The “page-turning, exhilarating” (PopSugar) and “heartfelt thriller” (Real Simple) about a woman who thinks she’s found the love of her life—until he disappears.
Before Owen Michaels disappears, he smuggles a note to his beloved wife of one year: Protect her. Despite her confusion and fear, Hannah Hall knows exactly to whom the note refers—Owen’s sixteen-year-old daughter, Bailey. Bailey, who lost her mother tragically as a child. Bailey, who wants absolutely nothing to do with her new stepmother.
As Hannah’s increasingly desperate calls to Owen go unanswered, as the FBI arrests Owen’s boss, as a US marshal and federal agents arrive at her Sausalito home unannounced, Hannah quickly realizes her husband isn’t who he said he was. And that Bailey just may hold the key to figuring out Owen’s true identity—and why he really disappeared.
Hannah and Bailey set out to discover the truth. But as they start putting together the pieces of Owen’s past, they soon realize they’re also building a new future—one neither of them could have anticipated.
With its breakneck pacing, dizzying plot twists, and evocative family drama, The Last Thing He Told Me is a “page-turning, exhilarating, and unforgettable” (PopSugar) suspense novel.

Womp. Womp. Womp.
Ughh. Man I had high hopes for this one! And who is deciding the books for ‘Reese’s Book Club’ & ‘Goodreads Mystery & Thriller of the Year’ because like…are we all reading the same books?? This was just…meh. Advertised as a captivating thriller? This is more of a slow-burn domestic tale. But maybe it’s just me. 🤷🏼♀️ The only thing I liked was the evolution of Hannah & Bailey’s step-mother/step-daughter relationship, & the effort Hannah put in to understanding Bailey, putting her first & just loving her through everything she was being put through. Started off strong with the mystery, only to fall completely flat from the middle to the end.

I loved this book. The ending made me cry. I read it within just a couple days. I wish there was a second book to continue on their story.

Let-down!
This was probably the worst book I read in 2022. The ending was a big let-down and left me frustrated that I even read it. Not sure why its so highly rated.

Meh
Although an easy read I found that the book dragged. It wasn’t very clever compared to other thrillers or mysteries. I forced myself to finish it.

Hard to put down - great story!
Loved the use of flashbacks - they were cleverly interspersed in the way you would remember things. Enjoyed the read from beginning to end.

No.
I was prepared to give this book 3 stars. The writing was mediocre, it wasn't suspenseful, and the characters were dull. The middle to ending is what makes it a 1 star book at best. Despite a U.S. Marshall telling her to lay low, Hannah leaves $60k under the sink and drags her stepdaughter to Austin based on a memory of being in a stadium where the team wears orange. Fast forward through all the epiphanies they have about Hannah's husband/Bailey's father, they do some incredible research and *boom* within 2 days they put the pieces mostly together. And once again, despite U.S. Marshall telling her that 1) Bailey's grandfather is a dangerous man (with friends), and 2) they could all be back in the witness protection program and eventually reunited with Owen, Hannah chooses to "let Bailey be Bailey" and separates her permanently from her father, all while allowing said dangerous grandfather, et al. be a part of her life. Any reasonable mom/stepmother/person would find that rather unbelievable. Oh, this allows Hannah to continue to live her life as a woodturner too! Please. Did we even discuss the repercussions of society, neighbors, friends all thinking Owen was guilty and fled and how that affected Bailey? Nope. Does the author expect her readers to believe all is peaceful and normal again? Even though Hannah knows they're being watched? Tell me how this is best for Bailey? This book was terrible. I can't wait to not watch the mini-series.

Easy and fun read
I found the book to be very entertaining. I enjoy thriller stories and it was very easy to read but very hard to put down. It's not slow it's more suspenseful hence why I finished it in one day.

slow and boring
I’m finding this book to be SO SLOW it’s taking me forever to get through it. I keep wanting to just stop reading it. I never write reviews….I stopped reading to reread reviews and decided to write one myself. I don’t know if I should stick it out.. skip a few chapters or go straight to the end.. I’m literally half way through pg 147.

Title Sounds Rather Innocent...
The book is very well written - expecially with the narrative switching from present to past events - I was also impressed with the development of the two main female characters and the building of their relationship. The story was well thought-out and gripping from beginning to end.

Terrible writing and storytelling. Disappointing.
Terrible story and character development. I don’t understand why so many people enjoy this book. Oh I know. It’s because it has Reese Witherspoon’s endorsement therefore people think they are supposed to like it. Don’t waste your time.

Great read!
I couldn’t put the book down because I wanted to find out who Owen really was and what he did! Would recommend. My typical genre is romance but I actually really enjoyed this book. Didn’t end how I’d like it too but you get closure and not left with a cliff hanger which deserves 5 stars in my opinion.

I was tricked into buying this
The most boring book I’ve ever read. Could pass as a children’s book because of how it’s written and basic vocabulary. Don’t trust the reviews and save your time and money
