SGX NYC Play It Big Volumizing Finishing Hair Spray - 8.5oz

Works as a hair spray super well. Adds a lot of volume. But, it stinks!! It literally smells like old cigarette smoke, and it is noticeable. I’m embarrassed to wear it out because of the smell.

I love this hair spray

I’ve been a loyal customer, but my last six+ purchases have been awful. Each bottle smelled rancid, like a burnt bandage. I kept buying, thinking I’d just gotten a bad batch, but when I finally checked, every single one was expired. My local store’s entire shelf was expired, and even when I ordered online, I still got a rancid bottle. I reported it to the store manager and even reached out directly to the company, but never received a response. Extremely disappointing experience… I will not be purchasing again.

I have purchased this for a long time and always loved it, but I just bought a new bottle and it smells disgusting! It smells like it went bad. I can’t even use it because I can’t stand the smell. So sad!

Smells Awful! I have bought this before and it was great! This time the smell is so bad I’m going to HAVE to return. I can’t even describe the scent but the scent sticks and it’s BAD

It does not hold hair at all Smells good but I need to return it.

Legitimately my new favorite hairspray. I have been doing prom, homecoming & wedding hair for 20+ years and I needed a very last minute refill on a flexible hold hairspray to keep flyaways at bay! I decided to grab a drug store brand one and this one on a whim because it was on sale. The drug store brand destroyed the hair- it was so heavy and wet. This was PERFECT. LIGHT, Moveable, but holds the curl! I am never going back! This is my personal new every day hairspray as well! Great Price! Even better when it’s on sale!

It’s smells horrible now! Didn’t always smell like this (has a smoky smell now). I used to LOVE how it used to smell. Not sure what changed.

I used to love this hairspray but I just bought a new bottle and the smell is awful. It almost smells like smoke. Unfortunately I wont be purchasing this again. :(

This used to be my go-to. Stopped buying because the smell is horrible now. Not sure who’s job it is to sign off on fragrance, but they clearly failed.

I have everyone in the family hooked on this hairspray! Clean ingredients that actually work! Strong hold that lasts all day and the smell is fantastic and not overwhelming - even my son uses it! Buy!!

I disliked the scent of this spray, it reminds me the scent that sticks to you when passing by someone who’s smoking a cigarette!

This used to be a 5-star product until recently... I have been using this hairspray since it came out in probably 2019, and I have loved using it for years, but most recently (maybe March 2025 or so), the smell has changed, and it's absolutely disgusting! I can't handle spraying it in my hair because it smells like alcohol gone bad or something. I even went to different stores to test out the smell to get all the good-smelling bottles that were left before all the gross ones took over, and now the time has come where I can no longer purchase this hairspray because of the smell. Please check your formula and the scent being added, as it's gross now, and I can't buy it because I don't want to ever smell that in my hair again. It's so bad that the stench lasts in your hair until you wash it out, too. What happened to quality control?? There is no way you're shipping these out and not smelling the product to be sure it's on point.

This product has a weird smell and it’s also very sticky. Made my hair feel very stiff as well. Would not repurchase.

Ok hold, smells awful. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the weird smell, the only way I can describe it is like if plastic could rot?

There has to have been a formula change. This was perfect for YEARS, just bought another a week ago and this smells SO bad. Literally like a barnyard. So gross, and it's way stickier now.

This used to be my go to five-star for quite a while. It seems like they fixed the spray malfunction, but now the smell of it is like bandages. Also it seems to dry my hair out more now.

I use to love this product. However the last few months every bottle I get has been almost impossible to spray. I mean I need two hands to get it to spray. I now will be looking for a new brand that I like.
