Does not sew Leather like it said online!

I purchased a Singer Heavy Duty 6800C Sewing Machine a few years ago and just recently had a reason to put it to use. I have made custom Chaps for people who show horses and I had a rebuilt treadle machine for years until I couldn't find anyone to repair it. I went online and researched sewing machines and found this one and it said online that it would sew leather. Well, it doesn't sew leather! Not even close! It is difficult to use and has too many plastic parts. I ended up sewing up my chaps with my 1978 Kenmore sewing machine which is twice the machine that this Singer Heavy Duty 6800C is! So Disappointed! I will not be buying anymore Singer sewing machines! 1 c

    Excellent Brand and Service.

This is a great machine and an excellent brand as a gift to my wife, so good, that I got two kinds of the same brand. As a kid, my mother has them on her business, and still do use the brand.

    Unresolved problem

Singer heavy duty 6800, I've had this machine for a couple of years now and my issue is the same, some times when trying to back stitch the machine automatically sticks and continues to back stitch really fast, the only way to stop it is to turn the machine off or try to force it to stop. I have tried to get an answer as to why this continues to happen but have not received an answer.

    Disappointing

Lower quality than I was expecting. The machine is terrible with buttonholes and basting. I've had to rip out multiple attempts at buttonholes, and the machine simply gets stuck when I try to base. It was a fairly inexpensive machine, and I guess that's what I ended up with.

    Great machine

It is a great machine wish you had more sewing patterns programmed into it like the 9960 quilting one but the power is great.

    Replacing a 64-year-old Singer

I bought the Singer HD 6800C sewing machine for my mother's birthday which is replacing her "Touch N Sew 600" (manufactured around 1962). After years of use her Singer 600 started to wind the thread around the bobbin causing a mess and requiring the removal of the bobbin and pulling out the section that was sewed. I picked the 6800C because it defaults to a standard straight stich without teaching my mother the advanced stitching functions or having to use a computer. She quilts all the time and is a member of the local quilting group. Today she told me that she was able to finish the complete top of a basic quilt without stopping to "fight" with the machine. The Singer 6800C makes nice, clean straight stiches in the quilting fabric without complaining or binding. The only complaint so far, it the lack of a user manual. We still have the manual for the Singer 600, and mother and I are older than the internet, so, paper manuals for the Singer 6800C is a desired feature.

    Not so heavy duty

I've tried the machine on a number of projects, but when it came down to doing a commission to re upholster 4 chairs, it failed. The material was vinyl and it could handle the seams, but when it came to the top stitching the stitches were inconsistent. The needle would vibrate wildly at the extra layer and catch in loops on yhe bottom, as I tried to remove the knots at the bobbin, it took off on it's own sewing without touching the foot. I'm lucky it didn't sew through my finger. The customer was not pleased with the finish on the tops stitching. I removed it several times & re-sewed it costing lots of extra time. I may not get paid for all that work because of this. Yes, I adjusted the tension & ran a test on scrap vinyl. I was sent home with 2 of the chairs to re-do again. I'm very disappointed with this machine.

Good Machine but Foot Control Issues

I really liked this machine! It was easy to use and the automatic thread snip + tie off features were great for me. I’ve only had the machine for a few months when the foot control stopped working. It would work here and there but then stopped. Seems like the socket is loose and messing with the connection. I thought, oh well I’ll just take it in for service under warranty since it’s 4 months old. I was wrong, the warranty is not so hassle free as advertised. You have to find a dealer & jump through hoops to prove purchase. I’m new to sewing and this was very sad for me so now I’m looking for a new machine because most repair shops charge 125+ even for a simple fix and have crazy long repair times. If this would have happened after a few years of owning, u would highly recommend this machine but since it is so new, I fear it’s an indication of machine quality lacking.

    Serious work force

Had this machine for nearly 9 years. I sew with it daily, from crafts to clothes and quilting. It has handled every challenge like a pro. The only issue had so far is the thread guard on the take up lever, it allows the thread to jump track when stitching at the highest speed .

Go from light to heavy seeing with ease

I waited so long to finally have my dream sewing machine. I love the ease of going from heavy to light fabrics. I’ve seen garments, crafts and all with ease. My only wish is that they t came with manual. Some of us are old school and like paper manuals.

Thrilled to be back with Singer

Love the machine. The motor is powerful enough to sew through all the layers of a quilt. The buttonholes are consistent. Stitch length is even. It is intuitive to use. A great value for the price and a joy to use.

Very Nice Machine and User Friendly

I bought the Singer HD 6800C sewing machine for myself for Christmas. I wanted to buy this machine during the COVID shut down when my old machine broke but it was sold out. I ended up buying a Ja**me HD machine. It's a good machine for basic items but I needed one that could handle denim and also have a lot of stitches without having to hook up to a computer. This machine does that and more. It's super easy to use, seems to be very well built and the instructions are easy to follow. After having it for a month now, I would recommend. It sews really good and is definitely user friendly. The only thing I would say Singer could improve is to include a user manual. That is not included. It must be downloaded on the computer and printed off. No big deal but come on, included the manual.

Great machine, even for a novice like me.

I was attracted to the 6800c because of its advanced features. I’ll never use 98% of the programmed stitches. However, I love the programmable needle up/down feature. Also the automated thread cutter and stitch knot. Makes securing the beginning and ending of a stitch line so easy. The motor is powerful and pressed through leather and heavy material.
