Q: I'm a dinosaur--will I have to program the extender in some fashion to 'talk to' my modem? Everything I have internet-wise is via Bluetooth (not a direct cable). Thank you!

submitted by molly - 5 years ago
  • A: I'm sure its possible

submitted byRzR - 5 years ago
  • A: Hi, molly! Regarding your question about the TP-Link AC750 Wi-Fi Range Extender - Black (RE205): This does require a step to connect the extender to your existing wireless network. Luckily, this step is quite easy! Simply press the WPS button on this extender, then walk over to your router and press its WPS button and then your done! If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact MyTGTtech at 877-698-4883 every day, between 7am-11pm CST.

Q: Can this be used for rv’s to connect to campground WiFi

submitted by New camper - 8 days ago
  • A: Hi, thanks for reaching out about TP-Link AC750 Wi-Fi Range Extender - White (RE205). Yes, the TP-Link AC750 Wi-Fi Range Extender (RE205) can technically be used in an RV to connect to campground WiFi. If you have any additional questions, we welcome you to contact MyTGTtech at 833-848-8324 every day, between 7am-11pm CST.

  • A: It actually depends on several factors. If the campground uses a captive portal for authentication, then the answer is likely no. If it uses a traditional SSID and Password, then it may be possible, but several factors have to be considered, such as signal strength, AP/Router security, ACL settings, and the physical area you are putting the Extender.

Q: Do I need more than 1 Extender

submitted by Angelboriqua007 - 1 month ago
  • A: Hi Angelboriqua007, The number of Wi-Fi Extenders you need will depend on how many "Wi-Fi Dead Zones" you have in your home, the position of your router, and the overall layout of your home. We recommend starting with one Wi-Fi Extender and positioning it as optimally as possible before determining whether additional extenders are needed.

Q: Works with a public WiFi network?

submitted by Georgi - 2 months ago
  • A: Hi Georgi, TP-Link Wi-Fi Extenders are universally compatible with Wi-Fi Routers. Please keep in mind if the public Wi-Fi network uses a webpage-based login method (also known as a Captive Portal), the public network may present some restrictions on the extender's ability to connect.

  • A: Hi Georgi, thanks for reaching out about TP-Link AC750 Wi-Fi Range Extender - White (RE205). Yes, the TP-Link AC750 Wi-Fi Range Extender (RE200) can be used with public Wi-Fi networks. It can act as a hotspot or access point, allowing you to connect to a public network and share that connection with other devices. However, it's important to note that some public Wi-Fi networks require a login through a captive portal, which the extender might not be able to handle directly. Q: Does this work in hotels? Will it be able to connect via the hotel wifi authentication page?

submitted by Baseball2025 - 2 months ago
  • A: Hi Baseball2025, thanks for reaching out about the TP-Link AC750 Wi-Fi Range Extender - White Yes, a TP-Link AC750 Wi-Fi Range Extender (like the RE200 or RE220 models) can often work in hotels, but there's a crucial point to understand about hotel Wi-Fi networks: be prepared for a slightly more involved setup process due to hotel captive portals. If you have any additional questions, we welcome you to contact MyTGTtech at 833-848-8324 every day between 7 am and 11 pm CST.

  • A: Hi Baseball2025, TP-Link Wi-Fi Range Extenders are universally compatible with Wi-Fi routers. While it may work, obstacles may arise because the hotel uses Captive Portal authentication (a sign-in page). For best results in scenarios where captive portal authentication is used, we would generally suggest using one of our TP-Link Travel Router models.

This was the most frustrating experience. I ordered it online two hours ago and then I get to the store and said it was “processing” for two hours before they will even attend to the purchase. Then they don’t even have the product on hand and I had to wait 30 minutes to talk to someone. I will never buy something online from Target again. This was a terrible experience.

This is 20 year old tech in a convenient outlet-sized box. Between the gibberish description here, on the TP-Link website and the Ai snapshots and responses from every search engine I could find, there’s no good way to know what features this actually supports. So, here it is: This will extend your existing WiFi. It does not support captive portal within the admin interface, even though they say it does. You will not be able to secure this with a password or encryption, it ✨only✨ allows you to pass-through an existing WiFi connection with the existing security from your router, but you can name this extender whatever you would like. It claims to support AP, but that also does not work. Spend $10 on Amazon for a knock-off and you’ll be much happier, or drop more cash on something from another brand.

Hi M, Thank you for your review. The TP-Link RE205 Dual-Band Wi-Fi Range Extender is designed to provide quick, intuitive Wi-Fi extension for your home network. The RE205 does not support creating a network with Captive Portal Authentication; however, it can be used to extend various Wi-Fi networks and encryption types. It also has a dedicated Access Point Mode Feature, which can be conveniently configured using the TP-Link Tether app or a web browser. Our support team is always happy to help answer any questions you may have about our products. Please feel free to reach out using any of the resources included with the product, or from our official website, and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly. So what I don’t like is that you can only use this upright (recommendation by manufacturer) so if all of your outlets in your house are side by side like this you will not be able to use optimally!! Bummer :(
1 reply from TPLinkSupport team - 3 months ago
Plug in extenders have an antenna orientation designed to be placed in Standard outlets. This means outlets that allow them to be positioned on a vertical plane not a horizontal one. This does not mean that they can't be placed horizontally, only that doing so is not optimal.

I had moved my home office to another room where I couldn't hardline our ethernet and my connectionw as steadily getting worse especially when trying to do video meetings. I finally got this extender and have a very fast connection now. I will say I think after it showed it was connected, immediately after, it wasn't that fast. But by the time I ran soem errands and came back it was like high speed. So I'm guessing it takes it a few to really connect. FYI, it plugs next to your router while you do set up, then you move it half way between router and dead zone. So glad I found an affordable solution.

Not only does this extender not work at all but it causes more problems. It will connect to the extender automatically and it's like I have no internet at all. Very odd. When I have it on my regular connection it works better. I definitely do not recommend this and wish I would have spent a few more bucks to get something that actually works.

I brought this to extend my bandwidth in my house. I live in a 2 story townhouse and kept having connection issues with my Roku device upstairs. So, I brought this to see if this would correct the issue & it has. However, Im not sure if the connnection will work with mutiple devices, because when I connected both the Roku and my smart TV, the screaming Apps took a long time to load. However, once I connected just one device (Roku), it seems to work perfectly. Granted I was only able to get the 2.4ghz, but it seems to suffice for now! Hopefully I don't have to come back and make corrections/changes to my review. But, I think it works for the price!

Hi, Thank you for your review. Single Band and Dual Band Wi-Fi extenders utilize half-duplex transmission. As a result, throughput when connecting to the extender may be reduced when compared to the router. This is an industry standard for Wi-Fi extenders and is not exclusive to TP-Link. In your case, we recommend relocating the unit to a position in your home where the router's Wi-Fi signal is sufficiently strong; yet far enough from the router to effectively extend its range. We also suggest making sure you are connecting via the 5GHz band, and that the Extender's firmware is fully up to date, as outlined in FAQ 1409 on our official TP-Link website. If you'd like assistance with any of these steps, please reach out to our free support team using any of the resources included with the product, or from our official website, and we'll gladly have a Support Agent follow up with you directly. For me, I connected the TP link and tested the internet speed on my console for it. It only brought down my download speed. With the TP link it was bringing down my Wi-Fi's upload speed in general as well. After disconnecting the TP link I noticed my normal WI-FI upload and download speed was way higher than it was when it was on and connected. Did not work the best for me but it is good for the price of $30 but just didn't work for me personally.
