Q: Are these solid or do these splinter?
submitted by AtheG - 7 months ago
A: Because these are all natural horns there is a chance of splintering. Recommended if this product splinters or develops sharp edges, throw it away immediately for your pet's safety.
submitted byHank - 6 months ago
Q: what are the dimensions of this?
submitted by K9zetc - 3 years ago
A: These are about 5-6" but since these are all natural, they will come in various lengths due to their shape.

Quality
Absolutely the best chew toy I bought my dogs. They actually fight over the same one even though they’re both have one. Also a good price.

More pros than cons for us
Pros: Last forever, they’re cheap, my dogs love them and don’t get tired of them. I’ve had two for about a year now. Cons: They stink when they chew on them, they have the ability to crack teeth since they’re quite hard but hasn’t happened to my dogs.

Cracked my dogs tooth
My dog loved this immediately. The next day I noticed she had a loose tooth in the back. I took her to the vet and she had cracked her first molar, the strongest teeth in a dog's mouth. She had to go into surgery for extraction and my vet bill was $400 😭

My 70-pound dog loved this and chewed on the curled end of horn. But the second day when she was chewing on it, we noticed she has broken a lower front tooth and a jaw tooth!!!! It's a trip to the vet
Broke my dog's teeth!

Like a deer antler, but more cost friendly
Love these! If you’re buying, there are 2 types I’ve seen in stores. Ones with a hollow center, and one that is a filled horn. The ones with the hollow middle WILL splinter for tough chewers. I have 2 of the horns and my dogs love them. About to go get a 3rd!

Not for aggressive chewers.
One bite and broke into little pieces. Definitely not made for aggressive chewers.

Dog chew
Recently got a dog with the strongest chew drive I’ve ever witnessed. She loves this and it has held up well. Other reviews do say it splinters so I’ll be watching her closely and only giving it to her supervised but very satisfied with the quality for the cost so far!

SPLINTERS!!!
Was great at first. Then my GSD started chewing the outer layer off about 2wks later, and it started splintering. I noticed it too late, after she started gagging and threw up to get the splinters out of her throat. I will buy the more expensive Elk Antlers they don’t splinter

Packaging problem
The first time I bought Hornz, I was very glad to find and affordable, long-lasting chew toy for my dogs -- I would have given them a well-deserved five-star rating. Unfortunately, the packaging has changed, and a hole is drilled in the tip of each horn to affix the brand tag/sales information. This has reduced the structural integrity of the bone and increased bone splintering. The company still has an OK product, but be sure to keep an eye on your pet when they are chewing. This is an unfortunate change in packaging, but is admittedly less post-consumer waste. Isn't there some other way for Hornz to be packaged that won't damage the bone's durability?

Stinky but Amazing!
My dog loves this and chews on it for a long time. She hasn’t had any issues with splinters or anything weird. The only bummer is that it smells absolutely horrendous. Imagine a dead carcass mixed with burnt hair and a bully stick. Other than that, it’s great! My dog highly recommends!

better for lighter chewers
Not terrible. My 2 year old Malinois/ Doberman obliterated it in less than 5 minutes.

Ollie is a huge fan!
My dog LOVES this horn. I purchased it for him because he really loves hooves that I get at the specialty pet store. This horn is huge. He chews on it all the time and hasn’t gotten much off. It does slightly splinter but I just watch him as he’s chewing and take away any pieces that may come off. Smell isn’t as bad as a hoof in my opinion. It’s not pleasant but it’s not terrible.

My dogs move these
Both my silver Lab and Italian greyhounds love these. They last longer than any other chew toy/treat.
