Q: Would it lay level on the floor if you turned it upside down? I would also like to fit some shoes directly on the floor. I can't tell if the joints at the top would make it wobble.

Careless packing! The package was delivered with the instructions stuck to the packing tape, even with a careful attempt to remove the instructions it was impossible not to tear the pages. No instructions, item is of no use. In on of the photos you can see a white strip under the tape, yes those are the instructions.
