Praise for A Is for Awesome!:

A Publishers Weekly Bestseller!

That theme of swinging for the fences and going for it is the undercurrent in this book. Even though it's about how they're all awesome, the real undercurrent is, 'Look at all these people who are superheroes who are just like you.' I try to tell that to my daughter. --Hasan Minhaj, in Huffpost

An Awesome Book

We love it. I was so disappointed that they did not have the second choice and when I tried to order another book in it place they took to a whole new order.

Good, just beat up

This is a great book for all children and genders, highlighting female leaders and their contributions. Very age appropriate. Much diversity represented. The only concern was the condition of the actual book; the corners and edges were worn out and rubbed down to the white paper underneath. We ordered a second one and it came in the same condition.

Showed up damaged, includes fictional characters, has a truly bad person, and skips 3 letters...

Yeah, I definitely got a used copy, and it appears I'm not the only one. Also, Coco Chanel sympathized with a certain side of Germany during WWII (apparently the term is a curse word). Like, this is a recorded fact. Being fashionable doesn't make you a good person. And it's not like "C" is an uncommon first letter. Clara Barton. Clara Luper. Cecilia Payne. Christa McAuliffe. And the author went with...her? I don't think every person in here would be my first choice, but at first glance, I can at least be okay with the rest. Well, except...let's not forget how it has Venus (the Goddess) for V and NO ONE for X, Y, or Z. Shockingly, there are important women for all letters. It just takes a few seconds to look. Seriously not worth it.

Coco Chanel was not a herione

The quality of the book is fine. It’s a large size with sturdy cardboard pages which is great for little fingers still working on dexterity. My 2 year old likes it quite a bit. But I’m very disappointed by some of the choices the author made. With so many accomplished and worthy women to choose from, I was shocked to find a documented WWII German spy being celebrated by this book. The diversity of women represented could also have been greater. While Black, Native, and Asian women are included, this book features mostly white heroines and no Latina or Pacific Islander representation at all. If you’re looking for true diversity and not just lip service to the greatness of women, skip this book for your kiddos.

AMAZING book!

I have ordered multiple copies, not only for my classroom, but also for fellow teachers. I have given them as baby girl gifts as well. What a great depiction of strong female women everyone should celebrate.

Nice

It’s a easy read for a small child. The last page is so cute, because it has a mirror on the last page with a message.

Great book for toddler boys!

Bought this for my 3.5 year old son and he loves it! It helps him to appreciate women and their achievements. The book is easy to read through, colorful and has a mirror at the end to help him appreciate himself to do great things too! Simply a great book!!

cute

My little one can't read yet, but she knows her letters and can read those from the pages. This book is cute, even parents learned something new. The only weird page is V for Venus - considering she isn't a real person it just doesn't work well within the book. There are plenty of admirable women whose letter starts with V. But we still love this book.

Diverse Book

This book has great illustrations and quotes. I bought this for my son because I want him to see that women of all colors can do amazing things. He’s only 2, so for now he mostly just likes the mirror in the back and the illustrations, but he still sits and listens to me read who each woman is and what they did. He must be understanding something! I love that it has a sentence or two about each woman and a lot of the pages have quotes from them too. If you like this book, check out “She persisted” by Chelsea Clinton and the Vashti Harrison books. This book has more info about the women than the Vashti Harrison books though.

Enjoyed the diverse representation. Read this to my son, especially since it is Women History month. We read and talked about each woman. An easy read and educational source.

Great book

A great book for all ages. My third grader enjoys reading biographies. This book gives a nice introduction to inspiring female leaders and is a good resource to help us choose for additional books that have more content and explanations. Target buy-2-get-1 book offer is always appreciated.

Almost perfect

So I really enjoyed this book overall.. however for letter V... they chose Venus, a mythical goddess. I find that strange. There’s certainly women whose names start with V. I just don’t think Venus, the goddess of love really fits in with the theme of this book.

Baby shower gift!

One of my fav books for elementary, preschool, and toddlers! This book introduces biographies of famous women and does so with Eva Chen’s fantastic fashionable style. The mirror in the back is my kid’s favorite.
