Description

When life is busy, don’t let messes slow you down. Seventh Generation dishwasher packs offer a convenient and powerful clean that blasts through tough residue to leave your dishes streak-free with just one wash, no pre-rinse necessary. Our single dose dishwasher tabs come in a dissolvable PVA film that can be tossed right into the dishwasher for a hassle-free alternative to traditional powders and gels – no need to unwrap or measure. Seventh Generation Free & Clear Dishwasher Detergent Packs are made with plant-based ingredients free of fragrances, dyes, phosphates, and chlorine bleach. Because trust us, we can handle the job without them. For more than 25 years, Seventh Generation has been thoughtfully formulating safe and effective plant-based products that work. Really well. Our dish detergent uses powerful plant-based ingredients like surfactants and enzymes to break down tough residue and lift away food, leaving your dishes sparkling clean. So, how does it all work? The enzymes cut through grease and food by breaking down starch and protein-based residue while the surfactants remove dirt and grease by holding the molecules in suspension, so they can wash away. Yes, even those fussy egg stains. Based in Vermont, Seventh Generation is proud to be a Certified B Corporation. B Corps are certified to be better for workers, better for communities, and better for the environment. By choosing Seventh Generation dishwasher soap products, you’re joining us in nurturing the health of the next seven generations. There's still grease on my plates

1 out of 5 stars
Thumbs down graphic, would not recommend
Alex - 2 months ago
I have never left a review before. This is the worst dish washing pod on the market. It left grease on all of my plates and I ended up hand washing all of my dishes. This is a green washing product that’s not even nontoxic because the wrapping is still plastic. You might as well get the name brand dish washing pod that’s not green washing and actually works to fight against the grease.

Contains ethoxylate, which creates gut issues.

I've used these for nearly two years and they've been great. Clean dishes, no residue. But I recently read about the dangers of ethoxylate and was dismayed to find this product contains it. I also discovered this product is not on the recommended list by EWG, and the version of ethoxylate that this product contains is rated a C. I will be switching. I buy SG out of trust, and it's frustrating to make these discoveries!

Imperfect, but there is a workaround

3 out of 5 stars
Overit - 3 months ago, Verified purchaser
As other reviewers have stated, these packs tend not to dissolve completely during a wash cycle and when the cycle ends, residue can be found inside the dishwasher and on the dishes and flatware, etc. We even called for dishwasher service, thinking our old dishwasher was the problem, but the service representative showed us that if we throw the packs in a flatware basket the pack should dissolve during the cycle and do its job. We have found this to be the case. Still deducting two stars for having to use this workaround, and for *Seventh Generation’s choice of using PVA plastic.*

polyvinyl alcohol

2 out of 5 stars
Thumbs down graphic, would not recommend
footarget - 4 months ago, Verified purchaser
Before buying this product, I thought that the reviewers the crunchy granola type were kind of crazy going on and on about polyvinyl alcohol as the ingredient used to make the clear pod outer casing. However after I've bought two boxes of the stuff I've done more research and found that it's made from petrochemicals. It seems counterintuitive that a brand that portrays itself as environmentally friendly is using a unnecessary petrochemical ingredient. While the Pod does dissolve it never really goes away from the environment. I think it's creepy that this dissolvable plastic is now in our waterways and water system and possibly in our bodies. There seems to be no conclusive evidence that this ingredient is environmentally safe or safe for humans or animals to digest which is what will happen if the water treatment systems can't get rid of this ingredient. Also during storms a lot of water waste will just run out to the ocean if water treatment systems are overwhelmed. Once my two boxes are completely used up I will never buy dishwasher or laundry detergent pods ever again. If this is not enough to convince you then speak to Appliance technicians and they will tell you that pods can clog up and ruin dishwashers or clothes washers. If this ingredient is truly safe to use than I'd like to see the company CEO dissolve a few of the pods casings into a glass of water and drink it. I happened to switch to this brand because it is unscented. The positive is that it is unscented. The Cascade brand made all my silicone utensils smell and food taste weird. Despite this company's greenwashing efforts I will still try the powdered detergent in cardboard boxes that they sell, just not the pods, to see if they clean dishes well and aren't too environmentally destructive.

Pods are covered in PVA (aka plastic)

1 out of 5 stars

I used this product in the past which worked fine but then switched to Blueland pods since they are uncovered/not covered in Poly vinyl Alcohol film plastic. Yes, folks, PVA is plastic, fossil fuel derived & will release microplastics into our water system. As soon as this box Is done I’m going back to Blueland. SG you can do better! Safer choice should remove your certification

Pods don’t dissolve :(

These pods don’t work! I run multiple cycles with the same pod or new pods and the pods don’t dissolve at all. There isn’t anything wrong with my dishwasher since other brand pods work. I’m so disappointed because I usually love this brand and I have a fragrance allergy and love how many free and clear options there are but this product has been disappointing!

Plastic pods that don't fully degrade! We are eating, breathing, and drinking microplastics!

I have used nothing but 7th Gen products since they first entered the market, but they have moved further and further away from "clean" products.... now they are billing their stuff as "the safer choice." Safer for whom? With the news about microplastics polluting our world, I find it unconscionable that 7th Gen thinks plastic encapsulated detergent is a "safer choice." 75% of PVA (what they use) is still in our waterways and elsewhere - yes, it breaks down, but only into microplastics. I've used the liquid free & clear detergent because of this, but now the liquid form has been discontinued by the company. And the reviews on the powder formulation, as well as my experience with the product, are anything but good. The liquid is still available with lemon, but that discolors stainless steel flatware. The company even acknowledges this, but also tells us it doesn't discolor and and is safe for sterling silver. Seriously? Simply put, I'm going to have to find another company to support.

Shame on you 7th Generation for greenwashing. Your original powdered detergent was perfectly fine, but instead of sticking with that you made pods with PVA, which does not truly biodegrade. https://www.plasticpollutioncoalition.org/blog/2022/11/18/pva-plastic-what-you-need-to-know
1 reply from Knorr Consumer Services team - 7 months ago
Thanks for reaching out. Seventh Generation uses polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) to encapsulate each dish pack. PVA is a synthetic polymer that is biodegradable and designed to dissolve in water. This ingredient meets our rigorous human and planetary health standards. This product is also certified by EPA Safer Choice as a safer choice for your family. We'll share your feedback with our team.
