Q: Does anyone have problems/issues's with their Ubbi's really smelling when they have the lid open? Despite having an empty trash bag inside....? I know some smells can linger in many trash cans, but this seems to be different.

submitted by chellybear23 - 2 years ago
  • A: Yes, mine is currently VERY smelly and we've had it for 17 months now. Ive tried everything to make it not stink- deodorizers, bleach, letting it sit in the sun for hours- and nothing helps. This morning I walked into my sons room after him sleeping with the door shut for 11 hours and the whole room smelled of the diaper pail, and the lid was shut. Ive determined its just time to get rid of the pail sadly.

  • A: Hi there! The Ubbi diaper pail is made of steel and paired with rubber seals to create an airtight container that keeps all odors locked inside. Due to its contents the inside of the pail can smell and when the lids are opened, some odors may escape, but our promise is that the odors will not permeate through the steel into the room when the lids are closed. The Ubbi diaper pail does not require any special refills and can be used with any standard size kitchen trash bag which allows for more frequent bag changing. We do have a lavender-scented odor absorbing gel as well as our lavender-scented diaper sacks to individually wrap diapers to help keep the smell at bay.

Q: Is the door on the top of pail user friendly? I think I would miss the foot pedal in the midst of changing a fussy baby.

submitted by K - 3 years ago
  • A: Yes totally easy. Agree with the response above. We've had the foot petal and it stinks up the place after opening it.

submitted byMom of three - 3 years ago
  • A: Hi there! The sliding lid of the Ubbi diaper pail can easily be used with one hand while dealing with a squirming baby! The sliding lid is actually engaged with a magnet to further keep the container airtight, but just simply slightly push down on the handle and slide the lid back. To close the sliding lid, there is no need to push down on the handle because the magnet is already disengaged so just slide it back into the closed position. The reason that the Ubbi diaper pail was designed with a sliding lid rather than a foot pedal is because the sliding lid minimizes air disruption and is only large enough to quickly drop in a tightly rolled up diaper whereas pails with foot pedals maximize air disruption and can further waft odors into the air. Thanks!

Q: What kind of trash bags will fit this pail? Thanks.

submitted by Moniii - 5 years ago
  • A: The ubbi trash bag box says they are 13 gallon

submitted byLex - 5 years ago
  • A: No special bags are required for this diaper pail. You can use Ubbi bags, your standard kitchen trash bags, etc.

Q: Is the white Ubbi Steel Diaper Pail, a pure white color?

submitted by tianab - 2 years ago
  • A: Hi there. Thank you for your interest in the Ubbi diaper pail! The pail comes in a variety of colors to match any nursery! Our white pail’s body is made white with a powder coated paint directly on top of the steel. It’s accent parts are made from 100% recycled material so the two white’s may not be a perfect match, but overall, it is a bright white. Please do reach out with any other questions you may have. Thanks!

Q: Can this pail be used for adult sized incontinence products?

submitted by Susie Q - 3 years ago
  • A: Thank you for your interest in the Ubbi diaper pail! The Ubbi diaper pail’s opening was designed to be big enough to fit one tightly rolled up baby diaper of the largest size. Adult incontinence products can be quite bigger, which would need a larger opening generally. This is a common question and something we have considered and talked about in great length, but we have not pursued, at least not yet. Thank you for reaching out and if you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

Q: What is the ideal size of trash bag do you need? A 13Liter or which one?

submitted by Mommy - 3 years ago
  • A: Thanks so much for your inquiry about the Ubbi diaper pail! One of the primary benefits of the Ubbi diaper pail, besides the odor locking steel, is that no special bags, refills, or inserts are needed. While we do sell plastic bags, they are simply a plus and not a must! For a regular garbage bag, we recommend a 12 gallon, or 45 liter trash bag. The pail will hold as many as 55 newborn diapers, and we recommend changing the bag 2x a week, or more frequently, since no special bags are used. If you have any other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us at service@ubbiworld.com or call us at 718-422-0592 Monday through Friday, 9:30 am - 6:00 pm EST. Thanks again!

we've had our ubbi for almost 3 years. we originally put trash bags in it (as suggested) but as pee and poop became less frequent, we decided to use it for pee only and without trash bags (save the planet right?). it did start to get kinda pee-smellin so I washed it, tipped it over and let it air dry in the south carolina summer. it got a bit rusty on the metal inside but whatever! it holds fecal matter.

Obviously smells horrible when opened up and it lingers in the room. No point in buying. Only positive is it uses normal trash bags.

I had been using a regular trash can with a lid for my son's diapers and thought it was just fine. Until the smell finally got to me. After buying this, his room no longer smells like he constantly has a dirty diaper. It is easy to use and keeps the smells totally contained. Worth every penny!

Have had for less then 2 months and literally smells up the entire room when you open put a dirty diaper in. We use the Ubbi bags and change it very regularly so I don’t feel it should have this insanely strong odor already. Very disappointed.

I understand that poopy diaper smells will escape when any diaper pail is opened. I have a 2 year old so I’ve been using diapers long enough to not have some magical expectations but holy mother of jeebus the Ubbi stinks up the whole room when opened for literally less than a “1 Mississippi” to throw a diaper in. I bought it thinking it would replace the one (a different brand) we have been using but that bad boy got brought back from retirement within a couple days. Their claim that it won’t stink up your room when they door is closed seems to be true, you’d never guess what is behind that slide when it’s closed, but after opening it for even the shortest amount of time you have to air out the whole room before you have the opportunity to forget what’s going on in there. Diapers from the same child, no more poopy or strange than ever before, suddenly smell like he pooped dead animals. I honestly don’t know how it smells so much worse but it does.

Hinge broke after 6 months. It has a 3 year warranty, but don't believe it. Company rarely responds finally told me it would replace it but never happened. Gave me a code that didn't work supposed to get a free replacement but it was a fraud. Do not purchase! They are dishonest! It's a piece of garbage!

We purchased this can in 2019 and don’t plan on repurchasing for baby number two. I also likes the idea of an all steel can. But as others have stated the execution is not great. You’d have to take out diapers every day for there to be no odor. The lid part traps moisture and causes mold on the inside of the lid especially on the rubber gasket. You have to take the lid apart (screws and all) to fully clean it and probably at least once a week to avoid mold. Likes the idea and the fact you don’t have to buy special bags but with the other meticulous flaws it wasn’t worth it.

I finally found a diaper pail that not only makes me feel fancy, but also traps all of the odor from the smelly diapers! And the best part of it all is you can use any 13 gallon trash bag! It’s a huge money saver! I loooooove this diaper pail! It’s so shiny and easy to clean! It is kinda hard to open and close but it is a great diaper pail!

The lid broke off after 3 months into using it & the reviews are right, the stench is horrendous. Finally I told my husband to toss it since we both could not stand the smell any longer! After every bag change the entire room would stink up and it became so difficult to remove the bags that my husband would be the only one that could do it. Terrible experience with this product.

Only diaper pail we’ve tried, but, I love it so far! We’ve used it for 2 months. I love that you can use regular garbage bags. Of course it stinks when you’re changing it. But I try to empty before the bag is completely full.

We were very excited to try this pail and loved the “all-steel” design for its durability. The inside piece where the bag sits over snapped off in the first week of use. Target was kind enough to replace the pail for us, but now after 3 months of use the lid is breaking. Unfortunately all of the parts that are actually essential to the function/mechanism of the can are made of plastic that doesn’t hold up to steady, regular use. I honestly think it’s a brilliant design and I love that it doesn’t require specific and expensive bags, but overall I’m disappointed in the quality.
