A: I have purchased two of these mats and they are in two different locations. I didn't buy the second mat until I had used the first one for a handful of months. My dog, Raddles, is 90lbs and splashes water every time he drinks. I have not had a single issue with the water puddles Raddles leaves behind soaking through the mat to my hardwood floors. Because I've had issues with other pet food/water mats, I initially placed paper towels under the mat. I did this for 8-10 weeks and never did I notice the paper towels underneath had gotten wet. I see a few people have had the rubber backing and the woven plastic(?) top separate. To avoid this, based upon my experience, I would make sure the mat is not put in a place on the floor where the sun shines through a window and hits the mat. The direct exposure and heat from the sun, especially through a glass window, is enough to cause ANY mat made of two layers glued together to separate. After using my first mat for several months, I would not have purchased a second mat if I wasn't perfectly happy with the first. My dog was so messy with his water that I was using one of those large, rectangular hard plastic trays designed to put wet snow boots on to catch the water in the tray as the snow melts. THIS mat is much more attractive and very reasonably priced.
