See above! The poorest sound quality I have ever heard as an audiologist!
Sound is distant and muffled.

I bought a brand new pair of these, plugged them into my laptop correctly. They work but the sound is extremely muffled, bassy and distant. As if there was a blanket over the source of the sound. This is audible both in music, speech and video games. Note that I tested my laptop and there is nothing wrong with it. New updated drivers, sound works as intended. They do feel comfortable and easy to wear and use.
They work but are quite hard to deal with

So, I got these as a gift a month ago and they work fine, my complaint is that they seem to only work as intended if the jack is at the right angle, if they are not they will only produce sound in the left speaker. they also seem to have a tendency to slip out a bit causing the noise to be muffled. I have a feeling that it could just be my laptop getting used to a new pair of headphones. I don't know about how well the mic works as I haven't had a chance to try it.
Loud background hissing with microphone

I have tried changing volume levels and using the individual jacks rather than the combined jacks. It makes no difference at all. The background hissing is so loud that you can hardly hear me speak. And no, my plug socket is earthed, so it's not that either. Not impressed at all.

Hello Nomicrophone, thanks for writing this review about your headphones. This product has a double jack, one of is supposed to go into the PC/laptop's microphone socket and the other to the headphone socket. If you are hearing a hissing noise then it would be a great idea to test them with a different laptop/PC and if the hissing persists then you are more than welcome to get in touch with us. I have been using this headset for many years now, the sound has always been good (keep in mind I'm not much of an audiophile) as well as the mic. It has had its fare share of issues though. For example, when it was brand new, or new-ish, it used to de-adjust de height of the headphones, which was really annoying to be honest. As well as with the mic, they would simply fall down. But, with a little bit of duct tape, both issues where resolved inmediatly. Apart from those issues of design (perhaps the reason of the low cost of this headset) it has been incredible, and very long lasting. Now, after some years of use (6 if I recall correctly), the left side has stopped working ( :'( ) and I'm thinking of buying this particular one again, that shows how much I love it.

Volume control removed from wire?

As a YouTuber I have used this headset for a while, however after now deciding to return to YouTube I found when using the microphone there's a hum / buzzing sound so I think they are now faulty. (I've had them 2-3 years) So I went to replace them today with an identical pair. I'm appauled to find they no longer have the volume control on the wire!? Despite these being the exact same model number as the ones I have already. (SHM1900/00) I have not yet found another pair of headphones that are adequate enough and I'm very unhappy at Philips for removing a vital piece off this headset. I will be looking at another brand to use for my YouTube gaming channel as well as doing a video review on my replacement pair.
