A: The side panels are wood/wood composite and the back panel is essentially rigid cardboard. The shelves are very nice and good quality. No complaints.

Q: Can these bookshelves be placed together so that the tops have no gap between the tops? The legs look slightly flared outwards, which might prevent that placement. Thanks.

Gorgeous bookcase, easy to assemble
I’ve put together a vast variety of furniture over the years and this was my favorite quality and the absolute best instructions. Each step had its own separate bag of screws/dowels etc which saved a lot of time and made the whole process less aggravating. We are thrilled with the result: a beautiful bookcase that doesn’t look cheap.

Disappointing quality
This is the 4th bookcase I have purchased thru the years. All the same except for color. They have gone down in quality. I had to use a plier to screw in the cam bolts as they were impossible to do by hand. Putting on the back the only holes that were drilled were two at the top and two at the bottom....I am making due with that because I didn't want to drill my own holes for the rest and split the wood. Kinda disapointed with it all. Took 90 min. to assemble. I need new thumbs now and am waiting for the blister.

Great shelf
Love this shelf. I bought 3 several years ago at a great price in store. I wanted to buy another 48" espresso but did realize these were online. They are sturdy and survived 3 moves.

Came with small damage to the side and a couple of the backer board screw were solid metal so I couldn’t use a screw driver or drill to install them. For my sons room so it does the job but wish some pieces were a little better quality

Color is way off
I bought one of these a couple years ago and needed another one and was thrilled when I saw Target still sold these. However, the color on line looks NOTHING like the picture. The Espresso color online looks like a warm cherry/walnut brown color, which would have matched, what was sent to me is pretty much black, sadly I have to return and now I don't know where I'm going to find one to match the one I have.

I just realized
I was looking at the three shelf bookcase wondering what it would look like, then I realized I have two of these sitting side by side in my den and 2 of the five shelf also in my den. I have had these since I bought this house 17 years ago, and they have been great. Mine are full of books and are very sturdy. I am probably going to buy another one but when I realized I had those 4, I thought I should give them a good review.
