The box on this is no joke 9 x bigger than necessary. I don’t see how there could be much in the way of gems inside this volcano because it’s so small. It’s a neat idea. My son loved it when he opened it but it’s another one of those the box is deceptive. As others noted you must buy vinegar because apparently adding that to the box was just too difficult (definitely not due to lack of space). I’m tired of these companies being so cheap. See photos.

No gems
Bought for my son’s seventh birthday, there were no gems whatsoever in the entire volcano. We tore it apart even dissolved all the volcano in case we missed anything. Absolutely nothing. Such a disappointment.

Disapointed
The volcano did not erupt or make the digging portion any easier. It took almost an hour to dig through the volcano just to find all the stones in the same spot clustered together at the bottom . The stones were smaller than a penny. Would not recommend this.

Super fun BUT make sure to have WHITE VINEGAR at home
It was very enjoyable but it doesn't start anywhere that it uses vinegar & I always have vinegar, except of course, this ONE time. We improvised with some lemon juice but didn't have enough so the eruption was less than thrilling but sizzled a bit. If we'd have been aware we needed vinegar, it would have been 100% great. The gems are awesome. The poster is educational & high quality.& It is time consuming (good thing) so it's nice to do for bonding & education.

The project is fun, but could be very frustrating for some. The gems are so small, it takes A LOT of work to find some of them. Both of my boys had fun though, so I would recommend.
