DOOR LOCK DEFECTIVE - BUYER BEWARE

After a power outage, the door lock engaged and could not be disengaged no matter what we tried. We tried the following multiple times: "Door Open" button, the child lock disable procedure (Defrost>Timer>Popcorn), "Stop/Reset" button three times, and leaving the microwave unplugged for some time before plugging it back in and repeating the aforementioned procedures to no avail. Food was locked inside the microwave until we were able to get a piece of malleable, flat metal strap and shimmy the door latch open from the bottom. Microwave was good for about four months before this occurred. This door lock issue appears to be commonplace, so this item should be recalled. Besides that, the buttons are programmed poorly and not easy to use. For example, when you press a number like "1" on most other microwaves, it automatically sets a 1 minute cook time. This one requires you to enter "1, 0, 0" for 1 minute. The only good thing is this microwave heats food quickly and evenly. Such a shame that it turns into a brick because of a faulty door lock mechanism. AVOID!

Yes. It did lock my food in. I tried all ways to get it open (Internet and a chat with Panasonic). No luck. Why is there a microwave that can do that.

The door latch is truly substandard.

We spent some time and energy researching microwave ovens to replace our one that had done good service for several years. We decided to purchase the Panasonic 1.2 cu ft Inverter model beause of the reviews about the Inverter technology. We were a bit concerned about comments about the poor performance of the latch door, but were certain we could use the mirowave without slamming the door reoutinely. Unfortunately, the latch problem was severe and the microwave has failed in less than a month even with gentle use. Recently, door lock & freeze-up has been happening frequently. First use early this morning it is much worse: 1st use in AM: quick 30 sec, started fine, pushed stop, and door LOCK icon now shows. This happened automatically, even after we had disarmed the child lock & worse the proper disable-lock-sequence failed. Door cannot be opened. Tried 2 reset fixes: First (>reset 3 times) doesn’t work. Second (>Dfrst>Timer>Popcn) won’t allow 2nd of 3 touches in this seq. seizes after 1st). Third: Unplug, replug, reset = AOK, door opens. That same total failure happened again a short time later. Our frustration is considerable.

I do not recommend! 😐

This microwave was great until the lock feature prevented it from being opened. We bought it in June 2025 and now it's July 2026 and I don't understand how it can start malfunctioning this quickly. Not to mention that this locking mechanism is not a necessary feature. I regret this purchase and will not be buying ANY PANASONIC microwaves again!

DON'T buy this microwave!

DON'T buy this microwave! The door latch release broke almost immediately on two microwaves I purcased. I tried to fix the first one and broke a piece off the door latch release. I ordered another one and it too broke on the first use. I only bought this model because of a Wirecutter review. I was attracted to the low price, but I guess you get what you pay for. Hoping others read this and don't waste their money like I did.

Was highly rated but we bought it on May 13 and by June 9th it no loger works. The display shows error code "H98" which means "the oven's power supply has failed." Called support and now we have to get it serviced at an authorized service center. Luckily it was still under warranty
