About the Author

Hugo von Hofmannsthal (1874-1929) was an Austrian poet, dramatist, and essayist and a leading figure of Viennese modernism. He is best known for his collaborations with composer Richard Strauss and for his enduring contributions to the intellectual and artistic culture of early twentieth-century Europe.
