks like the toothbrush industry has headed the same direction as the food industry has... make it smaller charge more money. In this case though the brush is less effective, time for a new brush after many years!

Jeff, we're so sorry to hear you're unhappy with our Indicator Contour Clean toothbrushes, and that they're not cleaning your teeth as well as you'd hoped for. Please know, we have many quality checks in place to ensure only the best products reach you. We recently decreased the number of tufts in our Indicator toothbrushes, but would expect them to still offer you the same great clean you'd come to know and expect. My teeth feel very clean after using one of these toothbrushes. My last toothbrush was slightly fancier, but I think I prefer this new one. It’s a bit smaller so it’s easier for me to reach the back of my mouth.

This toothbrush has, historically, been more or less the same in design, for about a decade. At some point, in recent months, the design has been changed and has been made infinitely worse. The brush is too small in length and width, now. The bristles are too stiff and irritate the gums. The bristles are not maleable enough press the brush in any way that could circumvent the design. The shape of the brush's bristles make it more difficult to scrub your teeth. It just hurts to use, lol. I don't know why Oral B would change their design, but it's genuinely such a terrible change, and I wouldn't recommend it at all, now. Buyers beware.
1 reply from Oral-B team - 8 months ago
Thanks for the review, Tess. As a loyal fan of our Indicator Manual Toothbrushes, we're sorry your recent experience wasn't to your liking. Know that whenever we desgin or change our products, we do extensive consumer research and quality testing to ensure you're getting the very best Oral-B has to offer. Also, because safety is at the heart of everything we do, we recommend that you discontinue further use of these brushes since they irritated your gums. Please give us a call at (800) 566-7252, so we can gather a little more information and help make this right for you.

Purcased these based on the positive reviews here and elsewhere. The brush portion is so small in both length and width that I'd swear these were childrens tooth brushes. Took me twice as long to brush.

We're sorry to hear this toothbrush was smaller than you'd like, and would like to help. We have a variety of toothbrushes available, and would be happy to find one that meets your needs. So that we can help further, please give us a call at (800) 566-7252.

These are the perfect toothbrushes for my sensitive gums, as well as the perfect size. So many of the others I’ve purchased are too big and I end up banging the hard surface against my teeth, or scraping my gums too hard and they bleed. These Oral-B’s are just right. And at a good price is a bonus. I definitely recommend them.

The four pack used to be yellow bristles, with blue indicator bar and used to be larger. These are the tiniest toothbrushes. The brush head is not sized for an adult.

Shani - 10 months ago, Verified purchaser
I loved these toothbrushes and purchased many times when the brush head was yellow and bigger. When I went to purchase a new pack, the bristles were blue and the brush head was smaller. It was about the same size as a kid’s toothbrush.
1 reply from Oral-B team - 10 months ago
Shani, we know how important it is to find a toothbrush you love, and would like to help. In July of 2023, we changed the amount of bristles, making the toothbrush slightly smaller. We'll be sure to let our team know you're not a fan. So that we can help you find a new favorite, please give us a call at (800) 566-7252.
Accumulate mold at base of bristles

Sara - 11 months ago, Verified purchaser
I bought these to see if the indicator works. Not even a few weeks of using them did I notice black mold growing at the base of the bristles. I have never had mold grow on my toothbrushes before. I rinse them and have a tooth brush holder to allow them to dry out. Not a good product.

We’re sorry to hear this has been your experience with your Oral-B Indicator Color Collection Toothbrush. Our brushes go through many quality checks to ensure they reach you in perfect condition, so we wouldn’t expect to hear this. What you’re likely seeing is build-up of toothpaste and water from regular use. This residue may be colored depending on your toothpaste and water hardness. Though unsightly, this substance is not harmful, and can be removed with a thorough cleaning. We have plenty of brush cleaning tips that we’d be happy to offer, and we’d like to learn more about your experience so we can help you further. Please give us a call at 1(800) 566-7252.

These are my favorite toothbrushes, but the quality of the rubber on the handle could be better. It peels every time and I have to trim it.

Oral-B is a well known brand. Unfortunately, "well known" is not synonymous with "well designed" or "well made". The indicator for when to change the brush appears like it may be accurate (i.e. every 3 mouths), but it's useless if the handle starts falling apart in the second month. Yes, the handle stated falling apart. The handle has rubber attached to its sides to help you grip the toothbrush. Ironically, this rubber has a hard time gripping the toothbrush itself. I may be able to glue the rubber and toothbrush back together again, but that would be silly. It makes more sense to use duct tape, because the duct tape would at least give me a good story.

We're so sorry that your toothbrush handle has fallen apart, and are happy to help. Please know, we have many quality checks in place to help ensure only the best products reach you, and it sounds as though your recent purchase isn't up to our quality standards. So that we can help you further, please give us a call at (800) 566-7252.

This toothbrush is exactly what you’d expect it to be. It gets the job done. The Bristles are really strong. Has a tongue scrubber on the back of it so that’s beneficial.

I like Oral Bs toothbrushes. I feel like they are pretty simple and to the point and inexpensive. They provide a fairly good clean so not much to complain about. There’s just not anything that spectacular or outstanding about them. Still a solid company though.
