The system is made up of a soundbar, dedicated rear speakers, and a subwoofer. The majority of your audio fills the room from 11 front-firing drivers, while four up-firing drivers and up and side-firing rear speakers work with Dolby Atmos or DTS:X support to immerse you in sound, even from above. Samsung's Spacefit Sound Pro feature calibrates and auto-optimizes this output based on your room, so you're always assured the best possible experience possible. The HW-Q990D is for more than action-packed movies though, Bluetooth and Tap Sound make it easy to stream your favorite music and playlists too. I mainly watch movies and shows and the clarity of the Q symphony is unmatched. Games have more depth and make me truly feel like I'm in the virtual world with buildings crumbling behind me, birds chirping off in the distance compared to the footsteps that seem near by, and the bass that shakes the house when an explosion goes off. This is truly an immersive experience. Paired with the smart things app on my phone, controlling the soundbar is amazingly simple to adjust on the fly. I did find the space fit sound can sometimes get a little wonky if people are moving around the room and talking closer to the TV, it will get quite and then a few seconds later sounds great again, would be better if it had a more seamless adjustment but it's very easy to get past that because it really isn't too noticeable. Pairing to my phone's Bluetooth was a simple push of a button in the smart things app. Once connected I was even more blown away with how crisp the highs were and how punchy the bass was. This sound system is great for every day watching, listening, and gaming. Whether your new to surround sound or looking to upgrade, the Q990D is the sound system you've been searching for.

I was so excited to to purchase this sound bar and had to win a battle with the wife to justify spending this kind of money for tv sound. I love the bar and it sounds better than I thought it might, until one day when it sounded horrible. It still produced sound but it was garbbled and sounded like crap. Looked online to see if anyone else was experiencing the same thing I was. Sure enough, lots of others had the same thing going on. Some were saying it started after a firmware update. Put in for a service call and had someone scheduled to come out and look at it. I messed with it unplugging the power and got it to work again. So, dumb me, cancelled the appointment. After a week or two, back to square one. Now, every few days I have to unplug to get the sound back. I made a mistake and my wife doesn't let me forget it, neither does the soundbar.

Hi Sambull99, We appreciate you taking a few moments to provide feedback regarding the HW-Q990D Soundbar. Updating the firmware on your soundbar gives you all the benefits of the latest improvements. When the Soundbar is connected to the Internet, Auto Update allows software to update automatically even when the Soundbar is turned off. You can also update by using the SmartThings app. If not connected to the internet, you can download it onto a USB device, and then upload it to your soundbar - no wireless connection required. Connect the USB drive that contains the update firmware to the SERVICE port of the Soundbar. 1.Go to the Samsung Electronics website (www.samsung.com) → click on the “Support” option in the upper left corner. 2.Click on “Manuals & Software” from the pop-up list > TVs & Home Theater > Home Theater > Select your model 2. Download the firmware file (USB type). 3. Unzip the file to create a folder with the file name. 4. Store the created folder in a USB and then connect it to the Soundbar. 5. A sequence of “UPDATE” > “BYE” > “ON” will appear on the display 3 times. This will take around 6 minutes. - During update, do not turn it off or remove the USB. - If “UPDATE” does not appear on the display window, remove the power cord from the Soundbar and then reconnect it. - When the latest version is installed, no update is performed. - Depending on the USB type, update may not be supported. 6. After the 3 cycles are complete, the Soundbar will restart and last source used will appear on the display for about 20 seconds and then it will go off (“UPDATE” > “BYE” > “ON”) 3 times “D.IN” > off Samsung is committed to providing the best possible product experience, quality, and value. Does not keep connection to rear speakers or subwoofer Samsung has responded and I have spent hours doing what they have already reported in their response. I now need to download new firmware which may or may not work . Again I suggest not to buy. Discount is attractive but you are left with a lemon.

Hi TDS unhappy, We appreciate you taking a moment to review the Samsung HW-Q990D Soundbar. Please know the maximum wireless signal transmission distance is about 33 ft. You can try repairing the rear speakers by performing the following steps. Press and hold the ID SET button on the back of the rear speaker for at least 5 seconds or until the blue light starts blinking. Turn off your soundbar and press the Up button on the remote for 5 seconds. The ID SET message will appear on the soundbar for a short time and then disappear. After the ID SET process, the soundbar's power is automatically turned on. The LINK LED indicator stops blinking and glows a solid blue when a connection is established between the soundbar and the rear speakers. If you’d like more help with settings, please know we’re here to help! Call us at 1-800-SAMSUNG (Ask for Soundbars), 8AM - 12AM EST, 7 days a week. The ‘wireless’ rear speakers and subwoofer (but wired for power) eliminates most annoying wires. Have NOT lost Bluetooth with main speaker. Music, sports and non surround content all sound good.

This system replaces a Vizio 5.1 wireless surround sound of that turned out to be so bad that I just threw it in the trash. The sound on that unit was okay but it continuously had a popping and cracking sounds on two different units that I tried. Unboxing was a good experience and a setup was very simple. There are power cords for the two surround speakers, the subwoofer, and the sound bar. Everything is wireless. I have my PlayStation 5 and Nvidia shield connected to the soundbar with HDMI 2.1 and a HDMI 2.1 cable ( provided ) via Arc. Most all configuration was pretty automatic. I still need to it gets stands to place the speakers properly and use the app to properly tune it using a microphone. So far I am very satisfied with this quality system.

High ceilings and open layout make Atmos height difficult with any speaker but this comes the closest to giving me the feel. The open layout and large room gets filled nicely with the Q990D. I can hear the rears do their job and the center is clear and accurate. The bass, ohhhhh the bass, makes it feel like I’m in a theatre, clear and boomy, and I can “feel” it. Overall very good.

The first few months I had it I was like sounds pretty good but something seemed off, well I didn't have one.of the setting correct user error totally my fault. When I fixed the setting omg I was blown out of the water the dolby atmos is amazing everything from the sunwoffer to the rear speakers and soundbar was crystal clear the explosions rocked the house and the car chases feels like your actually there. Best choice i ever made buying this system the fiancé thinks it's to much but she isn't a movie need or gamer, also listening to Spotify for music sounds fantastic it's a must but you will definitely not be dissapointed.

However, the sound stage and spatial sound is lacking. You don't feel surrounded such as you would think. Otherwise, I HIGHLY RECCOMEND IT!
