A staple for every bookshelf

I really appreciate this book. It’s digestible and easy to read while getting the point across. It opened up discussion for my 4&5 year old about skin tones and about what’s truly important about people (in this conversation we discussed personalities). I liked the real-life story and suggestions in the back too. It’s important we have these books so we as parents can explain that racism is alive and well, and how to spot it.

End colorism

This is long overdue. This is an excellent way to combat racism worldwide. A change was much needed. When crayons are broken they still color.

Making herstory!

Meet Bellen Woodard, the very FIRST crayon activist! This book is honestly the perfect true story to share with your children and/or class. Join Bellen as she wakes up for school, enjoys the hustle and bustle of the morning rush with her family, and greets her friends in class. The day starts much like the others, a coloring activity with friends in class. When a classmate asks the table for the “skin-color crayon” something unsettles Bellen. She’s heard this question before and it is always answered with a peach color crayon being handed over. Later that night, Bellen brings up the incident with her mother. Talking it through sparks an idea and she develops a plan for the next day at school. It’s amazing how a simple switch in replies can spark a major change! “Which one? Skin can be any number of beautiful colors.” Like a seed planted in early spring this new reply grows throughout Bellen’s class and school. Luckily she doesn’t stop there! This is an amazing read, a true inspirational story that every child needs to hear. Bellen has made history and is changing the world.

Love the love behind More than Peach-WOW!

This book—WOWWW! It’s the remarkable true story of a brilliant girl (the 11yo author) who wanted to bring compassionate change to make her classroom better for everyone in it! And she did! And she then created her own crayon brand and company (More than Peach) to take that impactful change around the whole world! It’s the sweetest story I’ve read this year and I’ve already started sharing copies as gifts for back to school and will be sharing many more for the holidays!
