Q: How long does the blade stay sharp? Can you replace it?

A: Hi Tinakomi - Thank you for your question! No, the blade cannot be replaced. The product was designed to last approximately a year. However, the life really depends on the hardness of the pills being cut and the frequency. The user should periodically inspect the product for wear. Q: its obvious the pill cutter is a plastic case with a blade, but what is the surrounding soft material "shield" made from, is it free from latex and rubber , is it silicone?

Mangles pills
I’ve had other pill splitters in the past and they all worked just fine. This one cost more and is unusable. Instead of slicing the pills in half, it mangles them into a kind of .75 / .25 split, just crushes them entirely, or does seemingly nothing at all. It’s also far bulkier than any of my prior pill splitters, making it less portable. I should have read the other reviews. Waste of money and space.

Works better than expected!
After reading many negative reviews saying this device cuts very unevenly, I was almost afraid to buy it; but since the doctor was weaning me off of a medication, I figured I could use the "half" pills in descending order of size: 80%, 70%, 60%, ..., 30%. Following advice given in a couple of more positive reviews, I took care to position the pill at the center and to press down slowly and gently on the lever. To my delight, it worked well: in the seven pills sliced, I did not see any "half" larger than 55% or smaller than 45%. So, I think this device is severely under-rated, maybe by people who used it carelessly. Bought in 2025, made in China.

Works very well!
This works very well for the small oval sized pills I needed to cut in half. Is it perfect? Honestly, pretty close. Some pills cut slightly uneven. Did it take 10-15 seconds to make sure I had the pill well aligned for it to cut nicely? Yes it did. And maybe those 10-15 seconds is the difference between those who gave it 1 star with 0 patience. Take the seconds to put it in as even as possible then I found it best to close it like you’re hanging up on someone with a 2000’s flip phone (iykyk). I will give benefit of the doubt for those trying with circle pills or even smaller pills, but honestly this works very well for very low cost.

Not for small pills
This was the worst pill cutter I’ve ever used. Maybe for big pills it would be fine but for small pills it doesn’t cut well and is very inconsistent with size. I’m a nurse and I’ve used a lot of pill cutters. This one was the worst by far.

Not good for small pills
There is a rubber mat inside cutter so that pulls don’t slip. However, it allows the pulls to move freely against the blade giving it an uneven cut. I lost 2 pulls trying to make it work. This is NOT recommended for small pills.

This product is a complete waste of money. It cuts pills unevenly and/or crushes them, wasting useful and costly medication. It also doesn’t close securely causing any pills stored inside to fall out.
