Q: can you remove the lid, taking it completely off?
A: Thanks for your question. The lid is spring-loaded on a hinge and unable to be removed.

The spring-loaded lid is attached to the outer rim of the lid (obviously), but the entire lid just lifts off the can. This makes it very easy to replace the plastic trash bag or wash the lid in the sink.
