Tasty, but still not fully cooked at 7 minutes.
I find of requires significantly more water than the instructions say. I make a big batch and freeze portions. I do 6 cups of water to 2 cups of the oats. I also need to cook longer for a less crunchy texture. That often requires more water.

overnight oats
I use the quick cooking steel cut oats for overnight oatmeal. I mix chia seeds, walnuts, flax seed meal and greek yogurt. the only things that varies is what fruit I add. It tastes so good I could eat it all the time. Bob's Red Mill products are the very best.

Steel cut Oats.
Great product. Consistent quality. To the Alaskan who was concerned about the energy efficient way to make their oats and isn't time consuming. Put the oats in a pot the night before (I use my heavy les crueset), bring the water to a boil with the oats, turn off the burner, put on the lid to trap the heat. Leave them overnight. In the morning when you are boiling water for tea or coffee you can add a little of it to thin the oats, and reheat it on the stove and it heats up beautifully in meer minutes. Time and energy efficient. Others can microwave.

Tastes great, but impossible to cook efficiently!
While I love the flavor and consistency of these steel cut oats, I have yet to find a sustainable way to cook them! 1) No combination of microwave cooking time and power settings I've tried to date cooks them through without boiling over. 2) An Instant Pot works, but takes a long time, and requires too large of a thermal mass (the IP's steel apparatus plus water below the cooking vessel plus the vessel itself) to be a responsible use of electricity. 3) My induction cook top is congenitally incapable of keeping a double boiler at a steady low simmer, so it, too, either fails to cook the oats or makes the water below the double boiler constantly boil over. My remaining option is to use a low efficiency electric coil under the double boiler, which works fine but, like the IP, consumes a lot of power that is never transferred to the cooked product. Note that these issues arise with water; I prefer to cook my oats in milk which makes the boil over mess in the microwave etc. even worse. Each time I make these oats I use gallons of water to clean up the messes, plus time. Back in th day my Glaswegian grandfather (or, more likely, his mother or wife) just cooked regular oat meal over a stove because energy efficiency wasn't a huge concern, and standing at the stove constantly stirring was part of life. I guess if I didn't have a job and other things to do for 30 minutes at a stretch, I could do the same . . .

My go-to breakfast cereal
This has been my go-to oats for years, it is quick and easy, tastes nutty and wholesome, healthy and hearty, and is just sweet enough (without added sugar) when a few raisins are cooked along with it.

I've tried many steel cut oats brands and this is absolutely the best. Extremely flavorful, nutty and holds its own with a topping of fresh fruit.

Great!
Fast enough to cook regularly in the mornings before work, no need to worry about soaking/overnight. Good flavor, caramels and nuttiness. I only wish they had the organic version in the 25lb bags, too.
