My son was gifted this National Geographic volcano kit for Christmas. He really loves science, but we are saving this for the summer because it is very messy. I would highly recommend having an adult help build it because you want to make sure that the mold is correctly built and making sure the plaster, which is needed to make the volcano, is used properly. You don’t want your child to be inhaling any plaster particles.

The worst toy I’ve purchased. My kid was so disappointed when he opened it and even when we decided to try and build the volcano it doesn’t work.,

Cheaply made/put together, instructions could be better, and the volcano effect lasts a minute at most.

The plaster needs better instructions. We oversized and it hardened and ruined our project. Also it would be nice if it came with a mixing bowl of some sort.

Kids (4 and 9) love this. We used extra rubber bands on the mold and it came out fine. Mix the plaster a little thicker and then add more water if needed. Our volcano has gone to 2 of our schools as part of science days. I’d buy it again.

Fun activity for my niece to do

It leaked everywhere! There was no way one rubber band would hold the three pieces together without cracks. The mold spilled out as soon as we put it in. Waste of money!

This was a Christmas present and my son was so excited for it. I made sure to read all directions so that there weren’t any problems. I poured the plaster into the volcano mold and it immediately started to pour from the sides of the mold, even with the rubber band in place. I adjusted the band but it continued to pour from the sides. My husband and I had to physically hold the sides closed while the plaster dried. The volcano ended up being half the size it should’ve because the plaster was wasted. It was such a disappointment because our family was so excited and this was the only activity we had planned on for the family activity.

Easy to follow instructions and easy to use. Great for school projects. My 9 yr old was thrilled! Dries quick and can be done in one evening together. She had the best volcano project in her science class!

Fun for both my 4 and 6 year old. Patience was practiced as we had to wait 2 hours as the plaster baked in the oven, but luckily it didn't take long before the paint dried and we were able to try out our volcano experiments. Fun bubbly reactions!

Perfect amount of fun in the box for our 7 year old

The mold is so terrible,literally leaked all out the bottom sides I had to break some hangers with the clips so I could clip the mold shut. What a waste cause now it isn't even a full volcano

Was not thrilled with the quality of this. All items are cheap and flimsy, hard to put together for myself let alone a child

The mold does not stay together, even with the rubber band. I recommend using super glue to glue the molds together because when we poured the mixture in, it leaked right out of the sides of the mold. Not worth it.
