Description

About the Book

When ISB Ranger Madison Thorn arrives in Natchez to investigate a white-collar scheme, she has no idea she will be thrown back into the violent crimes division--or that it will get so personal. She'll have to work with her childhood-enemy-turned-handsome-charmer to unravel the clues before it's too late.

Book Synopsis

After being forced to kill an FBI agent gone rogue in self-defense while working in the violent crimes unit for the Investigative Services Branch, ranger Madison Thorn is comfortable with her move to the fraud and cyber division. At least numbers don't lie. So she's less than thrilled when a white-collar crime investigation in Natchez, Mississippi, turns violent. She could also do without being forced to work with former-childhood-enemy-turned-infuriatingly-handsome park ranger Clayton Bradshaw.

When a woman who looks just like Madison is attacked on the same night Madison's grandfather is shot, it becomes clear that there is something much bigger going on here and that Madison herself is in danger. Madison and Clayton will have to work together--and suppress their growing feelings for one another--if they are to discover the truth before it's too late.

USA Today bestselling and award-winning author Patricia Bradley closes out her popular Natchez Trace Park Rangers series with this complex story of family secrets, mixed motives, and learning to trust.

From the Back Cover

She refuses to let someone from her past define her future.
But does she really have a choice in the matter?

After being forced to kill an FBI agent gone rogue in self-defense, ISB ranger Madison Thorn is happy to be working in the fraud and cybercrimes division. At least numbers don't lie. She could also do without being forced to work with former-childhood-enemy-turned-infuriatingly-handsome park ranger Clayton Bradshaw.

When a woman who looks just like Madison is attacked on the same night Madison's grandfather is shot, it becomes clear that there is something much bigger going on . . . and that Madison herself is in danger. Great Series Conclusion!

'Today was not a good day to die.' How's this for an attention grabber? This is the first sentence of Patricia Bradley's newest book, Deception, and it sets the stage for a fascinating story. There are attempted murders, mysterious deaths, the mention of human trafficking, and the possibility of an illegal adoption ring that has been operating in Natchez, Mississippi for many years. Throw in multiple twists and turns, mix with constant danger, and you have a book that's hard to put down. Bradley throws in a lot of deceptive clues to keep readers guessing but she manages to tie them neatly together at the end. All of this intrigue is woven together with a faith message of trust and forgiveness, sweet but tantalizing romance, and a few happy surprises also! This is another feather in Bradley's writing cap and a captivating conclusion to the Natchez Trace Park Rangers series. I recommend Deception to all who enjoy inspirational romantic suspense. I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review.

Deception is book 4 in Patricia Bradley’s Natchez Trace Park Rangers series. While you will see some familiar faces from the previous books, it is not necessary to have read them - although I highly recommend the entire series. Madison Thorn’s white-collar investigation has turned violent and she finds herself partnered with Clayton Bradshaw – former childhood bully – to solve the murder. She quickly finds that her past is buried in more secrets than she knew and Clayton may be just the man she never knew she needed. I loved the book! Bradley does a superb job of filling the plot with twists and turns. The action is edge-of-your-seat from the first page. I won’t share my favorite parts because I don’t want to spoil it but there will definitely be some twists you don’t see coming. It will keep you guessing right up to the end. It was great watching the characters grow throughout the book. Madison is struggling with trust issues from her past and both she and Clayton are struggling to forgive and move forward after past betrayals. They each need to learn to trust God with their past and future. Addiction and grief are also strong themes in the book. Patricia Bradley’s writing is superb, as always. Her plots are well thought out and the book will keep you reading from page one. The characters are also well developed with a sweet romance that slowly build throughout the book. I highly recommend this book to any fan of Christian romantic suspense. I received an ARC copy of this book from the author/publisher and was not required to write a positive review. Secrets and Suspense

You know how your English teacher says the way to read your story is to have a good hook. Well, how about this one? “Today was not a good day to die.” This sure had my attention and the opening scene was not only exciting, but also surprising and wanting to read more. Secrets, corruption, murder, and action had Madison, Clayton, and me all trying to untangle the web of deceit that Madison had been completely unaware of even existed. That is, until someone totally unexpected comes crashing into her life and turns everything upside down. With twists and turns and several false leads, you are sure to want to read this book. Deception is this fourth book in the Natchez Trace Park Rangers series, but can be read as a standalone. I have read the other three books, but there are only cameo appearances from other characters in the series and they are only there to provide assistance and support to Madison and Clayton. I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Revell, and was not required to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.

I am a big fan of books by this author. This book would fall into the romantic suspense category. I think in this novel the romance seems more secondary to the suspense which is not a bad thing. I feel like the crime that is going on is so complex and intriguing that it is not even noticeable that the romance is subtle. There are a lot of twists and turns in this plot. My attention was held from the beginning to the end. The characters are also so well written that I felt like I personally knew them. And the author does a great job setting the scene so that you can picture exactly what is going on. This book was hard to put down. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher.

Hidden Secrets, Murder and Romance

This is a multi-layered story about family, broken relationships, new relationships and forgiveness. Madison Thorne is an ISB Ranger and returns to her home town of Natchez to investigate a white-collar crime. Once there, she is caught up in a vortex of cases, including murder and human trafficking. There are so many characters pretending to be what they are not that it was hard to keep up with all of their secrets and lies, but what a high entertainment factor! The action did not stop from the shooting on the Trace until the very end. The plot was definitely fast-paced and intriguing since I never knew what new twist would be added next. Madison was a sympathetic character with a flagging faith and loss of her ability to trust people, especially men. Clayton, the Ranger who patrols the Trace and an old nemesis of Madison’s, is a character with sin in his past that he is still trying to overcome. He and Madison team up to solve the mysteries and the murder of a relative close to Madison. I liked how the characters were realistically portrayed, with weaknesses that were difficult for them to overcome, but they kept trying. There were definitely some unlikable characters, like Madison’s father who seemed to be controlling and manipulative without caring about his daughter’s feelings at all. My favorite character was a secondary one named Nadine, the housekeeper for Madison’s grandfather, and a wonderful woman who dispensed wisdom just at the right moments. With danger closing in, Madison and Clayton have to solve the cases before they end up being victims, too. This was a race to the finish and had a spark of romance added that was a welcome addition to the story. Fans of romantic suspense will enjoy the trip to Mississippi and the unraveling of the story of deception and discovering the truth. This is a five star romantic suspense novel. National Park Service Ranger Madison Thorn works white collar crimes after a devastating end to a violent crimes case four years prior. Now she is personally facing violence at every turn from an unknown source, and there is no shortage of suspects. Bradley skillfully embeds clues, red herrings, and deep thematic elements in her well-paced plot. She deals with additions and forgiveness in a true-to-life manner in this, her latest release. I have read most every book Bradley has written, and have thoroughly enjoyed each of them, including Deception. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy from Revell via NetGalley without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

I have visited the Natchez Trace in Mississippi (beautiful place by the way) so I had to read this series, and loved it! Sadly this is the last book but can be read as a stand-alone, although you’ll miss lots of great reading if you do. It involved layers and layers of mystery and suspense. Danger, murder, attempted murder, grief and new relationships are just the tip of the iceberg. Madison is a ranger and after a traumatic incident in the violet crimes unit, she transferred to the white collar crimes unit. When she is sent to the Natchez Trace to investigate a series of thefts she unwilling becomes involved in a violet crime that hits close to home. She meets Clayton Bradshaw who is investigating a recent shooting in his job capacity. They team together looking for answers but so much more is involved and than they first realize. Climb aboard a wild ride through the Natchez Trace and I predict you won’t be able to put this novel down until the very end when all is revealed. I never, ever would have guessed the outcome and was blown away by the revelation! I received a complimentary ebook copy of this book from the publisher through the author but was not required to write a review positive or otherwise.

Deception by Patricia Bradley is the fourth book in her Natchez Trace Park Rangers series. When ISB Ranger Madison Thorn travels back to Natchez to investigate a fraud case she has no idea that her life will be threatened. Working with Ranger Clayton Bradshaw, her childhood friend, it’ll be a race against time to find the shooter before he makes good on his threat. This was definitely a page-turner. You were kept guessing through-out the story. Madison was a very strong lady and handled everything thrown at her with strength and courage. I received this book from the publisher for my honest review.

Loved the authentic characters, the storyline and could not stop reading until I finished at 2am! Deception by author Patricia Bradley is an excellent story. I think it might just be my favorite of hers yet! I highly recommend it! Deception is the final novel of her “Natchez Trace Park Rangers” series which I have followed from the beginning. Each book can be read as a standalone, but many of the characters make cameo appearances in the other books. The plot is complex complete with many surprises, twists, and turns. I just loved it! Deception is a perfect example of romantic suspense. Thank you to the author, publisher, and net galley for allowing me to read an early copy. All opinions are my own.

FORGIVING PAST DECEPTIONS

“There’s always an explanation … even though you might not be prepared for it,” Madison is told in Patricia Bradley’s novel, Deception. ~ What ~ The fourth book in the Natchez Trace Park Rangers series, this three-hundred-and-ninety-two-page targets those who like romantic suspense that searches for the truth about the past and forgiving others. With no profanity but topics of addiction, murder, and death, it may not be appropriate for immature readers. The ending includes acknowledgments, an excerpt of another book by the author, her biography, and advertisements. In this story, thirty-five-year-old Madison Thorn is an ISB ranger who switched from violent crimes to cybercrimes after killing an FBI agent in self-defense. When she has a case in Natchez, Mississippi, where she spent summers as a child, not only does she become involved in several shootings under mysterious circumstances, but also she must trust another man to help her. As the two work together to solve several crimes, they try to resolve their shortcomings while avoiding their feelings for each other. ~ Why ~ This quick read reinforces how the past’s secrets can be hard to accept yet, with forgiveness, they can be redeeming. I liked the protagonist’s determination to find who is trying to kill those she cares about as she learns to rely on God for answers. Although it is the fourth book in the series and I have not read any of the others, it is a stand-alone read. ~ Why Not ~ Those who do not like a Christian-based story that centers on God being with us always, prayer, and forgiveness may not like this read. Others may not care for the many characters and the roles they play as their lives intersect because it sometimes gets confusing. ~ Wish ~ I wish the eternal plan of salvation were clearly stated. I prefer all pronouns of God capitalized for reference. ~ Want ~ If you want to read a story that promotes forgiving pasts that are full of deception, this one with suspense will keep you engaged. Thanks to Revell for this complimentary book that I am under no obligation to review.

Patricia Bradley hits another Natchez Trace Park Ranger saga out of the park. When ISB Ranger Madison Thorn is taken to her grandfather's home town Natchez, Mississippi during a white collar crime investigation trouble doesn't cease to find her. Minutes in to being back where she spent many childhood summers she encounters childhood enemy now-Ranger Clayton Bradshaw. As Madison navigates all that comes with being in Natchez so finds herself deep in the throws of multiple deadly attempts on her life and those surrounding her and her twisted family dynamics. As always, Bradley has woven several storylines in to this one installment and sends readers wondering who done it and why. I enjoy Bradley's writings and always get lost in her Natchez Trace stories. The dynamics of the park rangers and their responsibilities are new to me. I enjoy learning the ins and outs. There was so much packed in this story I felt like I struggled to keep track of everything. I was pleasantly suprrised to learn I was right on track with who I thought was involved in all the drama! This is a testament to Patricia Bradley's talent and amazing ability to write an engaging tale. Thank you to Revell and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this story. Most of the authors I love and follow write for Revell. I enjoy becoming engrossed in so many of their releases. All opinions are my own.

Do not plan to put this down until you are finished. There are so many plot twists you almost get dizzy - a true thriller that you are unlikely to figure out. Madison Thorn, National Park Service Ranger is in Natchez to work on some white-collar crime. Somehow this somewhat benign case seems to morph into attempted murder, sniper fire and turns out to be much more of a mystery than you expect. What a fantastic way to end the Natchez Trace Park Rangers series. The author has done an incredible job of keeping you guessing right up to the unexpected conclusion! I loved all the added extras which you will have to read the book to discover. Suffice it to say, you will question many things before they are finally resolved. Learning to forgive can be a very hard lesson. This early copy was received through Baker Publishing Group, Revell and NetGalley. These thoughts and impressions are my own and were in no way solicited.

The title of this read resonates throughout, and from page one on it became a page turner. Starting with the ultimate betrayal, and then more! This read is Christian Suspense at its best, you will soon be ducking bullets, and wondering whom the culprit is, and don't get to comfortable and think things are solved, nope! We are offered some family reunions, some farewells, along with some sweet romance. We also learn again the gift of forgiveness, both to others and yourself! I loved this read, and now can't wait for the next in this series, and yes there is a teaser! I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Revell, and was not required to give a positive review.
