Description
The Whynter Portable Air Conditioner with dual hose delivers a cooling output of 12000 BTU's that is perfect for a 300-500 sq. ft.. It has 3 cooling speeds and 3 fan speeds for customized air conditioning. Its dual hose operation allows rapid cooling across the room. In the dehumidification mode, it keeps moisture levels under check. The air conditioner has a digital, temperature control for convenient and accurate operation. With self-evaporating technology, it recycles water condensation back into the air. It also comes with a carbon air filter and washable pre-filter. The auto-restart function automatically switches the air conditioner on after a power outage. This air conditioner has a programmable timer that turns it on and off after a pre-defined time. Its extended window exhaust kit and wheels let you set up the unit where you want. It requires 2 batteries (included). Q: In the description it says the unit requires batteries. This must be only for the remote right? How effective is the self evaporative system? Is it more likely that the unit will not need to be drained?

A: The remote is hat batteries are needed for. <br><br> The air conditioner uses the patented auto drain or self-evaporative technology which exhausts condensation automatically in most environments. Please note that if the humidity is very high, the auto drain function will still exhaust the majority of the moisture. The remaining moisture will be collected in the water tank at the base of the air conditioner and continue to self-evaporate until the tank becomes full and requires manual drainage.<br><br> If continuous drainage is necessary, a hose can be installed to the upper drain port for continuous gravity drainage. Yes, I would have traded my in unit CHU (compartmentalized housing unit) AC in Iraq for this in a heartbeat. I've owned it for 3 years to supplement a rooms AC that I have found tricky to balance properly. It works as advertised, is durable, and well made. Yes, it takes time to set up if it's not a permanent solution. And yes, there the drainage can leak if you don't secure the drain hose securely. But that's the concept of portability. It's heavy though but has some wheels. Use a hand truck if you need to go long distances. If you have an electric socket or extension cord to plug into, this will work anywhere and everywhere.

Does the job of keeping the area I bought it for cool. I am disappointed that it doesn't have a eco mode. So it just keeps running even when the room's set temperature is met. Also the vents that go in the window have nothing to prevent insects from getting in it. Which here is the south is a major issue.

The air conditioner has a 5° F temperature cushion; when reaching 5° F of the set temperature, the compressor shuts off but the fan runs continuously to circulate the air in the room to maintain the set temperature and prevent the compressor from running too frequently. Unless you have a big space or are a business, I don’t know if this is an appropriate sized unit for domestic use. That being said, if you read tge dimensions and it’s all right with you, go for it!

I like Whynter products in general but feel ripped off with this model. 1. No adjustable air vents 2. Air vents do not electronically close or move 3. The timer is hard to use 4. In general, the digital display is not user friendly This machine really sucks

I have had this air conditioner for a few years. I bought it because it was recommended by Consumer Reports due to its double hose intake and exhaust feature. I am so glad I did. It cools the whole downstairs of my home. Is continually cooling with so far no condensation.

This item works very well it cooled my bedroom night & day no matter how hot it was outside.I live in the deep south of Mississippi & it can get really really hot. The only problem I had with this item was the draining system. Condensate water would build up quick.what I found helpful was elevating the unit,adding a hose used on a washing machine & placing the hose in a 5 gallon jug & it worked great after that.

I use this in vermont for the 600SF living area, third floor of a 4 floor building, unit works fine, its not too loud, but does not seam to have to cooling power of a 1200BTU window unit, go 14000BTU and this dual hose is key. Crazy how the single hose units suck out the cool air while pulling hot air from the outside in.

Excellent cold, excellent heat, plus dehumidifier and fan-only for drying clothes. The dual vent ducts are large, but good quality, not flimsy. They are essential, so plan ahead. Read manual (which could be better). Heat/cool power is impressive, our unit is in (small) room, only runs briefly before desired temp is reached. Draws about 9 amps at 125 volts, max.

I have a raised ranch. I keep this in my smallest bedroom, my office, facing out into the hallway. It cools that whole side of the house. I have another larger Wynther model in my dining room facing the kitchen and it cools that whole half of the house too. I chose Wynther cause it doesn't have to be drained all the time when using it on air. It does a very good job and it is a nice size nd color.

We put this in our large living room area that is open to hallways and then the dining room/kitchen. The Living room stayed nice and sometimes was so cool I grabbed a blanket lol The other areas while not really cooled off were cooler then before we got this unit. Glad I purchased this!

The front of our house gets afternoon sun in Calabasas, CA where the summer heat tops 100°. The internal AC of our house just doesn't pump enough cool air into our toddler's room upstairs so we purchased this Whynter 12000 BTU portable AC unit. I chose to buy this unit because the reviews on Whynter seemed better than others regarding cooling, durability and noise level. The installation was easy and the product definitely cooled the room to a comfortable level quickly. One of my concerns was the noise level would be too loud and scare our boy but (while it is not exactly quiet) the AC is not as loud as I expected and creates a "white noise" effect that is slightly louder than the noise machine we use in his room anyway. Needless to say, we are all-around happy with the AC unit so far. It's nice that the unit also has wheels and can be rolled into other rooms as needed. In fact, I chose to buy another Whynter Unit (14000 BTU) for my office, which is also on the same side of the house. That unit has more power and is slightly quieter! It's also slightly more expensive, but I am very happy with both AC units from Whynter. :)
