There's no measuring, marking or need to level thanks to the innovative packaging. The gate comes out of the box in one piece to ensure your install will be hassle free. While other gates require drilling, multiple parts, and extra steps that lead to frustration; this fully assembled gate installs easily with only a screwdriver in 15 minutes - half the time of a standard gate install. Q: How high are the cutouts in the bottom corners before the bumpers start?

submitted by Bkunnath - 2 years ago
  • A: Hello, thank you for your question! The bottom of the mounting bar on the latch side of the gate is approximately 5.25" from the floor.

Q: We need to install a gate in a doorway. The door is gone but the stops remain. Removing them neatly is a challenge. Can I use wood spacers under the bracket mounting holes to bring them flush with the surface of the stops?

submitted by Brooks - 2 years ago
  • A: Hello, thank you for your question! This model requires the bumper to be 100% on a flat surface, we do not recommend using wood spacers to install the gate.

Q: Can the gate be lifted off the hinges once its installed ? I'm actually wanting to be able to do that

submitted by amy - 2 years ago
  • A: Hello, thank you for your question! Yes, the gate panel can be removed from the hinges and the hinges remain on the wall.

Q: Can this be used at an angle across an uneven stairway? If so, how far can the offset be for it to still latch properly?

submitted by emalo - 2 years ago
  • A: Hello! The gate will need to fit flush against the surface on both sides of the gate.

Q: Can you use this with an installation kit to install to one banister? Or use a clamp?

submitted by Liv - 3 years ago
  • A: Hello there. We have not tested with installation kits and do not manufacturer any. We do not recommend using after market items with our products as they have not been safety tested.

Q: The choking hazard warning seems weird so are there small parts that come off after the gate has been mounted or what is that talking about?

submitted by CarmenNeedsGate - 3 years ago
  • A: Hello there! The Safety 1st Ready to Install baby gate includes hardware for mounting the unit. We must properly label the child product for safety.

Q: What is the distance between the mounting points (height)?

submitted by Ken Willcut - 4 years ago
  • A: Each of the mounting bars is approximately 23.5" long. On the latch side, the mounting screws are approximately 14.25" apart. On the hinge bracket side, there are screws at 4 locations. There is one screw at the top, one screw at the bottom and the brackets in the center are approximately 13" apart.

Buy this only if you want to damage your house

Nothing about this gate works. The cheap, flimsy rail locking devices don't lock the rails together at all, too weak to provide function or safety so the gate does not line up well or even latch well. Now I have to remove it, return it, buy something else and patch up the holes in my walls. Really regret buying this product.

I would NOT recommend this gate to anyone. Operation of the gate is the most difficult thing ever. The slide and push mechanisms (spring actions) are very stiff and do not work. Unless you have another access out of the room you are trapped. I would consider this product a safety hazard and think it should be recalled by the Product Safety Commission.

Gate does not work in drywall

1 out of 5 stars
now we need a new gate and wall repairs - 1 year ago
originally posted on http://www.safety1st.com/
What drew me to this gate was that it specifically said it would work in drywall. After less than a week on use (without the kids present, so no climbing or standing on it) the drywall screws have all come loose on the gate side. It works well, as long as you have not intention of ever opening it. If you do want to use it as a gate, I would strongly recommend you look somewhere else. At best, this buys you a couple weeks of use and a wall left behind as a mess. Don't buy

I was so excited to see this and grab it! But it’s useless garbage. It doesn’t stay in the wall. The first time we thought that it was my kids. But the second time my husband anchored it to both the studs and anchors on the screws on the outside that are supposed to be the east pop on style. It still came clean out of the way. My husband is a handy man and does this stuff for a living. So he knows what he’s doing. Definitely not worth the price.

I purchased two gates, one for the top of the stairs and another for the bottom. These gates are SO sturdy, I have zero concerns for my toddler getting through to the stairs. Easy installation was icing on the cake.

Great baby gate. We placed this gate at the top and bottom of our stairs. We love it so far. We now feel like our adventuresome toddler is safe from a fall. I’m so happy that the gate doesn’t have a threshold bar that can be a tripping hazard too.

We are grandparents and this gate is fantastic for us. We have the safety we need - when we need it and we can lift and remove the gate when not required for long periods. It is sleek, sturdy, light weight and we love the grey colour! We are fans of most every Safety 1st product, we have many. Thank you for making quality products with common sense features that are stylish!

What drew me to this gate was that it specifically said it could be mounted to drywall and that there were no anchors needed. However it's been 5 days and only myself and my husband have touched the gate and all but one of the screws came out of the drywall. It was also not as easy as it says to install. Yes, the installation per the directions was quite easy, but something must have been off with the guides on mine (the guides are really like cardboard boxes) because after it was installed it did not close right. I needed to undo everything I did on one side and put more holes in the wall. Now I can't even use the gate and have ended up with many large holes. I'm extremely disappointed and wish I had listened to the reviews that warned about this.

The name says it all - this gate was ridiculously simple to install (we did use our drill vs a screw driver to speed things up)!! I already have a second gate ordered! Easy to open with one hand and fits across my wider staircase no problem! Safety 1st saves the day again!!

Super easy to install, looks great and works well. The only problem I had was that my walls aren't actually perpendicular to the floor and parallel to one another. Check your walls first because it's easier to use shims during initial installation rather than afterward (it took me 10 minutes to figure out why it wasn't closing correctly once I removed the packaging). Also, you may want to use drywall anchors, especially at the top of a staircase.

We have this gate at the top of the stairs so I like how this gate does not have a bar along the bottom. It was easy to install and has gotten the job done - keeping our kids safe from falling down the stairs. Personally, I have a lot of trouble opening the gate with one hand. I'll eventually get the hang of it, but I do not like the trouble it is causing me.

So this seems like an awesome gate. I absolutely love the concept of just placing it and attaching it, other manufacturers should be on notice. I also love the fact that it attaches ABOVE base and molding. The only things I have to say is that 1: when you follow all the directions in order, which are super easy, the gate, mine, doesn't match up with the jamb. There is a little sag in the gate so in order to get it to latch you have to lift up. I'll be dropping the latch side to match, which will put visible holes in my wall that I'll need to fill and paint. I think it would help if there was at least some sort of adjustment up and down, maybe with a screw, 2: that the wing that swings out to prevent it from swinging over the stairs is super easy to move, like a kid could do it accidentally. I'll be adding a set screw to this part so it won't be possible, and 3: it's minor but some trim that snaps onto cover the screws would be nice. Even with these issues tho I won't be returning it as I think in the future I can mitigate these problems and overall they are minor compared to the ease of installation and quality. I'll prob need four more.

Did not stay attached to wall. Bracket broke that's holds it to the wall. Screws should be longer if no anchor is used.

I have a few different gates in my home, mainly for use to block stairs. This gate has proved to be one of the best. It's sturdy and feels secure but is lightweight. Upon opening the box, I really appreciated how ALL pieces needed for installation were secured right to the gate. The directions were very clear, and with everything needed right at my fingertips, it took only minutes to install correctly. Only tool needed was a screwdriver, as the cardboard spacers insured a correct fit without having to measure. The gate is easy to open so it's perfect for high traffic areas. I really like the swing stop to prevent it from swinging out over the steps at the top of the landing.

We put this gate at the top of our stairs. It is very sturdy and easy for my five year old to open and close, yet keeps my 21 month old safely away from the stairs. My husband installed it rather quickly and it looked easy enough to put in (I'm confident I could have installed it myself).

I placed this gate at the top of the stairs, right outside of my daughter's play area and bedroom. Now that she's on the move, the stairs were a huge concern for us! This gate was easy to install, and I trust that it will keep her safe.

This Gate is a parent's dream!

I cannot stress how easy this gate is to install! As a parent, trying to figure out what gate would work out best in our home was a job in itself. Once we realized that our toddler was very independent when it came to stairs, we knew we needed to make some decisions. Since this is our second child (and much more active than our first), we did a lot of research on a gate for Top of the Stairs (needs to be a hardware mount) and ease of installation because NO PARENT HAS HOURS TO INSTALL A PRODUCT. You literally pull the gate out of the box, open the locks at the top, slide the gate open to the size of your staircase (or opening), tighten the screws (the screws are amazing! They look like wall dog screws), lock the gate and you are done. It literally took 7 minutes. The gate is so sturdy and it was one of the best purchases I have made so far in parenthood. Time is money now a days!
