Q: I had really blonde hair when I was younger but got darker to dirty blonde is it possible it will bring back my natural color ?

submitted by Gizel - 5 years ago
  • A: Sun In is a hair lightener that lightens your natural shade. It will turn your dirty blonde hair to a lighter shade of blonde. That being said, it’s not a colorant with various shades, so we cannot guarantee it will be an exact color match to your original shade.

Q: Do you need to be in the sun for it to work?? Or does your hair just needs to be wet?

submitted by Anonymous - 5 years ago
  • A: Sun In works with heat activation – and that can be achieved by the sun or a blow dryer. We recommend applying Sun In to wet hair and then letting the sun activate the lightener or the heat of a blow dryer activate it.

Q: what does this do to natural gray hair?

submitted by Dusty - 5 years ago
  • A: Sun In is a hair lightener and not a colorant so it will not color gray hair. However, it may take some of the yellowish tints out as it lightens

Q: Will my hair ever return to original color?

Q: Will this make my hair green if I go to the pool?

submitted by Ally - 9 days ago
  • A: Hi Ally! Sun In will not make your hair green. The chlorine and metals in pools bind to hair and, with repeated swimming, can cause hair to have a greenist cast to it. This is more noticeable on lighter hair than darker hair, but is unrelated to the use of Sun In. We would recommend proactively using a good swim shampoo that binds to those chemicals and keep hair healthy, like Ultra Swim shampoo. -Sun In Team

Q: I have bangs and I was wondering if it helps blonde them too, also, does Sun In cause damage to hair?

submitted by ellie - 1 month ago
  • A: Hi Ellie! Here are instructions on How to Use: Lighten All Over: Spray damp hair generously, comb through evenly, blow dry. Highlights: Separate select strands, spray each strand generously, blow dry. Repeat above steps until you get the brightness you want. Before using, test a strand of your hair and follow all label instructions. Recommended for blonde to medium brown hair. Reddish results may occur in dark hair. Not recommended for color-treated or chemically treated hair. Highlights will be permanent. Contains no metallic dyes. Bleach-free hair lightener is gentle yet effective

Reliably gently lightens chestnut brown hair. The longer you leave it in, the more color is stripped, so proceed cautiously to get the color you want. However, it doesn’t turn brown hair blonde, especially if your undertone is red. Do remember to use a neutralizer when washing out product - like a purple shampoo and conditioner. That’ll help maintain golden tones and prevent color from getting brassy. If your hair is more delicate or has already been color treated, also use a strong conditioner or mask. Be sure to give hair time to rest between applications of sun in to prevent unwanted damage

Should only be used by natural blondes

If you're a level 6 or below I don't recommend using this as your hair will likely pull extremely warm/brassy. This product only works as intended for natural blondes but even then I wouldn't use it all over since you want your hair to have some dimension. Same color all over hasn't been in style for 20 years. For natural blondes: I recommend weaving this product in a highlight placement in foils to get a salon look at home. If you don't know what any of this means you should probably only get your hair done at a salon or by someone who does.

I have been using sun in for over 15 years to keep my hair looking fresh and blonde. I naturally have dirty blonde hair so this just helps lighten it. I spray it on before going outside and let it dry in the sun

I have naturally red hair that has gotten a darker auburn as I have gotten older. I put this in my hands and streak it through my hair, kind of like balayage. I do this after I shower and my hair is clean. I use Prell shampoo and no conditioner, then I just blow dry my hair and have lovely strawberry blonde highlights. I do this maybe once or twice a month. No damage to the hair. No bad smells like permanent coloring. I think it’s a real winner.

Ladies, don’t use this. It will absolutely fry your hair. It’s hydrogen peroxide and water. I used it in my teens, and a hairstylist urged me to quit when he saw how lifeless my hair was. It’s a cheap lightener, but your hair will pay the price.
