Loved this book. I read it in 3 days. Many of her books are like that. She is an excellent author. I wish Target carried all of her books in stores.

The first half of the book was quite slow and made me wonder when the story in Leningrad was going to start. It was worth it to continue reading as the second half and the ending was amazing and so well written.

One of Kristin's Best
After reading the nightingale and four winds I was aching for another good read. It seemed like Winter Garden was slow to start, but it is seriously almost as good as nightingale. Arguably better. It’s an amazing story. I cried many times, happy and sad tears. Love this book and love the author so much !!!!

Beautiful story about how life shapes who we become as a person and parent.
This is such a beautiful story about the relationship between mother and daughters. As children, it’s easy to forget that our parents had a life before our memories and that life shaped who they became. Meredith and Nina have never been close to their mom. They always felt like she was distant and unfeeling. When their beloved dad passes away, he makes his wife promise to tell her story and his daughters to listen to it. The result is compassion, love, and respect for the mom and a new found relationship for the daughters.

A Beautiful Story
WWII historical fiction; alternating timeline; trigger warnings below Winter Garden is a beautiful story about a dysfunctional mother & daughter relationship and the discovery of a hidden past. This story is full of complex characters drama, and heartache. As expected with any Kristin Hannah novel, this story will rip your heart open in the most marvelous way. I really enjoyed the story within a story that existed in this book, using the alternating timeline. I greatly appreciated how the “story” was italicized, giving the past its own voice throughout the book. While the overall storyline seemed a bit unrealistic, I enjoyed watching the story unfold. Audiobook Thoughts: I adored that the narrator gave the story of the past a Russian accent, really bringing that story to life and helping to differentiate the two parts of the story. Trigger Warning: War, Death, Starvation, Death of a Child, Grief
