Haunting And Powerful
House of Hollows was one of those books that I never wanted to end. It had all the dashing danger and intrigue that you’d expect from a story about mysterious sisters. The Grey sisters disappeared as small children. Without a trace. Upon their mysterious return, there are just as many questions. Our story starts after the girls have grown up. We find out that the eldest sister is a famous fashion star who again, mysteriously disappears. At this point your like why do they keep doing this! But stick with it, things are about to get really weird!!!! This supernatural tale is one you need to stick around for. If you like House of Sea and Salt or Small Favors, you’ll love this one! The creepy level is just right and while there are some graphic depictions, it’s an amazing book that you will want to read again. Perfect for the chilly spooky weather!

Creepy but fantastic
Are you ready for a wild ride? Open this book and buckle up... "A door that leads somewhere but now leads somewhere else" Three girls-Iris, Grey, and Vivi go missing as children. When they come back, nothing is the same. This books is delightfully weird and sucks you right in to this mystery world where men are chasing you, flowers bloom in unexpected places, and there are so many secrets to keep track with. From the start, I knew this was going to be a book that I couldn't put down. Sutherland's imagery that is used throughout the book is staggering and I don't know if I ever felt more involved in a book before. The sense of smell is used frequently in this book and creates a mystic and unique twist to descriptions that would be gross otherwise. If you need a book to captivate you and also weird you out, this is it.

Dark. Very dark.
WOW. This book was just plain wow. And not really in a good way, but not in a bad way either. It's not my normal read AT ALL, but the story had me in its grasp the entire time. The cover makes sense now though! First of all, was this a fairytale? Nope. No fairytale-ness in this book. It seemed more like a horror story than anything 'cause this book was DARK. And not, Kingdom of the Wicked kind of deliciously dark, it's as dark as Sharp Objects. With the flowers growing over dead bodies, the whole Between LITERALLY being half-dead and lost things, and the two twists! To me, this seemed more like a thriller with a few fairytale elements than an actual fairytale. I DID enjoy the modern elements. It made me be able to relate to our MCs. I LOVED Vivi's spunk and sense of humor - it added a touch of lightness to the story it DESPERATELY needed. I wish we could have seen more of Grey without me hating her. Iris reminded me so much of myself. I think their powers were an interesting touch as well. It was cool to see how they could manipulate others. I don't really think those powers constituted calling this book a fairytale with all of the gore, mysteries, and death revolving around it. The twist with who the man in the bull skull mask was just WOAH. I mean, it was kind of predictable while I was reading it, but I was REALLY hoping it wouldn't be him. It was a chilling story and while it was good, I did not enjoy it as much as I thought I would.

Morbid, haunting, and utterly compelling
The Hollow Sisters are infamous, having mysteriously vanished for a month ten years ago on New Years Eve. The girls have no memory of this time. Social media has sprouted wild conspiracy theories and obsessive speculation. Iris, the youngest sister, has always struggled with her family's weird reputation and her own strangeness. She just wants to be a normal teenager. When her oldest sister, Grey, a famous model and fashion designer vanishes, Iris and the middle sister Vivi, a musician, go looking for her. Their search involves a horned man, a dead body in Grey's apartment, and strange vegetation growing in weird places. As they investigate further the secrets are revealed and the memories start breaking through. It is dark, unsettling, morbid, creepy, shocking, haunting and impossible to stop reading. The writing is descriptive, lush, evocative and compelling. I thoroughly enjoyed reading House of Hollow. It is perfect for those who love dark, horrific, modern fairy tales and is best read going in blind. I am hoping that Krystal Sutherland writes more books in this world and in this genre. Thank you to Putnam books and Penguin Teen for an advanced reading copy. #HouseofHollow @PenguinTeen @km_sutherland
